Jack Jeffrey:

Big Island photographer Jack Jeffrey is intimately familiar with Hawai’i’s hidden valleys, remote rainforests and rare birds. He brings to his images more than 35 years of observation and study of Hawai’i’s endemic birds. As a wildlife biologist, he combines a naturalist’s curiosity, a photographer’s patience and the technical skill to produce beautiful images. Jack is the recipient of the prestigious National Sierra Club Ansel Adams Award for Conservation Photography, Hawai’i Audubon Society Conservationist of the Year Award, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Endangered Species Recovery Champion Award and The Nature Conservancy of Hawai’i Kako’o Aina Award. Jack is co-author of two books, “Hawai’i’s Beautiful Birds,” and “The Pocket Guide to Hawai’i’s Birds.” His photography been featured in numerous local, national and international magazines, as well as books and calendars.

Jim Denny:

Jim Denny grew up in the bayous and hardwood forests of rural Louisiana, and there he fell in love with the outdoors. For the last 40 years he has lived in Kekaha, a small, peaceful town on the leeward coast of Kaua‘i. He is the author of two books, “The Birds of Kaua‘i” and “Hawai‘i’s Butterflies and Moths.” He has also produced two videos: “Hawai‘i’s Birds” and “Birds of the Rainforest.” His photographs have appeared in textbooks, conservation literature, and popular magazines including Audubon, Smithsonian, and National Geographic. Jim’s work has been exhibited at the Bishop Museum in Honolulu and at the Koke‘e Natural History Museum on Kaua‘i. In 1994, the Hui O Laka honored him as the volunteer of the year for his work in educating the public about Hawai‘i’s precious endemic birds. Of photographing birds in Hawai‘i, he says, “Birds lift the human spirit like no other animal. With the way they move so freely from place to place, their beautiful songs, and their endless variety of colors and shapes, one wonders why more people aren’t tempted to photograph them.”
