About the workshops
We can always do more to make positive differ-
ences for our clients, causes, or customers. The
purpose of these workshops is to share our col-
lective experience. Diana and Susie have a lot
— so do you. So come prepared to learn and
share, to challenge yourself and others to do
better, to learn something new.
Who should attend
Communications staffers new to the work or DC;
policy, program and advocacy staff; EDs; and
interns in government, nonprofit, business, and
faith settings.

Workshops
October 22: Having a personal relationship with local
media
To be covered: Who covers what beat, tips on getting
to know local journalists, and the basics – back-
ground, off the record, on the record, having a media
policy
October 29: Getting to know and maintaining relation-
ships with Council staff
To be covered: Early-in-the-new-Council events, who
does what and who is where, and identifying who does
what
November 19: Getting to know exec branch staffers
To be covered: Participate in transition, schedule
meetings early in the new administration and identify-
ing who does what
December 3: Outreach that actually reaches out
To be covered: Timing on notices, invitations, flyering;
formatting materials; and developing good lists, get-
ting on good lists
Cost, Location, Etc. Cost: $15 per person per workshop. This includes materials, juice, water, tea, and coffee.
Discount: There is a 10% discount for every person signing up for all four workshops.
Refund requests must be made no later than two working days before the workshop. The re-
fund amount will be less the transaction fee (~$1/workshop). Email Susie Cambria

All workshops will be held from 8:45 - 10:30 am in the offices of the DC Children and Youth Invest-
ment Trust Corp. (CYITC), 1400 16th St NW, Suite 320. Registration is from 8:45 - 9:00 am; work-
shops start promptly at 9:00 am.
There is an expensive parking garage in the building (entrance on P St NW), street parking (metered
and not), and access to Metrorail and bus. Dupont Circle is the closest rail station.
