ituated on the north eastern corner of South America, the only English speaking country on the continent, S bordered by Brazil, Venezuela and Suriname, Guyana is blessed with an over abundance of natural resources - gold, diamonds, bauxite, manganese, rice, sugar and rare metals. Some 80% of Guyana’s landmass is blanketed

by tropical rainforest, most of it still pristine. Hundreds of the 6,500 species of plants so far identified in the rainforest are used for food, medicine and other purposes. Many of the orchids, heliconias and flowering trees so sought after in faraway places flourish in profusion. Kaieteur, one of the largest most powerful waterfalls in the world, cascades into a gorge that is resplendent with the rare harpy eagles soaring high above the forest canopy, under which dwell scarlet macaws, parrots and birds of every description, rare monkeys and frogs, river otters, tapir, peccary, capybara, deer, sloths and jaguars. It is the kingdom of nature.

Yet our greatest wealth lies in our people and our diverse cultures. Our first peoples inhabit the hinterland of the country, while the coast is inhabited by people of African, Indian, Chinese, Portuguese and European descent, brought to the shores of South America under British and European colonial rule.

Since the anti colonial struggles of the 1950's, politics characterized by ethnic division emerged. Since independence in 1966 a long season of turbulent politics has persisted to the present day leaving in its wake serious economic, cultural and social challenges. Poverty with all of its social and psychological dislocations is inhibiting the development of the country and condemning whole generations to a bleak future. An epidemic of domestic abuse, alarming suicide rates, illiteracy, outward migration, hoplessness among the youth are just some of the ills that stalk the idyllic landscape of Guyana.

he Guyana Foundation has been created by a group of highly committed men and women who see an urgent T need to contribute meaningfully to the development of the people of this beautiful country. The Foundation's work reaches across political and ethnic boundaries to bring relief wherever it is needed.

The Guyana Foundation is a nonprofit organization free from partisan political allegiance whose membership is open to people everywhere who share the view that in an increasingly interdependent world we have the opportunity and the duty to reach across physical geographic boundaries to bring relief wherever it is needed.

The Guyana Foundation is driven by the conviction that great change can be made by people themselves if they are encouraged, supported and have their human dignity acknowledged and respected.

Our doors are open to individuals everywhere, groups, foundations, and international organizations that wish to assist us in our endeavour to contribute to the achievement of an economically vibrant ,socially just, peaceful multicultural Guyana, living out its motto of "One People, One Nation, One Destiny".

YouthTo promote youth development through training programs across Guyana to equip youth with skills that could provide supplemental income for themselves and their families as well as provide opportunities for their general advancement.

The Foundation will offer programs and workshops teaching leadership skills, video production, photography, dance instruction, fashion design,

sports training, event planning and more...

We encourage skilled professionals from around the world to experience the joy of giving of their time and talent with well deserving young people.

Women's Empowerment Program To offer capacity building training courses to assist in the establishment of viable cottage industries and programs across Guyana.

To share marketing ideas for these products and to seek overseas markets for specific items. Our website offers a sample of the beautiful creations from Guyana.

Community RenewalThe Guyana Foundation encourages communities to organize themselves into groups to manage common problems in their respective neighborhoods. Projects such as controlling litter and garbage disposal, providing clean drinking water for school children, improving sanitary facilities for school children. Strengthening footbridges over canals.

The Guyana Foundation teaches them the basic principles of money and project management. Donations are given directly to the community groups and monitored by our headquarters in Georgetown. Regular site visits and reports are prepared on each project.

We encourage donors to visit these communities to see the difference their contribution makes to the lives of many.
