established in April 2011. Owned by its 500 members,
it holds education & volunteering days, runs training
and grows organic veg on 22 acres. Running a box
scheme with nearly 400 customers, the farm aims to
reconnect people with where their food comes from

This small orchard is in a lovely spot on an allotment
site, next to 70 acres of green space in Eastville
Park – so feel free to bring a picnic if the weather is
good. ACTIVITIES: We will talk about the history of the
orchard, the varieties of apple trees and encourage
people to help us do some weeding.
GREENS Community Market Garden(Hartcliffe HHEAG)

help of volunteers at a community allotment site.
The produce is used in nutrition and cooking courses,
and is sold to course participants and other local
people at low cost through our Food For All food

and some free food tasters using fresh produce will

different varieties of fruiting trees – many grown in

produce and plants for sale. Ask members fruit and
food growing questions.
Lawrence Weston Community FarmSaltmarsh Drive BS11 0NJ10am–4.30pm Saturday & SundayVolunteers look after gardens and raised beds, fl ower
and vegetable growing. Throughout the year we run
a variety of formal and informal courses, activities
and events. Volunteers help with all aspects of the
running of the farm including looking after the animals,
gardening, woodland work, orchard, wildlife garden,
administration and others.

Arup urban growing groupThe park at the crossing of Portwall Lane and Pippen Street outside Chatterton House BS1 6JZ2–4pm Saturday (The plot is by its nature open
24 hours but it will be manned at this time)
The Portwall urban veg plot was started in April 2011
on an under-used area of council park by a keen
bunch of local offi ce workers. We have three large
beds and tend them during our lunchtime with the aim
of socialising, learning something about veg growing
and hopefully inspiring others to get stuck in!

Buried Treasure as part of ELM (Edible Landscapes Movement)
The Polytunnel, The Park Opportunity Centre, Daventry Road, Knowle BS4 1DQ10am–3pm SaturdayKnowle West food growers producing veg in urban
spaces and local gardens, using digital media to
support collaboration and to share the story with
the local community. Produce is sold back to the
community and local cafés through a local veg box
scheme. ACTIVITIES: Seedlings and vegetables for
sale. Talk to volunteers about urban growing and
how to use digital media to drive food production
and procurement.
Clifton Chilli Club at Easter GardenEaster Garden Community Project, Wesley Place, Clifton BS8 2YE10am–5pm SaturdayA social club for people with a love of chilli peppers.
We grow a wide variety of chillies (and many other
varieties of fruit and vegetables) in several growing
locations in the area. ACTIVITIES: Chilli tasting, chilli
sauce and jam tasting, Raffl e.
College GardenThe Artspace College, Marksbury Road BS3 5JJ 12–4pm Saturday & 12–2pm Sunday A temporary community garden at the old South
Bristol Technical College. ACTIVITIES: On Saturday
we’ll be open 12–4pm – this is our gardening day so
come and join in. There’ll be food and refreshments
available. On Sunday we’ll be open from 12–2pm
for tours around the garden. At 2pm we will lead a
bicycle ride to our satellite project, The Growroom
on Redcliffe Bridge and a Tomato Picnic.

for the 2nd Get Growing Garden Trail.
Come and see what lies behind the
garden walls and get inspired to get
growing too.
Over 30 sites are open at various times
over the weekend, showcasing a diverse
range of growing projects. Each group
has a different way of organising the
work, cultivating the land, and sharing
the harvest – come and fi nd out what
would fi t best for you.

Metford Road Community OrchardMetford Road Allotments, Metford Road, Redland BS6 7LA2–5pm SaturdayWe grow fruit trees, soft fruit, herbs, chutney
plants, and a few nuts on a south-facing slope
with a grapevine at the top, stream at the bottom,
and numerous small ponds. We use permaculture
principles. The site is natural and wildlife-friendly.
Please wear sensible shoes as the slope is steep and
uneven, and can be very slippery. ACTIVITIES: Guided
walkabouts, and tea and biscuits/cake (donations
invited). Produce and plant sales.
Redland Green Allotment Association & Community Orchard
Redland Green Farm, Redland BS6 7HF2–5pm SaturdayAn allotment association growing fruit and vegetables
on individual plots and in deep beds in our community
orchard. Clothing advice as for Metford Road (above).

