THIS SHABBAT @ THE BAYIT SHABBAT MORNING EVACUATION DRILL
We will be holding a shul-wide drill in order to prepare for the unlikely event that we need
to evacuate the building. The drill will be led by our Community Security Service (CSS)
team. A few important points to keep in mind:
When we evacuate, we walk to the corner of Johnson Ave. and Henry Hudson
Parkway and gather there. In a live emergency we will want to clear the area around
the building for first responders.
There are 2 gates from the playground to the Mikvah driveway. If you are exiting down
the stairs from the terrace and Main Sanctuary, that is now your fastest route to safety.
CSS is working with the Youth Leaders and children in groups to prepare. During a
drill or any emergency situation please do not attempt to go up to the third floor to
get your children. They will be brought to you at our rally point.
Please make sure that your children and/or Shabbat guests are aware that we are
planning the drill. The goal is to practice and learn - not to frighten or surprise anyone.
Parshat Ha’Azinu Derasha: Views From the Pews - We will hear reflections on the
idea of “Torah as Shirah (Song/Poem)” from Bayit community members Mia Padwa, Pinny
Bulman and Liz Shayne.

CLIMATE CORNER A new coalition of Jewish groups in New York City, called
the Jewish Climate Alliance, formed just days before the
highly successful Climate Strike. More than 30 organizations
have joined the Jewish Climate Alliance, including UJA-
Federation New York, Yeshivat Chovevei Torah (YCT), and
many Manhattan synagogues. The Alliance will allow a strong
Jewish voice to be heard as we develop coping and mitigation
strategies for the climate crisis and pursue climate justice for
all. One of our own Green Team members spoke the
following words at the Interfaith Service that took place
before the Climate Strike March in Manhattan: “It is said that
Hashem created the world and destroyed it many times.
Then Hashem created this world and said to Adam, ‘This is
the last world I will ever create. Take care of it.”
Participate in the Jewish Earth Alliance national climate advocacy
coalition. Receive monthly action alerts and participate in writing
letters to be hand-delivered to your Members of Congress. For
