gifts to make the world uglier. There is a God honoring way to use technology, and that is exactly what we will be studying the first three Sundays in February at FBC. Not only will I be preaching on the issue, but we plan to put resources in your hands and ideas in your mind through our Home Connection min-istry that will help you use technology as the good gift God intends it to be. We will start this campaign, called Connected 3D, on February 5th, and we will distribute the helpful resources on February 12th. I hope that you will be able to make some of the services and join others in being set free from the ugly side of technology. There is another big event occurring on February 5th that will make you want to be at church that day. I and the Personnel Committee are inviting Joel Allen, of Waco, in view of a call to be our new Contempo-rary Worship Minister. Joel and his wife Cara will be available for a meet and greet from 6pm to 7pm on Saturday, February 4th in the Fel-lowship Hall. This event will be “come and go,” which will hopefully work for those of you with busy schedules. Joel will play in both services on Sunday, February 5th, and a ballot vote will be taken at the conclusion of each service. We feel that Joel is the individual to whom God has led us. Joel is not only a gifted musician, but more importantly, he has a minister’s heart and desires to see people intimately connect with God through worship. Please pray about this and come ready to help us determine God’s will for our church on Sunday, February 5th.
Disconnect to Connect
“The Lord God said, ‘It is not good that the man should be alone.’” – Genesis 2:18
Valentine’s Day is right around the corner fellas . . . and I have the perfect date idea in mind for the special woman in your life. Get a babysitter to take care of the kids if needed, and take your wife/girlfriend out to a nice restaurant, one of those that’s only in your price range dur-ing special occasions. When the two of you sit down to eat look her in the eyes, tell her that you love her, and then don’t forget to check in on Facebook so that everyone knows how awesome of a husband/boyfriend you are. While you have your phone out, you should probably go ahead and text your buddies to see if they’re being as romantic as you. Have you checked your e-mail since you left home? You should probably do that because you wouldn’t want to miss something im-portant from work like those funny jokes your co-workers are always sending you. By this time, I’m sure your wife/girlfriend is now on her phone too, so you might as well check scores on your ESPN app and maybe play a couple of games. Surely the two of you can talk once the food is served, but remember to leave your phone face up on the table even after the food arrives just to make sure you don’t miss anything important. I trust your significant other will be swept off her feet and feel fortunate to be with such a romantic man. Then again, maybe not. I’m hoping that you caught the sarcasm in the above paragraph because I was laying it on pretty thick. There are many romantic things you can do for and with your significant other on Valentine’s Day, but distracting yourself with technology rather than actually engaging with him/her is not one of them. Sadly, this is how many of us operate in our day-to-day lives. We see our still relatively new smart phones and other technological devices as great ways to connect with the world around us, which they are. Yet we allow them to dominate our time and atten-tion so much that we forget to connect with those people who are literal-ly right in front of us: our families and loved ones. I’ll confess that I, too, am guilty of sometimes staring at the screen of my mobile device for minutes on end and forgetting to engage my family even when I haven’t seen them much at all during the day. Technology is a good gift from God. Technology allows my chil-dren to chat with their grandparents face-to-face even when they’re several hours apart. Today’s technology allows us to communicate with more people and at a faster pace than has ever been possible. Technological advances in science and medicine make our world a healthier and even happier place. I thank God for technology, including the computer on which I’m currently writing this article that will be used to communicate a truth to all of you. Still we as humans have a knack for abusing good gifts from God to the point where they become curs-es. Sex, food, wealth, and even power are good gifts given by God to us to improve the world. Yet humans have, for millennia, abused these

