8th April 2016
From the Principal
Term 1 of our Academic Year comes to a close. It has been a wonderful
term for our students who have participated in the academic, service,
sporting and cultural programs with great enthusiasm and zest. A highlight
of the term was our 30th Birthday Plunge. The ripple effect of this amazing
event is still being talked about and shared. It certainly was an event for
everyone. Thank you and well done to all in our community for a positive
term.
Year 12 Commemorative 30th Anniversary Tie
As part of our 30 Year celebrations all Year 12 students will be
gifted a 30th Anniversary tie to be worn as part of their winter
uniform. These ties were designed by our current Year 12
students last year with the support of Mr McCoy. This tradition
will continue with each Year 12 group designing their Year 12 tie
each year. This year’s special 30th Anniversary edition is
designed to be worn with both the boy’s and girl’s uniform.
Para Swim Carnival – Sport in the Right Spirit
It was an honour to be the host school for the Para Swim
Carnival this week. Our students and staff are to be
congratulated for their commitment and enthusiasm at the
carnival.
Singapore Soccer Tour – Kick Off
We wish our students and staff a safe and enjoyable Soccer tour in
Singapore over the holiday period. A wonderful program is in place for our
students. Thank you to Mr Marius Ndiaye, Ms Krystal Skelin and Ms Sarah
Fogliani for bringing this tour to reality for our students.
Weekly Mass - Invitation
A warm invitation is extended to parents, staff, students and friends who
would like to attend our weekly College mass in the Good Shepherd
Chapel. Mass is held on Wednesday mornings and starts at 8.00am and
finishes promptly at 8.30am. Fr Joe and Fr Renald share this mass and it is
certainly a nice way to start the day and take time out for 30 minutes.
Everyone is welcome.
Thank You Ms Leck – College Leadership
Thank you to Ms Fiona Leck for undertaking the role of Deputy Principal whilst Mr Watson has been on
leave. Ms Leck is an outstanding educator and as always her professionalism, diligence and outstanding
leadership is valued. Ms Leck will continue her important role of Director of Academic Standards as a
Senior Executive role for the remainder of the year. In Term 2 we welcome Mr Watson and Ms Stibi back
from their well-earned long service leave.
Counselling Services – A Proactive Model
In Term 2 we welcome our two new counselor appointments, Mrs Irene O’Neil and Ms Marianna Vlahov.
They will join our staff to enhance our pastoral and socio-emotional support for our children. We are
blessed to have two experienced people joining our staff. Over the course of the year we will work to
develop a team approach to our counseling services.
aCROSS the World Project - Update
Our aCROSS the world project took an exciting leap this week with the first of the
blanks going into the kiln. Dylan Walker proudly closed the lid to begin the first stage
of production of the 2016 special crosses to be placed in one Catholic/Christian
school in every country of the world. Many students and staff are now involved in
the research and production process. The aim is to have all schools and countries
identified and contacted in Term 2 with delivery occurring in Terms 3 and 4.
“Beyond 30” – Strategic Directions
Setting our path and vision for the next three years is very important. The College’s strategic plan, called
‘Beyond 30’, can be found on the College website for interested parents and friends. At our recent
Professional Learning day all teachers discussed ‘Beyond 30’ and continued the process of refining our
strategies to achieve the goals set. ‘Beyond 30’ aims to enhance the educational experience of our
children. It has a clear intent to improve academic performance at a personal level, engage our community
and provide improved transition and preparation of students from Year 9 into the senior years of schooling.
Parent Teacher Interviews – Tuesday 26 April 2016
These are important conversations highlighted by the fact we devote a day to them. It provides a time to
connect with your child’s teachers.
Class of 2023
Interviews for Year 7, 2018 have now started. Parents of siblings are reminded that siblings still need to
be enrolled. Sometimes this is forgotten. To avoid disappointment of not having a place in Year 7, 2018
please ensure you have put an application form in for your siblings. The interview process is always
enjoyable and it is an honor to meet prospective students and parents.
Have a safe and happy holiday. We return to school on Tuesday 26 April with our first round of parent
teacher interviews. Students return to school Wednesday 27 April.
For your children
Mark Antulov Principal
Parent-Teacher interviews will be conducted from 1.00pm – 7.00pm, with interviews of 10 minutes
duration on Tuesday April 26. Please note that this is a pupil free day. Parental presence in the
College enhances student learning and promotes understanding between home and school, and as such
students are also encouraged to attend the interviews.
The College welcomes all parental contact, however, we do request that where one teacher has the
same student for multiple subjects that parents book only one time slot. In addition, it is not always
necessary for parents to meet with all of their child’s teachers. It is up to parent judgement as to which
teachers they meet, though the College believes it is imperative that appointments are made if a teacher
has specifically requested an interview. Teachers who have had recent contact with parents may have
chosen not to request an interview. Parents may however, still choose to make an appointment with
these teachers.
Bookings are made through the internet-based booking system called Parent Teacher On-Line (PTO),
saving time for parents, staff and students. Using this system on any internet-connected computer, you
will be able to book the interview times that best suit you. If you do not have access to a computer
please do not hesitate to contact the College on 9307 2000. To access the system click on this link
(https://bookings.parentteacheronline.com.au?school=y86ka) or the PTO icon found on the Welcome
page in SEQTA Engage. The system opens for bookings on Wednesday 6th April and will close at 5pm
on Monday 25th April.
Once on the PTO site, please click on Obtain PIN/Password in the “Need Help?” box on the right of the
screen. You will then be asked to enter your email address in the box to the left of the screen. This
address must match the one currently held by the College. An email will be sent with a direct link
to allow you to book interview times. (These instructions with screenshots/graphics are available on
SEQTA Engage under Documents/Reports). Full instructions are provided to you after log in.
Students and parents are reminded of the change to winter uniform for all students from the first day of
Term 2. The College blazer is a compulsory item that must be worn to school in the morning until the
end of PCG and home from school at the end of the day. Dresses that require alteration must be ready
for the first day of term to sit neatly at the top of the knee.
On Fridays during winter terms, i.e. Terms 2 and 3, students are required to wear the following.
Years 7 – 11: Full College tracksuit with House shirt. The tracksuit jacket may be removed during the
day but must be worn to school, during PCG, then on the way home.
Year 12: House shirt with school shorts and leavers jacket. If students wish to dress warmer then they
have the choice of either the College tracksuit or school winter uniform.

