History

230 girls and young single
mothers were empowered

• We envision a society full of
protected and empowered young
women, taking their own
initiatives towards self-
fulfillment and sustainable
social and economic
development.
Mission
• Empowering young single
mothers, girls, and vulnerable
children at risk in rural and
urban areas.
• We are thus undertaking the
task of promoting human
transformation by improvement
of knowledge through
education, health, livelihood and
sustainable development.
About Faraja
Target group
• Young single mothers below
18 years
• Vulnerable and marginalized
girls who became victims of
human trafficking, early
marriage and/or abuse
• Young girls at risk are received at
Faraja Center throughout the year
• They are brought to us by the
police or the social welfare office
• They find a secure place to live,
receive consultancy to cope with
their traumas
• They attend primary and
afterwards secondary school
• Older girls participate in the
Vocational Training Course at
Faraja Center
Our work with young girls
• Young single mothers are
identified from the regions
Arusha, Kilimanjaro and
Manyara
• They are welcome at Faraja
Center the following year in
January and start their one-year
Vocational Training Course
• Whereas young mothers at risk
are also received at Faraja
Center troughout the whole year
Our work with young mothers
Vocational Training
Cookery
• The young women who
specialize in cookery attend a
cookery class on a daily basis
throughout one year
• They are taught to cook local
such as international food
• For 3 months the girls will
attend a practical internship in
local hotels and restaurants
where they can further develop
their skills
Vocational Training
Tailoring
• The young women who
specialize in tailoring attend a
sewing class on a daily basis
throughout one year
• They are taught to tailor any
kind of clothes for men,
women and also children
• This knowledge enables them
to either work in the tailoring
industry or to open their own
tailoring shop
Education
• Entrepreneurship skills
▫ Skills for starting and running
their own business
• Mathematics
• English
• Computer
• Health education (HIV)
• Lifeskills
Daycare and pre-school
• During the time their mothers
attend school, the children
below 4 years stay in our
daycare center
• The children at pre-school age
attend classes at our pre-school
whereby children from the
nearby villages get also
involved.
Sustainability
• After graduating from Faraja Center the young women receive a start-up package including
▫ 3 months’ rent
▫ furniture and equipment for their homes
▫ cookery tools for the cooks and sewing machines for the tailors
to support them on their way to employment and an independent life
• Whenever it is possible we try to re-unify the women with their families