Missions Savings Club . . . Even though
our 2017 Missions Savings Club sign-ups officially went through the month of Janu-ary, certainly individuals can sign up or simply begin participating at any time. Information sheets will continue to be available on the bulletin board across from the Choir Room. Generally, the “club” encourages members to give an amount
of their choosing each month to missions, and these funds are added to the amounts given by the church as a whole during the times of special emphasis for State Missions, North American Missions, and International Missions. Last year the Missions Savings Club members had given over half of our church’s goal for each seasonal offering before the time of special emphasis even began, and this allowed our church to exceed all three missions offering goals. If you would like to know more about the Missions Savings Club, please see me at your convenience.
An Earlier Start to Sunday Morning . . . Our Sunday morn-
ing Worship Choir rehearsal has been moved up 15 minutes from 8:00am to 7:45am. Fifteen minutes doesn’t seem like a significant amount of time, but it does allow us more time to look at new music as well as the piece we are doing in the 8:30 ser-vice that morning. A big “THANK YOU!” to our Worship Choir members for getting up a little earlier to prepare themselves as worship leaders on Sunday morning. As always if you are inter-ested in possibly joining our group, we welcome you. If you just want to “stick your toe in the water” to see what it’s like, you need not make any long term commitment. However, we be-lieve once you have a chance to be around the quality folks in our choir even for just a few minutes on Sunday morning, you’ll never want to leave. See me if you have other questions.

It is February! We have had a great month back in CDO! January seems to have flown by! This month we will have a Valentine’s Day ice cream sun-dae party on February 14th! Parents are invited to join their kids for a sundae! Make plans to be here at 2:15pm! We are also doing our monthly color celebration on the 14th as well — Pur-ple, Pink and White Day! So anything purple, pink or white will work! It will be a fun day! Thank you, parents, for bringing your kids each week! We have such a good time with them! The 2017-2018 school year enrollment packets will be out before you know it! As always, if you have questions, please let me know! What a great year we are having at CDO! Our teachers are excellent, and I am so thankful for the work they do each week!
I do hope that February is a wonderful month for you and
your family!
Ms. Amy
Happy February! Thank you to everyone who came and supported us in our re-cent camp lunch and dessert auction fundraiser! It is early in the year, but I’m always looking ahead to summer! I am looking for VBS volunteers! If you are interested in helping with this amazing week sharing Christ with children, let me know! We have a place for you! The dates are June 25—29! Start praying now for the leaders and the kids that come to VBS!! This summer we are going back to Riverbend Retreat Center in Glen Rose for kids camp July 31st—August 4th! Our kids had a blast last year and we are looking forward to another wonderful week! If you have any questions, please let me know! The cost for camp is $200 per camper. Please, don’t let money be an issue. We have scholarships available, so please come see me! On February 25th, we are having a special mother—daughter spa night! It’s going to be a lot of fun and is geared towards pre-school and grade school girls and moms! There will be crafts, DIY projects, snacks and some quality time to spend with your daughter! It will be a free event on Saturday the 25th, 6-8pm. If you would like more information, please let me know! February is such a great month to talk with your kids about Christ! We have the Valentine’s holiday that revolves around love, and what greater show of love than Jesus dying for us! I want to en-courage you to look for ways to talk to your kids about Christ! Help them find ways to show love to others the way God shows love to them! It could be making Valentines, taking them to the nursing home, or making something special for a teacher or a neighbor! Eve-rything you do as a parent impacts your kids! They learn from you, because they are always watching you! Help them see the love of Christ in you, as you show it to others!

Hello FBC Grandview,
My name is Joel Allen and I am excited to join with you in worship on February 5, 2017. I want to give you a little bit of information about my awesome wife, Cara and myself. I spent most of my life living in Ada, Oklahoma. Ada is known for being the home of Blake Shelton and our 19 state football champi-onships. I grew up in a Christian home and committed my life to Christ at a young age. During high school I began to discern my call to ministry. I have had opportunities to serve in internships in chil-dren’s, youth, and college ministry, as well as opportunities to lead in worship. God has placed a unique passion in my heart to help foster a community of worship in the church. My wife Cara and I were married in June 2013 following college. We soon moved to Waco, Texas so that I could attend Truett Semi-nary and Cara could begin her master’s in Higher Education. She has since finished her master’s degree and is working towards a PhD. I will complete my Master’s of Divinity in May! We love moun-tain biking, taking spontaneous road trips, and drinking coffee. I am deeply passionate about worship. I believe that worship is the daily act of fixing our eyes on God and Him alone. In joining together in worship, we are confessing our unified praise, adoration, and thankfulness to God. My heart is to see the church praising God personally in life and communally in song. We are excited to join with you in worship, and we look for-ward to meeting you!
Grace and Peace, Joel and Cara Allen
