CATALOGUE
Great gift
ideas all
year round!
Why Gifts of Compassion? Most of us here in Australia have more than enough “stuff” in our lives, yet each
birthday and Christmas we find ourselves cramming more well-intentioned gifts
into our cupboards. But what if you could give—and receive—gifts that meant
something special to your family and friends, but also to children who have far
less stuff than they need? That is the beauty of Gifts of Compassion!
Does my gift go to my sponsored child?Your Gifts of Compassion gift does not go directly to your sponsored child, but
to life-changing activities represented by these gifts that help many Compassion
assisted children and their families.
To give a gift to your child visit www.compassion.com.au/gifts for options.
Remember! Plan your Gifts of Compassion ahead of time and allow 14 working
days to receive your cards.

The Impact of a Gift
Gifts of Compassion piglets have been a welcome addition to the families
of 4234 Compassion sponsored children living in northern Rwanda. Each
family received a piglet from their local Compassion child development
centre and were trained in how to raise them.
Families are delighted to own an animal because crop farming is difficult in
the cool climate and poor soil. The manure from livestock is a good source
of nutrients for the soil and can generate income when crops are low.
Parents have formed cell groups that meet each week to learn from one
another and work on a savings plan that every parent contributes to and
benefits from.
“I cannot wait for the
piglet to grow, reproduce
and make us all healthy,”
says Fabien, a Compassion
sponsored child.
OINK!
Pigs are seen as a desirable animal because they are easy and
inexpensive to keep and turn a profit quickly. They eat anything, are
easy and quick to breed with a gestation period of only 114 days, and
have large litters of six to eight piglets.
“Apart from some schools in the district, very few people had pigs.
As people share the pigs’ manure with their neighbours, they develop
relationships and are able to invite people to church,” says Musabe
Speciose, a director from one of the benefiting centres.

How does Compassion use funds raised from this catalogue?Funds raised from the Gifts of Compassion catalogue will be used to support
Compassion’s Critical Interventions, which aims to remove any obstacles that stand
in the way of a child’s healthy development and their ability to reach their full
potential. These interventions include providing access to clean water, disaster
relief, parental education, emergency medical care, nutritional support, support for
orphans and highly vulnerable children, HIV/AIDS education and treatment, income
generation for parents, infrastructure and sanitation, immunisations, malaria
prevention, vocational training and non-formal education, and much more.
Compassion Australia will use Gifts of Compassion funds to carry out the activities
represented in this catalogue. Gifts of Compassion gifts do not go to your sponsored
child—they go to communities in need of the interventions represented. Should
excess funds be raised in a particular area, we will meet other urgent needs as they
arise. Approximately 80 per cent of your gift will be directed to program activities.
For more information about Compassion’s Critical Interventions please visit www.compassion.com.au
Your gift is much more than a mozzie net, or a cow, or a rickshaw
for children in the developing world. As well as the physical resources
that are so greatly needed, your gift helps give children and their
families inspiration to dream and hope for a future free from poverty.
Thank you for your generosity.
Thank You!

Whether you’ve been supporting Compassion for years or today is
the first time you’ve heard of us, we want you to know who Compassion
is and what we’re all about.
At Compassion, we believe it takes more than education, health care and
social programs to make a difference in the life of a child, their family
and community. It’s only by the gospel of Jesus Christ that extreme
poverty can end, and lives be changed forever. That’s why Compassion
and its supporters from around the globe work with the local church
in over 26 of the world’s poorest countries to help children get an
education, stay healthy, learn how to build strong relationships and
discover God’s love for them through the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Who is Compassion?Christ-centredEvery child has the opportunity to hear and respond to the gospel message in a culturally relevant way.
Child-focusedPrograms engage each child as a complete individual.
Church-basedPrograms are run exclusively through local churches.

Compassion Child SponsorshipCore to Compassion’s ministry, the Child Sponsorship Program
is transforming the lives of well over one million children in
26 developing countries around the world today. By sponsoring
a child, you have the unique opportunity to show a child living
in poverty they are loved and cherished.
If you would like to sponsor a child visit www.compassion.com.au or call us on 1300 22 44 53.
