Charles H. Spurgeon
Our Office Administrator, Lisa Harris, has gathered her stories from writing for the ‘Georgia Mountain Laurel’ magazine for a few years and with the insistence from her publisher, Tracy McCoy, her first book, “Blackberry Mornings” has been published. Lisa has been with Faith since 2010, but her relationship with the church began at birth where she grew up here and still has her parents, Leonard & Shirley Lynn and other family members and great friends that worship here. Lisa’s goal is to use whatever talent has been given her to honor God. She feels drawn to write inspiring, hopeful stories that may make you smile or touch your heart. Please join us on Sunday, October 11th, after worship (12:15pm until 4:00pm) for a book signing in the Fellowship Hall. Light refreshments will be served. Cost of book: $10.70 (includes tax)
“When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope
that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say,
‘I used everything you gave me.”—Erma Bombeck

Sunday
New Church News We had a wonderful Sunday together on September 27. It was a thrill to have 141 people in worship, and nearly 60 in adult Sunday School to hear Dr. Winston Worrell. His sermon on winning people to salvation in Jesus Christ was inspiring and effective. It reminded all of us that the church exists to proclaim the gospel, and we are the evangelists! This special Sunday gave us a taste of what November will be like, when on November 8 the CUMC congregation comes to be with us for good. There’s a lot to do to get ready! We’ll have to make some adjustments in most every area of church life, and we’ll get a great head start because of all the things we have in common as sister UMC congregations. Nominees for the new church council, to become active in November, include: Bob Jackson, Harvey Hightower, Kelly Smith, Mike Brown, Linda Farley, Sarah Lyons, Judy Crawford, Frank Daniel, Jacqui Geraci, and Darrell Cook. Nominees for the new church Trustees include: George Scott, Sandy Hilton-Jacob, Ed Peterson, Carol Singletary, Chris Wagner, and Corey Morse. The Naming Committee includes Faith members Sandy Hilton-Jacob, Tamara Wagner, and Steve Horte. They and three people from CUMC will consider a temporary name for our combined churches. This will facilitate our finances, decision-making, evangelism, and fellowship. A real and permanent name will come later, so that it can be shaped by the input of the new pastor as well as the location that is selected. We will select a temporary name at the Charge Conference on October 11, 5:30 pm, at Faith UMC. Trustees at both churches are working on cleaning out and taking inventory. CUMC will hold an estate sale. Finance and SPR committees of both churches have met together to estimate the 2016 budget and staffing needs. The staff at both churches will be paid until the end of 2015, and will share or rotate in worship from November until the end of December. The new church council will revise job descriptions, post positions, and hire for growth, which means anticipating as best we can what skills are needed in a new church. From January until June, Rev. Jenny and Rev. Larisa will serve together. This will mean alternating in leading worship and sharing in pastoral care. It will be our goal to come to know and love all the church members, and to share with the community the good news of what our church is doing. We will work hard together to make sure the church is strong, healthy, and excited about the next steps in 2016.
Zoning Progress for CUMC
The developer met with CUMC members and neighborhood people on Tuesday September 29. Several Faith
UMC members were in attendance. The proposed plans include an upscale senior living complex, some
townhomes, and a market place. Groundwater runoff will be handled by underground vaults; traffic impact will be
minimal; it should not increase attendance at Teasley Elementary; an intersection will be reshaped for better
traffic flow. The developer sees it as a pleasing way to transition from high-rise corporate in the 285 vicinity to
single family homes. The greenery and trees that presently border the property will likely remain.
The Cobb County Board of Commissioners will address the zoning in two events. First, the Planning Commission
will meet on November 3 (9 a.m. second floor, 100 Cherokee St, Marietta). Second, the Commissioners will meet
November 17.
See our church website, under Cumberland Proposal, for a list of County Commission members. Our responses
are encouraged.

How is being
a Christian
like being a
Pumpkin?
God picks you from the
patch, brings you in, and
washes all the dirt off of
you. Cuts off the top and
scoops out all the yucky
stuff. He removes the
seeds of doubt, hate, greed,
etc...and then He carves
you a new smiling face
and puts His light inside of
you to shine for all the
World to see.
