General Information of Vidhansabha
In 1918, Bhavsinhji Gohil, ruler of Bhavnagar State, established The Peoples' Representative
Assembly consisting of 38 members appointed by him. His succeeding son, Krishna Kumar
Sinhji, formed the Bhavnagar legislative assembly in 1941 having 55 members, consisting
of 33 elected members, 16 nominated members by him and 6 ex-officio members. On 1st
May 1960, the Bombay state was bifurcated into Gujarat and Maharashtra states resulted in
formation of Gujarat legislative assembly.
DEMOCRACY:-“of the people, for the people, by the people.”
After formation of Gujarat state in 1960, Ahmadabad was a capital of the state. Assembly
started functioning from the present day OPD building of Ahmadabad Civil Hospital. New
capital city, Gandhinagar was built in 1971. Later assembly was shifted to Central Library
building, sector-17, Gandhinagar on 11th February 1971. President Neelam Sanjiva
Reddy laid foundation stone of new assembly building, Vithalbhai Patel Bhavan on 20
March 1978. It was designed by H. K. Mewada, chief planner of Gandhinagar. The
construction was completed in 1982 and it was named after Vithalbhai Patel, the first
Indian speaker of Central. It was inaugurated by Governor Sharda Mukherjee on 8th July
1982. Since then the Gujarat legislative assembly works here.

Purpose of Visit:
India is a democratic country. So, all citizens should be familiar with the way democratic
institutions work. As the students are the future generation of our country, so they should
mainly be aware of the democracy.
Indian youth is running away from the working of Government, which mainly includes
unawareness of the assembly’s procedure. This unawareness is caused by the inefficient
data available in the textbooks at school level. Sensing this shortcoming in the student
community, GTU has coordinated with the Education Department, Government of Gujarat
to allow GTU students and Faculty Members to visit the live sessions of Gujarat
Vidhansabha and to have interaction with the Minister of Education in person.

Visit Description:
The total 69 Nos. of visitors including students and faculties of this institute reached to New

systematically and on-duty officers guided us about how to reach Vidhansabha Gruh
cordially. Security checking was very strict as it is the Heart of Gujarat. After dividing in
various groups by security officers we were allowed to enter the Vidhansabha Gruh and
advised to follow the norms of Vidhansabha Gruh.
In live session, we observed the members of legislative discussed the work and different
schemes prepared by Government of Gujarat. We also became a witness of discussion
between ruling party and opposition party on the current issues. After hearing the live
session, we all gathered at the ground floor where students learnt about the contributions
of former chief ministers by reading the monograph. Students and faculties were made
aware about different schemes which are beneficial to our citizens and students.
Students and faculty members have interacted with Smt. Aanandiben Patel, Honorable

aware of the legislative activities and it was pleasure to spend time at
the”HEART OF GUJARAT”

A House of Assembly is one of the places where tradition is the keyword:
everything is perfectly in balance between new and ancient, and
it's flabbergasted to explore the working of the legislator office. It was great
to see the functioning of assembly with the students.

I realized that the mission “Swacha Bharat” and “Digital India” is not only

gives the REAL EYES to realize how the work is done in assembly.
It was an opportunity for us to have knowledge with enjoyment. A real
experience “Learn with Fun”
It was a great excitement for us to meet the Honorable Chief Minister

Hard efforts of political leaders have been observed to achieve the top
level of Gujarat in India.
I realized practical knowledge of democracy which had been learnt in the
theory at school level.
It was a great excitement for us to meet the Honorable Chief Minister Mrs.
Aanandiben Patel.
It was an outstanding experience for students & faculties to become a
