The Barry Community Foundation partners with organizations and supports programs that uphold this premise.Advancing the common good means creating opportunities for a better life for all. Barry County United Way is committed to improving conditions by focusing on these three building blocks.

Together the Barry Community Foundation and Barry County United Way create Waves of Change throughout our community. Whether joining forces to assist families facing rental eviction, helping families that are dealing with utility shut off notices or making sure that programs that support our missions continue throughout our community, together we all make the difference. In celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Barry County United Way, the family of Florence Tyden Groos, one of the founders of the United Fund, created an administrative endowment under the Barry Community Foundation umbrella to enable all of the contributions made to United Way to address programs and services of their partner agencies. The Barry County United Way is one of the very few United Ways in the nation that can truly say that 100% of all contributions go to fund programs in our community. Their goal is to create long-lasting changes by addressing the underlying causes of problems. When you reach out a hand to one, you

to support this vision for the future of Barry County. Together, we can accomplish more than any single group can on its own. Please join United Way at their kick-off on September 11, 2014 at the Barry County Expo Center. Then participate in the annual Day of Caring, please call Morgan Johnson at 269-945-4010 to locate a project.

Ieducation matters networkThe Education Element asserts that a healthy community opens itself to new ideas and provides high quality education and life-long learning for all members of the community. On July 31, 2013, the Barry Community Foundation hosted the Education Matters Community Meeting. The gathering brought together representatives from all segments of the community and presented multiple perspectives on education; from state and national foundations to local resources. The meeting culminated in a visioning session to articulate the future state of education in Barry County as envisioned by the community representatives in attendance. The Education Matters Network is a vehicle that will drive the fundamental and systemic community change that must occur to achieve this vision.

fund highlight: barry community Free clinic

The Barry Community Free Clinic opened in January 2009 to provide medical and dental care to uninsured and low income people of Barry County. Their mission has been clear: to provide 100% free care, to maintain a fully volunteer clinic staff and to move people into stable “medical homes” whenever possible. The clinic has recently made some changes and adaptations as a result of the changing healthcare climate. Beginning this month the clinic will only provide dental care. They have also partnered with the Barry Community Foundation and the United

with co-pays and deductibles for patients who qualify. This partnership is consistent with the Free Clinic’s core mission to eliminate barriers to care, and is an ongoing commitment into the future.
