Our Mission
“The purpose of First
Baptist Church is to
honor God as we love and minister to all
people, witness to them of our life-changing
Savior, lead them into the fellowship of His
church, and nurture them in Christian
growth.”
Many of us depend upon computers for daily tasks with a necessary guideline we must follow. We are required to have a password for almost every important exchange or communication. In the turbo-technical, cyber-charged world, one simple password opens all the needed doors. You need one to open your computer, check email, check accounts, place orders, go on social safaris with media such as Facebook and Twitter, search newspaper archives, et. al. We also need a password to do banking or use a card to make online retail purchases. With financial accounts it is called a PIN, a “personal identification number.” The real key is remembering your password or PIN. Conventional wisdom suggests that we not use the same password or PIN for all accounts. We are advised not to attach all of our information to one common series of keystrokes. Prudent promenading through our contemporary, cybernetic, instant-access society is wisely engaged with multiple “secret codes.” This is essential in order to throw off would-be agents of theft or espionage. It becomes vital, therefore, to store our PIN(s) and passwords for safekeeping and, significantly, so we will not forget them. I have realized through experience that a forgotten password is ineffective. Accordingly, In order to safeguard them, I have a password to my password storage. (Do we see a pattern evolving?) Here is the really good news: we do not need a password to communicate with God. We just call to Him with our preferred “username”—Lord, Heavenly Father, God, Master, Creator, Redeemer. God opens up right away. In fact, God is always “on-line.” The passwords we choose for our computer browsing and ATM banking generally say something about us—birthdays, nicknames, occupations, favorite things, etc. Perhaps a good prayer password that could say something about us and how we should pray is “more.” We have more praise, more
confessions, more concerns, more requests, and more thanksgiving each time we share with God. We could also ask that God help us to be more loving, more merciful, more servant-oriented, more effective in our witness, and more likely to live more like the previous prayer experience. It is not a consumption or quantity password. It is not a unit of spiritual measure. It is a confessional, grateful, loyal password. We do not need to get a “proxy” prayer server. But it might boost our profile…”More Like Jesus Would I Be…”
Blessings, Ray

New Years Lunch
Welcome to a New Year, a time to reflect on the past and to have a new beginning , turning the page to a new chapter in our lives! Resolutions are hard to keep, so plan on doing one thing at a time and do it well. Then it will be easier to accomplish other things.
New Year’s Day was filed with good food and fellowship at the First Baptist Senior Adult Lunch. The collards, blackeye peas, sweet potatoes, pork loin and Moon Pies were delicious and enjoyed by everyone who attended. Mr. Harvey Knowles entertained us with his harmonica, playing “When the Saints Come Marching In” and several other songs. Special thanks to Jart Hudson for providing the sweet potatoes. Also, thanks to everyone (Bobby & Faye Warren, Linda Combs, Phyllis McKee) who took time to prepare the meal, it takes two full days to get it done! Thanks to all who had any part in making our activities so special this past year.
Precious Gems met on January 15. We had 19 people to attend. Faye Warren welcomed everyone and asked for prayer concerns. Ruby Johnson shared a devotional about blessings and reminded us that Jesus is the only one to thank for the many blessings we receive. Penny Lockerman led us in a wonderful workout. She is a great teacher, and we appreciate her taking time to do this. We played bingo, with everyone being a winner. We traveled to the Golden Corral in Smithfield for lunch. Afterward we stopped at the pottery to find some after-Christmas sales. Everyone had a really good time and all are excited to do this again.
God is good all the time, all the time God is good! He is the only one important. Blessings to you in this New Year!