YEAR 7 SCIENCE CLUB NIGHT
On Tuesday 22nd March nearly 50 students of the Year 7 Science Club attended our first official Science
Club night this year. Students did a range of activities including a number of chemical reactions in the
dark such as the hydrogen pop test and our famous
glow in the dark toothpaste. Students also had the
chance to sit around the campfire in the indigenous
garden and listen to Mr Devlin’s talk on aboriginal stories
of the heavens. Other activities included telescope
viewing with Claire Dunne in Year 11 and Mrs Owen
“Get a Shock” show with the Van Der Graaf Generator.
Thanks to all the staff who supported the evening
including Mrs Jovanoski, Miss Skelin, Mrs Jones, Mr Van
Der Kwast, Mrs Owen, Mr Devlin, Mrs Harrison and Mrs
Georgiu. A special thanks to all our wonderful Year 11
students who also came along and supported us on the
night with many of the activities.

All students will receive their certificates as well as premiership pennants next term. We will also await
the official results to see if we have been able to successfully secure the Summer CAS Champion
School Award again.
As the summer season closes our focus shifts to the winter season in Term 2. Information such as
fixtures and venues will make its way onto the College SPORTAL Page over the Term 1 break. Trials for
these teams will take place on Tuesday (Senior Teams), Wednesday (Junior Basketball, Netball &
Soccer) and Thursday (Junior AFL). A link has already been sent to all students via direct message
allowing them to sign up for the various teams available. Students who are still wishing to sign up can
access the website via the following link Winter CAS Sign Ups.
Places are filling up fast meaning positions in teams will be quite tight. There is still plenty of space in the
Year 7 Boys Soccer team, Year 7 Girls Netball teams and the Senior Girls Soccer team so students who
are interested in giving CAS a go in these sports are encouraged to sign up ready for trials next term.
Our coaches and I are looking forward to another successful season.
ACC Swimming
It seems a while ago now, but congratulations to the 105 students who represented the College in the
ACC Swimming Carnival in Week 8. Although many may look at our results and deem it an unsuccessful
venture, this couldn’t be further from the truth. We have witnessed a definite shift in attitude and culture
towards the swimming season and although it may not have transpired into results this year if we (staff,
coaches, students and indeed parents) can continue to approach it as we did this year the results will
start to follow. Final points results were as follows:
Team Male Score Female Score Total
St Stephens Duncraig 548 648 1196

