How to Add SDSU Classes
For Business Students: How to add “Main Campus” classes
● You may enroll in up to 18 units and drop extra units no later thanMonday, September 9th at 7:59 p.m.
• Undergraduate students must enroll in 12 unitso Levels 100-599
• Graduate students must enroll in 9 units1. Three 500-799 level courses (must ask for graduate level work in 500-level)
2. Two 600-799 level courses - automatic graduate statusONE other course (100-799 level)
• Students taking only one 600-799 level course are not considered graduate students and must enroll in 12 units
REQUIRED ENROLLMENT UNITS
WARNING:If you are enrolled in 13 or more units (10 or more for graduate students)
after September 9th at 7:59 PM, you will pay additional fees:
Undergraduate fee = $282.00 per unitor
Graduate fee = $342.00 per unit
ADDITIONAL FEES
● Which courses can I not enroll in?○ Nursing○ Speech Language Hearing Sciences○ Internship courses○ Classes level 800-999○ Undergraduate Students – do not enroll in 600-700 level courses○ Classes that do not have a schedule number assigned or have “ARR” assigned
as the meeting time. These are Special Study/Research courses and students usually have a pre-existing relationship with a professor to be recommended.

• If you click on the location, it will bring up the building on a campus map
LOG INTO CES GATEWAY
• Go to ces.sdsu.edu• On the top right, click on “Login”• Click on “Open U”

• Enter your RED ID number in the “SDSU RedID” box• Enter your password in the “Password” box
• Default/temporary password is “ ”• Click ‘Login” when ready
Temporary Password
• Enter your RED ID number in the “SDSU RedID” box
• The Temporary Password is: Sdsu!!!2019• It is case sensitive• Remember to change it as soon as you log in!!

To update mailing address, phone number, email address, or password• Click on “Update Your Personal Information”

• Scroll down
• Change your password after your first login
• Click “Save” to continue

OPEN UNIVERSITY REGISTRATION: ADDING A COURSE
To add a course, there are two options. You will either:
• Add a course directly (since the course has open seats)
OR
• Be added onto a waitlist (since the course is full)

• To add a course, click “Open University Registration”

• Enter the schedule number
• Click “Submit”

• If the course has a space, the course information will display• Click “Continue”• Fees will show as 0, but you will be charged at a later date if you
are over your unit limit

• Actual enrollment may be delayed
When you enter the schedule number, the system will tell you if the class is full
WHAT IF THE CLASS IS FULL?

• Enter the schedule number and click “Submit”

• If the course is full, you will receive a message asking if you want to be added to the waitlist
• Click “Yes” to be added to the waitlist• Click “No” to enter another schedule number

• You must agree to all terms of being placed onto a waitlist• Click “Yes, add this class to my waitlist”

• You will receive a confirmation message if added successfully to a waitlist
• Your ranking on the waitlist will be displayed
OPEN UNIVERSITY REGISTRATION:SCHEDULING CONFLICT
• If there is a scheduling conflict, you will receive a warning message• If you accept the terms, and are automatically enrolled into a
waitlisted course with a scheduling conflict, you will be dropped automatically from the currently enrolled class
WAITLIST ERROR MESSAGES
• You will receive a message if your waitlist attempt was unsuccessful
- The section is already on your waitlist
OR
- You have already waitlisted 4 other courses
OPEN UNIVERSITY REGISTRATION:ADDING A WAITLISTED COURSE
How is waitlist ranking determined? Semester at SDSU students are given priority based on the time you
entered the waitlist, but matriculated SDSU students receive highestpriority.
Will my ranking on the waitlist stay the same? No, your ranking can change at any time. You could be number 3
and five minutes later be number 7 if several matriculated students enter the waitlist.
How many classes can I waitlist? The maximum number of waitlisted courses is 4.
Can I waitlist for another section of the same course I am already enrolled in? Yes, but if you are enrolled automatically from the waitlist, it will drop
you from the already enrolled course.
TIP
During this process, you are able to enroll in more than one course at a time. You should enroll in courses with open spaces first, then go back and
add waitlisted courses later.
HOW TO DROP A CLASS
• On the Open University Registration page, click on “Manage Open University Courses”

• Click “Drop” next to the course you want to drop

• Enter your reason for dropping the course• Click “Yes” to continue the drop process• After you click “yes”, you cannot undo the drop!

• A drop confirmation will display if successful• Click “Continue” to return to the registration page
HOW TO DROP A WAITLISTED CLASS
• On the “Manage Open University Courses” screen, click “Remove” next to the course you want to drop from the waitlist
HOW TO DROP A WAITLISTED CLASS
• Click “Yes” to continue the waitlist removal process• After this screen, if you want the class again, you must add
yourself back on the waitlist and may have lower priority than before!

• A waitlist removal confirmation will display if successful• Click “Continue” to return to the registration page
Maximum Enrollment is 18 units
• You will receive an error message if you attempt to enroll over 18 units

If I am enrolled in 18 units, will the system allow me to enroll in 21 units if I am admitted to a waitlisted course? No. If you are hoping to be admitted to a waitlisted course, the
total units including the admitted waitlisted course must not bemore than 18 units You should enroll in 15 units, leaving 3 units for a waitlisted
course You should enroll in 12 units, leaving 6 units for waitlisted
courses

If I enroll in a course directly or automatically from the waitlist, does this guarantee me a space in the course? NO, you may still be dropped by the professor or department from a
course if you do not meet the prerequisites or requirements of the course. Professors can also drop students who do not attend the first class meeting.
Can I attend a course that I am on the waitlist for? Yes, you should still attend a waitlisted course to not miss any
information

How do I know if I have been enrolled in a course from my waitlist? You will receive an email confirming that you have been enrolled in a
course from the waitlist. You should also be monitoring your waitlist and enrolled courses frequently.
All the courses that I am interested in are full and I have to waitlist for them. What should I do? It is recommended to enroll in other courses in order to remain in status.
You should discuss options with your home university. You should enroll in courses with spaces, not just waitlists. You are able to waitlist up to four courses.

Can I enroll in courses that are at the same day and time? Do I have to attend every class meeting? No, you cannot enroll in classes that are at the same time. You are
required to attend every class meeting, and you cannot be in two places at the same time.
