GLOBAL WARMING

What is Global Warming?
Warming of Earth’s Climate due to human released green house gases.
Increase in the temperature of earth’s atmosphere.
Green House Gases
Carbon Dioxide Methane
Water Vapor
These gases are released when we drive cars, burn wood or coal, large power plants.
Deforestation(cutting down of forests) is also a reason for the greenhouse gases because fewer trees means less carbon dioxide converted to oxygen.
WHAT IS CAUSING GLOBAL WARMING
Human activities
increase in greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide means more heat being trapped by the atmosphere, leading to higher temperatures around the globe and potential for global climate change.
Carbon Dioxide ◦ Increased in the 19th century ◦ 30% more Oil, gas, and coal
Where is it happening?
EARTH!!
Evidence for warming.. global average air and
ocean temperature Warmer, dry summers
Widespread melting of snow and ice
Melting Arctic Rising of global average
sea levels. Disappearing Islands
How is Global Warming affecting Humans?
More illness and death resulting from heat waves
Worsening air pollution causes more respiratory and cardiovascular disease
Vector-bore disease infection will rise
Changing food production and security may cause hunger
More sever and frequent wildfires will threaten more people
Flooding linked to rising sea levels will displace millions
How is Global warming affecting Animals?
Wildlife depends on healthy habitats. They need:
The right temperatures
Fresh water
Food sourcesPlaces to raise their
young
How is global warming affecting Plants?
In 2003 an article reported effects of global warming in at least 1200 species worldwide
Global warming is killing algae
Its destroying many forests
Global rain has been linked to acid rain which destroys anything it touches
How do humans, animals and plants live in it (adaptations)?
Humans adapt to global warming by trying to change the way they live.
Animals try to adapt to global warming by relocation if possible to raise their young
Plants try to adapt to global warming by moving to a new location or go extinct
Pollution Commuting on a daily
basis such as driving increases the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
One way to prevent the increase of pollution is by carpooling!!
Helping the environmentMore people are
riding buses, walking to school, riding their bikes, taking the metro just to lower the amount of green gases in the atmosphere.
TIME FOR CHANGE The Clean Air Act 1970“Air that is safe to breathe”
• Products such as hairspray, foam cups, etc., now contain labels which inform the consumer how that product can harm the environment.
