N GENERAL NOTES
To get the best from your appliance plea-se read these instructions carefully.
SEALED HEATING SYSTEMS
This appliance is fitted to a sealed hea-ting system which is pre-pressurised.Your installer will advise you of the mini-mum and maximum pressure whichshould be indicated on the pressuregauge.
Check regularly that the pressure ismaintained and contact your installer ormaintenance engineer if a permanentsignificant drop in pressure is indicatedon the pressure gauge. If the systemloses pressure it should be re-pressuri-sed and the cause of the fall investiga-ted.
CENTRAL HEATING SYSTEMS
During the first few hours of operation ofthe central heating system, check that allradiators are being heated at an evenrate. If the top of a radiator is at a lowertemperature than the bottom then itshould be vented by releasing airthrough the venting screw at the top ofthe radiator. Ask your installer to showyou how this is done.
This boiler is fitted to a sealed system;repeated venting will reduce the quantityof water in the system and this must be

replenished for safe and satisfactoryoperation of the appliance.
Should water leaks be found in thesystem or if excessive venting is requi-red, then a service engineer must becontacted to inspect the installation andrectify any fault.
Only additives that are compatible withaluminium may be used in the system.Any incompatible additive used will inva-lidate the guarantee.
CONDENSATE DRAIN
This is a condensing appliance and theterminal will, at times give out a plume ofwater vapour. This is quite normal.
The appliance also produces quantitiesof condensate which is discharged regu-larly by a siphon within the boiler via apipe to drain. This pipe must not beblocked or altered in any way.
CLEARANCES - VENTILATEDCOMPARTMENT
Your installer will have provided adequa-te space around the appliance for safetyand servicing access. Do not restrict thisspace with the addition of cupboards, shelves etc. next to the appliance.

The diagrams (A and B) opposite showtwo options for the minimum spacerequired to install and service the boilerinside an unventilated compartment.
* This space can be reduced to 50 mmfor one side only as long as both theside clearances add up to the total ofboth the side measurements shown ormore.
** Space required for unventilated areaswith a removable door or panel.
*** 600 mm clearance required to a fixedsurface for servicing.
ROOM THERMOSTAT
A room temperature controller and pro-grammer should be fitted to control thecentral heating. Refer to the instructionssupplied with the thermostat for informa-tion on siting and setting.
THERMOSTATIC RADIATOR VALVES
It is recommended that this type of valveis fitted to all but one of the radiators (orat least those in the sleeping accommo-dation). The remaining radiator, whichmust be where the room thermostat islocated, should be uncontrolled andmust be left open. The thermostaticradiator valves should conform to therequirements of BS2767:10.

VENTILATION
This is a room sealed appliance anddoes not require any air for combustionfrom inside the property. If the applianceis fitted into a cupboard or a compart-ment is built around the appliance afterinstallation, then the compartment mustbe separated from the boiler space by aperforated non-combustible partition asdescribed in BS 6798.
Notwithstanding the requirements of BS6798 and BS 5440 there is no need forventilation openings to be provided inthe compartment because of the lowheat loss from the appliance casing, ifthe clearances shown are maintained.
Do not operate the appliance if the flueterminal fitted on the outside wall or roofis obstructed or damaged.
PUMP ANTI-SEIZURE
If there has been no heating demand for24 hours the boiler will run the systempump for a few seconds to reduce thepossibility of pump seizure during longperiods of inactivity, which is usuallymore frequent during the summermonths.

16 TIPS ON ENERGY
SAVING
Heating economically
The boiler is designed to provide a highlevel of comfort while keeping gas con-sumption and the resulting environmen-tal effect as low as possible. The gassupply to the burner is controlled accor-ding to the level of demand for heat. The boiler continues to operate with alow flame if the demand for heat redu-ces. The technical term for this processis modulating control. Modulating con-trol reduces temperature fluctuationsand provides even distribution of heatthroughout the home. This means thatthe boiler may stay on for relatively longperiods but will use less gas than anappliance that continually switches onand off.
TIPS ON ENERGY SAVING
Central heating systems with roomthermostats/thermostatic radiatorvalves
The central heating control on the boilershould be set to the maximum rated tem-perature of the central heating system.
The temperature of each room can beset individually (except primary room withthe room thermostat) using the thermo-static radiator valves.
Roof insulation
Around 30% of the heat loss from a pro-perty is through the roof. Replace anyold insulation with new insulation, prefe-rably of around 200 mm thickness ormore.
Window frames
Single glazed windows, particularlythose with steel frames, can lose a greatdeal of heat. Consideration should begiven to replacement with PVCu or woo-den framed double glazed units.
Curtains
Lined curtains, or heavier full length cur-tains can provide excellent insulation. However, always ensure that the curtainsdo not drape over radiators.

17TIPS ON ENERGY
SAVING
Draughts
Try to ensure that draughts arounddoors, windows, letterboxes and keyho-les etc. are reduced by using a suitabledraught excluder. Warning - Do not blockor seal any air vents that are installed toensure the central heating boiler opera-tes safely.
Room thermostats
Reducing the setting of the room ther-mostat by 1 °C can reduce fuel con-sumption by up to 10%.
New control systems
Upgrade your heating control system ifnecessary with the latest equipmentavailable. The minimum level of control isa programmer, interlocking room thermo-stat and thermostatic radiator valves.
Radiators
More often than not radiators will besited underneath a window, so the warmair from the radiator heats the colderincoming air from the window. The per-formance of the radiator will be affectedif the curtains are allowed to drape overthe radiator or shelves are fitted above it.The positioning of furniture and tables infront of the radiator should also be avoi-ded.
It is advisable to manually adjust allradiator thermostatic valves every 2-3months to prevent them sticking. It isalso important that the plastic tops of allvalves are always in position and notcracked or damaged to prevent acci-dents. Care should be taken when vacu-um cleaning carpets to avoid damage tovalves and pipework.
The heating system and the outputs ofthe radiators have been carefully selec-ted by your installer. The temperatureobtainable in any given room is depen-dent on all radiators being operated atthe same time. If you decide to turn offradiators in unused rooms, sparebedrooms etc., you may experienceslightly lower room temperatures inrooms adjacent to unheated rooms.
