CHAIRMAN’S CHAT
As the year draws to a close, many of us will be looking forward to the
holidays. This is probably the time that most of us get to take more
photographs than usual. We can take advantage of being in a different place
with new scenes to take pictures of. Different things happen around us which
also make good photographs. This year I am extremely lucky to be going to
Hong Kong. I was there for a short while some years ago and all that I can
remember is that the smells were overwhelming, not in a good way! I hope to
try and get some good pictures of the city skyline even though it has been
done so often before and I will also do some street photography. Even if you
are not going anywhere exotic there are still plenty of photo opportunities so
get out there and take advantage of the holiday season!
I think that I can safely say that the Club has ended another successful year.
We did exceptionally well in the PSSA interclub competition and also in the
CERPS competition. This shows that the standard of our photography
remains high. This is important for the club because the novice
photographers learn from the more experienced members. The higher the
standard the more the novices will learn, and that is what the club is about.
Keep pushing yourself even if sometimes you think that things are not getting
better. I promise that after a few months you will look back and see how far
you have come.
After the AGM, Hanli got working on the new Facebook page. It is a bit of a
venture into the unknown so it is great that Hanli is taking the initiative. The
page will be an important interface with possible new members for the club so
we need to make it work for us. Once it is up and running let’s get it out
there as widely as possible, we can all help.
See you soon
Colin

Naming Conventions are as follows:-
Star Rating_Category_Image Name_Person’s Name
Example: 2_na_hornbill_john doe (all lowercase)
Entries must be handed in by no later than 19h20 on the night
RECOMMENDED PROCEDURE
1. Select Canvas (Frame) Size under the heading “Image” in Photoshop if you wish to add a
boarder to the image and make your adjustements. If you do not wish to add a boarder, go to
Step 2.
2. Select Image Size under the heading “Image” in Photoshop. Tick the following boxes: Scale
Styles, Constrain Proportions and Resample Image.
3. The maximum size of the image must not exceed 1920 pixels wide by 1080 pixels high.
4. When resizing a horizontal image (Landscape) enter 1920 pixels in the Width Box and the
vertical size will be adjusted automatically if you have ticked the “Resample Image” box. If
the vertical size is 1080 pixels or less, the resizing is correct. If the vertical adjusts to a value
more than 1080 pixels (say 1096 pixels) then adjust the vertical size to 1080 pixels and the
horizontal size will automatically reduce to below 1920 pixels if you have ticked the
“Resample Image” box.
5. When resizing a vertical impage (Portrait) enter 1080 pixels in the Height Box. The value in
the Width Box will change automatically to match the original image if you have ticked the
“Resample Image” box.
6. The maximum image data file size is 1,500Kilobytes in the JPEG format. Note that if a border
is added to the image, this must be added before resizing and reducing the file size to a
maximum of 1,500 Kilobytes to ensure that the image remains within the specified 1,500Kb.
7. It is recommended that the image be displayed in the sRGB Colour Profile. This can be
selected in the camera or changed in Photoshop under Edit/Convert to Profile.

HUMOUR
THE E-MAIL TEXT
Hi Bob,
This is Peter next door. I'm sorry buddy, but I have a confession to make to you.
I've been riddled with guilt these past few months & have been trying to pluck up the courage to tell
you to your face, but I am at least now telling in text as I can't live with myself a moment longer
without you knowing. The truth is, I have been sharing your wife, day & night when you're not
around. In fact, probably more than you, particularly in the mornings after you've left for work. I
haven't been getting it at home recently, but that's no excuse I know. The temptation was just too much
... I can no longer live with the guilt & I hope you will accept my sincerest apologies & forgive me.
I promise that it won't happen again.
Regards,
Peter.
THE REACTION
Bob, feeling anguished & betrayed, immediately went into his bedroom, grabbed his gun, & without a
word, shot his wife twice, killing her instantly.
He returned to the lounge where he poured himself a stiff drink & sat down on the sofa. He took out
his phone to respond to the neighbour's text & saw that he had another message from his neighbour,
Peter.
THE SECOND TEXT Hi Bob,
This is Peter next door again. Sorry about the slight typo on my last text, I expect you worked it
out anyway, but as I'm sure you noticed, my predictive text changed 'WiFi' To 'Wife'.
Technology hey?!?
Hope you saw the funny side of that.
Regards,
Peter
