BOAT SALES are the epicenter of the$121.5 Billion United States Marine Industry and
the 963,818 well-paying jobs it produces.
It’s time to fix a 107 year-old law that prevents job creation and discriminates against U.S. residents.
By implementing deferred importation, U.S. residents could board and purchase foreign flagged vessels while in U.S. waters, the same as non-U.S. residents.
They will simply import and pay duty at the time of sale, just as other nations require of U.S. flagged boats while in their waters.
This will encourage $2.46 billion in additional U.S. recreational marine economic activity.
In 1908, Congress passed legislation requiring reciprocal cruising licenses with our most favored nation trading partners. The U.S. is the only nation that forbids offering vessels for sale to U.S. residents while under a valid cruising license.
Deferring Importation... Creates jobs. Increases tax revenues. Is fair and makes sense.
Not for sale in U.S. waters