Sims Hill Shared HarvestStoke Lane, Frenchay – Go along farm track on the right, immediately after bridge over the motorway11am–3pm SaturdayWe are hoping to partner with our sister project Feed
Bristol to offer a minibus service up to the plots which
are both located in the fertile Frenchay area of former
market gardens. ACTIVITIES: This year we will be
having our summer community celebration event on
the site so look for lots of good homemade food and
drink, children’s activities, and farm tours featuring
our homegrown veg plots, potentially brand new
polytunnels, and several acres of woodland.
St Werburghs City FarmWatercress Road, St Werburghs BS2 9YJSaturday – Farm open 8.30am–5pm, but member of staff on site 11am–1pmACTIVITIES: From 11am–1pm a member of the
horticultural unit will be on site to talk about the work
we do at the farm and do a group seasonal activity
at 12pm. There will be a half-hour tour of the local
community garden nearby to show the work we do
there at 1pm.
Stoke Lane Community GardenStoke Lane, Westbury on Trym BS9 3RW1–4pm SaturdayThe project aims to create a shared green space that
is maintained and enjoyed by the local community,
and will provide a habitat for wildlife, especially birds
and insects; improve the natural environment for local
residents and visitors to the area; be a productive
sustainable growing space for community projects;
and create a peaceful space for local people of all
ages and disabilities to enjoy. ACTIVITIES: plant sales,
hints and tips on garden design, refreshments
Sustainable BS3 Patchwork groupMyrtle Street Orchard, Bedminster BS3 1JG2–4pm Sunday (the orchard is always open for
relaxing/picnicking, at 2–4pm members of the group
will be on-hand to explain what they do)
The Patchwork Community Garden group tidy
up neglected patches of land in Bedminster and
Southville, with the aim of making our neighbourhood
more attractive to residents and wildlife. Since 2003
we have identifi ed and worked on six patches and
recently established a small community orchard.
Sustainable Westbury-on-Trym47 Abbey Road, Westbury-on-Trym BS9 3QN12–5pm SaturdayHelping local residents produce 2,000 plants,
tomatoes, beans, squash and pumpkins, for
distribution in Westbury-on-Trym. The aim is to show
those people who would not normally grow any of
their own food that it is possible. ACTIVITIES: Tomato,
bean, squash and pumpkin plants will be available
(at cost price) for planting outside and in greenhouses.
Advice on how to grow them will be available.
Talbot Road Allotment AssociationTalbot Allotments site, entrance at the bottom of Talbot Road, Knowle/Brislington10.30am–12.30pm SaturdayA large site with chalet gardens, beginner plots and
ordinary allotments. We run a shop selling garden
sundries, seed potatoes, onion sets and seeds, and
we also run social events such as bonfi re nights and
summer barbeques. The allotment holders are a
mixture of people who have had their allotments for
years and also beginners with young families. There
are quite a few chickens on the site. The views from
the top of the hill are wonderful and the whole place
is warm, sunny and peaceful with lots of wildlife such
as slowworms, foxes, birds including the occasional
green woodpecker, pheasant and sparrowhawk.
The Golden Hill Community GardenEntrance through the allotment gates at the bottom of Monk Road BS7 8NE10am–3pm SaturdayWe’ll be running tours of our beautiful and
wheelchair accessible site. We have two productive
polytunnels, an edible forest, raised beds, a compost
loo with disabled access, and newly renovated
pond. ACTIVITIES: Visitors are welcome to get their
hands dirty, weeding and planting seeds, or just relax
with a cup of tea and some cake and have a chat
about plants or hear about our work with community
groups.
The Severn ProjectDurley Lane, Keynsham BS31 2AJ10am–12.30pm SaturdayWhat we want to do: Show people what we are
growing and how. Veg, specialised salad, cut and
come again, cut fl owers, native hedging, composting,
conservation.
The Walled Garden60 Barton Hill Road BS5 0AW11am–3pm SaturdayA former vicarage garden, transformed into
a neighbourhood growing project. Designed
on permaculture principles with polytunnels, a
roundhouse and outdoor kitchen, it is working with
local groups and coordinating growing on other local
inner city sites. ACTIVITIES: Volunteers will give tours
and explain how we work with other sites in this part
of the inner city.
Tynings Field Community GroupWoodwell Road, Shirehampton BS11 9UGfrom 10am SundayWe are a small community group growing veg for
ourselves and the wider community. We started the
project last July and have been busy clearing the land
and planting an orchard with new trees. We are one
of the oldest fi elds in Shirehampton, mentioned in
the Doomsday book, and set near Horseshoe bend
site of scientifi c interest. We are also on the Severn
Way footpath. ACTIVITIES: We will be there working
on the open day, refreshments to all visitors. We will
be feeding our chickens (sponsor a chicken for £6
a year), and recruiting members. Selection of local
produce available.
Upper Horfield Community Garden ClubBehind Eden Church, Eden Grove, Horfi eld BS7 0PQ10am–5pm SaturdayUpper Horfi eld Community Garden Club was formed
when residents converted a disused basketball court
into a community growing space with polytunnels,
raised beds, community beds, a wild area and fruit
garden. Our aim is to produce affordable vegetables
and plants at prices local people and visitors can
afford. ACTIVITIES: Herbs, vegetables and fl owers will
be offered for sale. Drinks and cakes will also

Windmill Hill City FarmPhilip Street, Bedminster BS3 4EA10am–5pm Saturday & SundayExperience farming in the heart of the city. There are
educational and recreational facilities and activities for
local people including a range of farmyard animals,
community gardens, picnic area, café serving home-
made food and an adventure playground. ACTIVITIES: Café, refreshments. Come and see the community
allotments and walk around the farm.
Zion Community Art SpaceBishopsworth Road, Bedminster Down BS13 7JW10am–2pm SaturdayJoin us in our fi rst full growing season in our new
garden! With the help of the local community, this
bramble patch has been turned in to a relaxing and
productive garden. Come and see what we’ve done
and make bug homes for benefi cial insects, have tea
and cake or marvel on how a broken church organ
can make amazing raised beds! ACTIVITIES: Plants for

Thornbury Community OrchardOpposite the Anchor pub, Gloucester Road, Thornbury BS35 1JH10am–3pm SundayThornbury Community Orchard is a small
walled area between the stream and the footpath to
the east of Gloucester Road, Thornbury, opposite
The Anchor pub. The orchard contains several apple
and plum trees. It belongs to South Gloucestershire
Council, and has been managed since 2007 by
the Grow Your Own Food group of Sustainable

Centre car park – now called Filnore Allotments. Some
plots are still being cleared, while some had crops last
year. See a newly acquired container for members
