l'amministrazione, la scienza e le filosofie ellenistiche, filiazioni originali di quelle
classiche, proietteranno la loro influenza dominante su quelle romane e,
attraverso il mondo romano, si imporranno a tutto l'Occidente e verranno
trasmesse ai secoli successivi. Il riflesso storico dell'ellenismo, in una dialettica
di continuit / rottura rispetto al mondo persiano, stato di grande respiro in
ogni settore della civilt umana e in primo luogo a Roma, che se ne dimostra

erede, nello stesso tempo, fedele e creativa. Gli stessi re ellenistici
apprezzarono Roma. Filippo V, nel bel mezzo della guerra contro i Romani, ci
lascia un documento epigrafico in cui addita a modello politico i nemici. Le
economie ellenistiche, che preludono all'economia-mondo di Roma, sonoeconomie complesse, monetizzate e globali. Su di un piano pi generale non
forse azzardato sostenere che il progetto di sincretismo di culture diverse che fu
l'orizzonte di Alessandro Magno si realizza, almeno parzialmente, solo con
l'Impero romano, anche se, come sostiene P. Lvque, dal Bou Regreg al
Gange, dall'Elba al Nilo azzurro, il solo fattore capace di unificare in certa
misura un mondo dalla cangiante diversit, la diffusione dell'ellenismo.
