Heather Rose was “two monthsshy of her 16th birthday” the dayshe died, says her mom, AmandaValerius, “and the world is a littledarker now without her around.”

In 2018 the Valerius family hadjust moved to Two Harbors fromZimmerman, and Heather had justspent her first three days at hernew school. Then, on the icy Feb-ruary roads, the vehicle thatHeather was riding in went out ofcontrol, rolled, and she lost herlife.

In Heather's memory her par-ents, Amanda and JeremyValerius, started the Heather RoseFoundation with the goal of rais-ing money for high school stu-dents to use toward post-second-ary goals.

Amanda Valerius says that theirfamily was motivated to start thefoundation's work becauseHeather had a facility for puttingherself in other's shoes, and fortrying to help others whenevershe could.

“My daughter had a huge heartand tried to make people feelloved and special, she would al-

ways reach out to other studentswhen they weren't comfortable,”said Valerius.

The foundation continues toaward a legacy scholarship inZimmerman, where Heather waswell known by other students, along with several for Two Har-bors High School students.

“Even though most people on

the north shore didn't knowHeather, it's important for us togive here because the amount oflove and support the communityhas shown our family is amazing,”said Valerius.

Rocky Wall Productions isthrilled to announce that Cana-dian-born and Terlingua, TXbased singer-songwriter SarahBurton will be performing aFREE live concert on Friday, Sep-tember 10th, at City Center Parkat 7:00 pm in Silver Bay CityCenter Park near City Hall.

Burton’s career started in 2006with a broken heart, a broken-down van, and a haphazard touracross Canada in a van namedLucky. This set the tone for anartist life driven by adventure, spontaneity, and a desire to con-nect with people from all walks oflife. 3 Minivans, and several grey-hound trips later, Sarah hasplayed on average, 150 shows ayear, released 5 albums andplayed many festivals acrossNorth America, finding and shar-ing the inspiration for hundreds ofsongs. Rooted in folk, and skirt-ing pop, rock and country –Sarah’s music is a collage of herown adventures, and the peopleshe meets along the way. Hersongs have made their way to thebig screen, earned college radiocharting in US and Canada andcommercial radio play in Canadaand Europe.

Sarah Burton, who draws herinspiration from the likes of TomPetty and Loretta Lynn, is nonewcomer to the world of record-ing and performing. With her fifthstudio album, Give Me What 1

Sarah Burton -Tumbleweeds, Truth and Terlingua, TX Come to Silver Bay

Want, Sarah premiers avignette of new age wildwest songs about internetdating, crazy exes, gettingolder and feeling like ev-eryone around you is inlove and you're not.

While Canadian-bornsinger-songwriter SarahBurton originally relo-cated to the US for ex-panded career opportuni-ties, she says she had anulterior motive. “All of usCanadians who go southhave a warm spot forwarmth” she laughs.

Burton embraces theheat in Terlingua, TX. Thefar-flung desert town celebrateseccentricity; in the recent past, abeer-swilling goat was electedmayor. “It’s pretty wild” Burtonsays. ·This weird juxtaposition ofa small town with a vibrantnightlife, filled with music, cul-ture, art and crafts."

Burton notes that in alternativerock and pop music, female repre-sentation is on the rise. She is dis-mayed that country music and theAmericana genre remain male-dominated. “1 went to the Ameri-cana Fest last year and there werea lot of great female nominees andrepresentation on stage, but theydidn't win." she says. “They werenominated, but the Americana vot-ers chose more men. It sucks thatit has to be the women's music

scene versus the men's musicscene. I wish there was a musicscene where people were repre-sented according to skill and awe-someness.”

Awesomeness indeed: An au-thentic, inspired artist, Burton hasclearly paid her proverbial dues.On her title track, "Give Me WhatI Want." to the reverberant accom-paniment of a plaintive steel gui-tar, she sings a droll plea to theheavens for a romantic reward.“It’s taken me all of these years torealize that if you want somethingyou have to ask for it” she con-cludes.

Burton is no stranger to SilverBay as this will be her fourth visit

our community. We are pleased to announce that

Timber Coffee Company andShore Happy Food Truck will bejoining us as well. Bring a blanketand a lawn chair and enjoy theshow.
