The odd one out was plastic! Did you guess correctly?
All these objects are made from natural materials.
Wood, stone, chalk, wool and silk are all found in
nature.
Plastic is a man-made material. You do not find plastic in nature.

Natural materials, such as wool, wood and stone, can be used to make objects. Sometimes changes have to be made to the materials to make them useful but the material stays
the same. Wood and stone can be carved and polished to
make into useful objects.
Wool, cotton and silk can be spun into thread, dyed
and then woven into fabric.

Even though these materials have been changed a little, a wooden toy is still made of wood and a cotton T-shirt is still made from cotton. This means the objects are still
made from natural materials.
However, sometimes a material can be changed to make a new material. We call these materials man-made materials. Plastic, for example, is made from oil through a special process. Once the oil has
been changed into plastic, the material is no longer natural as it
has been altered.

Other man-made materials include paper and glass. Paper is made from wood. The bark is removed from the wood and the wood is then turned into pulp by machines. The
pulp is then turned into paper.
Glass is made from sand. The sand is heated until it is molten. Chemicals are added and then the
liquid sand can be poured or moulded into the shape it needs to be
for the purpose.