the quickest team from all carnivals. Finally, Alyssa Burgess also broke the ACC record in her 50m
butterfly event.
100K Club
Now that swimming has finished our attention turns to Cross Country. It was great to have some
students down to the first three sessions on 100K Club for 2016 during Week 10. Sessions will
commence again on the first day back at school in Term 2 (Wednesday 27th April). 100K Club is open to
all students and sessions can be/are tailored to individual fitness levels if necessary. Besides the
obvious fitness benefits it does provide a surprisingly good social environment for students to interact
with their peers and assist in the development of their mental strength/resilience. The hardest part is
getting up in the morning to be at school by 7am. Students are able to set themselves personal
challenges and goals and work towards them to hopefully become a member of the 100K Club. If
students are interested and have not yet picked up a permission slip from me in the PE office please
send me a direct message and I can email one through to you over the holiday break that can be
returned next term.
Interhouse X Country
Our second Interhouse sporting event and arguably our second largest based on participation levels will
take place on the first Friday of Term 2 (29th April). The race will commence at 4:15 on the school oval
that will take students through a 4km course around the school block. Given the level of participation at
the Swimming Carnival the challenge has been set to have 600 students running in the race. Students
can choose to run competitively or take it at a gentler pace if they prefer as everyone who starts and
finishes will earn points towards the Interhouse Sports Trophy. Following the race all students will be
able to get themselves a free sausage sizzle and drink. Parents are encouraged to attend to spectate
and are able to take their son/daughter once they have completed the course. Nominations are not
required and students simply have to show up after school ready to participate.
It is important to note that the Constellation Ave car park will be closed from 3:45 on this day as students
will be entering and leaving via the car park as part of the race.
School Sport WA News

On Tuesday 15th March, the very popular Twilight Sounds Picnic Concert took place in the Prendiville
entrance gardens. The forecasted stormy weather thankfully held off so families, friends and staff could be
entertained by the Jazz Band, Year 11 & 12 Vet Music students, soloists and small groups. A big thanks to
the student and parent helpers, the Friends of Music Committee for organising the sausage sizzle, tea and
coffee and the Music staff for coordinating the event. A special thank you to Bakers Delight Beaumaris City
for donating the buns for the sausage sizzle. Congratulations to all performers on a fantastic concert

ANDY WRIGHT INCURSION
On Friday 11th March, the Year 7 cohort was lucky enough to be
educated in the art of storytelling by renowned storyteller, Andy
Wright. Andy travels the world delivering comedic, suspenseful and
exciting stories, to demonstrate to his listeners that all you need for
an engaging story is a voice and body language. He certainly
reminded us that it is a very human need to connect through story.
The students responded with zeal to Andy's enthusiastic style, as he
immersed himself in the world of Lord Fox. We were delighted to see the students participating so well; I
can still picture the aisle row sitting entranced, hugging their knees and peeping through their fingers.
On behalf of our Year 7 cohort, Lucy Prior, reviewed the event:
‘Interesting Incursion’
I thought that the incursion on Friday with Andy Wright was enjoyable. He made it enthusiastic and
everyone was very interested in what he was saying. The story was a romance and horror story. He
made it scary by shouting and making me feel scared - my friends and I were jumping out of our seats. I
loved it how he pretended to be two people on the stage. Everyone was focused on every word he was
saying.

BACK TO THE FUTURE
My, how we have progressed. From the time this photo was taken over 30 years ago there
have been many photos, slides, films, videos and memorabilia sitting in cupboards, in old
tea chests or even currently being worn still in existence. I’m putting a call out for any token
of the colourful past of our College. If it remains something close to you and you would
never part with then just loan it to us for short period of time. We’d love to hear from you in
any case.
Our plan is to establish a special Back to the Future Day later in the year where everything we collect will
be displayed. New videos and shots will be taken
and we will have a New Age audio visual show to
SHOWCASE our past. Tours conducted by original
students will also be a feature.
For the moment however, if you have or know
someone who has memorabilia then we are keen
to acquire it or loan it. I’d love to hear from you.
