also want some cultural experiences and enjoyment on their holidays.
What is activo?
Our activo tours developed originally as an addendum to our classical tour programmes. The product is designed for those travellers who want to experience their holiday in a different, more active way, wishing to experience Italy close up as you can only do when travelling under your own steam.
You can discover and enjoy the real delights of Italy and her neighbouring countries on our activo packages. Enjoy this easy-paced tourism, far away from the travelling hordes, either on foot or on two wheels.
There is no better way to get to know the quaint corners of the country at first hand than on an activo break. You can appreciate the local cuisine and take in the unique atmosphere and ambiance of the contrasting towns and villages at your own speed.
Who is activo suitable for?
Activo is a product designed for those seeking a holiday full of diversity and is suitable for all ages. These are trips where you can discover new routes away from the crowds of the tourist hotspots. We produce an experience which combines a positive sense of wellbeing through movement with the enjoyment of discovering regional cuisine, attractive landscapes and cultural sights in one tour.
So how does it work?
Your guests will head out each day to discover the true beauty of their chosen destination be this on foot or on a bike. The trips are suitable for everyone and everyone can take part! Our tours are led by experienced hiking or biking guides. For those who prefer less effort on two wheels our E-Bike-holidays provide the hire and transportation of these energy saving e-bikes on the various excursions.
What benefit does activo offer your business?
Our activo product enables you to target new segments of the market which may otherwise have been closed to you. The active programmes can be offered to clubs, societies or corporations who are looking for an interesting group activity for their members and employees.

Our E-Bike Tours
The emphasis on our cycling trips is firmly placed on experiences, relaxation and enjoyment, and the tours are designed to be a mixture of visits and movement in the great outdoors. The programmes are designed for anyone who enjoys riding a bike and no special training is required by way of preparation. The majority of our tours take place either on dedicated cycle tracks, well prepared gravel paths or minor B roads with little traffic. Only in rare circumstances would we ever need to use busier routes. The bicycles that we hire are appropriate for the excursions envisaged.
Day hikes
Hiking between excursion points brings you closer to nature than pretty much any other type of travel and gives you an incredible insight into the regions and their people. The chosen hiking paths are usually very well maintained and are often also used by the locals. They are set away from roads and thus enable you to experience the broad range and beauty of the fauna and flora. Our day hikes last between 2 and 5 hours. In order to help you make informed choices, we provide details relating to the relative intensity of each one.
Vertical height difference
We also indicate on each hike the vertical height difference that you will need to negotiate. The figure shown indicates the difference in height between the highest and lowest point on the hike. Where the difference is less than 50 m, we indicate this as negligible.
What happens if it rains?
In case of bad weather your hiking guide will amend the programme accordingly. If the rainfall is particularly intense it may be decided to shelve that day completely and plan in different routes or activities. We always prepare for such eventualities and offer interesting alternatives in this case.
What to wear
We recommend sturdy hiking boots which cover the ankles with good rubber soles and comfortable practical clothing. We suggest dressing in layers in order to add or remove them according to the conditions. Consider also both rain and sun protection. On our bike tours, whilst we do recommend the use of appropriate cycling trousers and gloves, this is not essential, however for insurance reasons we must insist that all participants wear a helmet. Our bike hire does not include panniers, helmets or any other pieces of equipment. They are available on request. We do recommend that hikers and bikers take a hearty breakfast each day and that they take adequate supplies of water with them. A small day pack is therefore an excellent idea.
Our hike and bike guides
Our hike and bike guides are known for their technical competence, sense of responsibility and their knowledge of the area. Our local partners are reliable and experienced people who are always on hand for you. They look forward to showing you the beauty of their areas. They possess excellent knowledge of the routes and will provide you with interesting information about the places you will encounter during the excursion.
Coach trips and cycle transportation
Where the itinerary demands it, you can expect to spend some time on a coach to reach the departure point. The longest transfers usually take up to 1 hour.Should you arrive by air or rail, we will provide a local coach to facilitate the excursions selected as required. In the case of bike or E-bike trips we look after the hire and transportation of the E-bikes for the specific tour, the cost of this being included in the tour price.
Hotel provision and board basis
Each of our tours has either 3* or 4* hotel accommodation included as standard. Extended breakfast and good quality and filling evening meals are of course also included. Each of our tours will offer you then chance to incorporate either lunch in a restaurant, a picnic lunch or a snack en route. These breaks are an integral part of the tour and allow you not only to rest and recover, but also get a real insight into the local cuisine which is often deeply rooted in the farming culture.
SymbolsAlongside the descriptions of the daily itineraries you will find some symbols which will indicate if the tour is concepted by bike or on foot. On some days no coach travel at all will be needed as shown by the appropriate symbol.
No coach required

Cycling excursions The average tour length is around 40km with gentle gradients. The degree of difficulty is described as easy.
The average tour length is around 50km and some more challenging gradients. The degree of difficulty is described as moderate.
The average tour length is in excess of 60km and includes some quite steep inclines to negotiate. The degree of difficulty is described as demanding.
Please bear in mind that tours which may be described as easy or moderate on an e-bike could be classed as demanding on a standard bike.

The hiking component is moderate. The average time spent walking is up to 4 hours, with some steeper sections.

All our prices show two separate rates. This symbol indicates that all ground transport, city permits & parking fees are included in the fare (according to the scheduled program).
The clever combination
Michelangelo‘s DUO programme allows you to tap into the trend of creating more individual offers. Fill your coaches by combining multiple smaller interest groups with their individual excursion requirements on the same tour.
You can offer your guests innovative tour options and you gain by filling your seats!Satisfy both the needs of your clients and of your company with Michelangelo’s DUO concept!
What is DUO exactly?
This is a product which allows you to combine two individual programmes (ACTIVO and CLASSICO) on the one coach, so that you can use your tour to one area to appeal to different market segments. You have the opportunity to sell trips with a lower minimum number requirement, thereby maximising the chance to fill your vehicle and bringing groups to fruition. Our programme allows one coach tour to operate two separate programmes seamlessly.
How does DUO work?
Each group undertakes its daily programme (ACTIVO or CLASSICO) of visits and activities.
It is often the case that ACTIVO hike or bike groups don’t require the coach as they can set off directly from the hotel. If both groups need the coach then the programme is constructed in such a way as to allow both elements to be operated simultaneously with coordinated start and end points or meet up times.A CLASSICO coach tour party will have its tour manager and the hike or bike party will equally have their own guide who will ensure that they are both working in tandem.
We have lots of experience of creating such tours, so please send us the details of your particular enquiry and let us do the rest!

Parma takes over the title from Italy’s 2018 Capital of Culture, Palermo, and the 2019 European Capital of Culture, Matera. It was at the centre of several wars during the 14th and 15th centuries and the French held the city for many years in the early 16th century. It then became part of the Papal States, only to be detached from them in 1545 by Pope Paul III, who gave it to his illegitimate son; his descendants then ruled it for almost two hundred years.During the Napoleonic Wars in the early 19th century, Parma was annexed to France, while prior to and during World War II, it was a hub of partisan resistance to fascists.Parma ham and Parmesan cheese have made the city a household name all over the world. But they're far from its only exports: Emilia-Romagna, where Parma lies, produces more origin-protected food and drink than any other region in Italy. In the plains around Parma you'll find some of Italy's finest artisans making some of its tastiest prosciutto, salami, cheese and porcini mushrooms – all of which can be sampled in abundance in the city itself.
