ALPINE, Utah You could call this "Purple" prose. Yes, there isplenty of good news coming from the folks who recently brought usthe Purple Bed.
Brothers Tony and Terry Pearce, who founded Purple, are beddingveterans who have been specializing in gel bedding designs overthe years. Their new Purple Bed is now generating plenty of interestonline, thanks to a clever video that is racking up impressive viewingtotals (more than 2 million views, and rising) on YouTube andFacebook.
In the video, “Goldilocks” compares Purple’s cushioning effectivenessversus the competition with “The Raw Egg Test,” seen in this screen shotfrom the opening moments of the video:
Purple lets a massive piece of glass, weighing 330 pounds, with raweggs adhesively bonded to the bottom, fall from a height of three feetonto the Purple Bed and the eggs don’t break, as seen in this close upfrom the video:
The egg test shows how pressure points can be eliminated at the sametime that broader surfaces are fully supported, so that soft and firm can
indeed coexist in the same mattress, Tony Pearce said.
Purple subjects its competitors to the same test. Yes, they get egg on their faces … er, their beds.
Competitors’ beds featuring memory foam, springs with pillow tops, and air chambers are tested and each one fails the rawegg test, with all four eggs breaking, Tony Pearce noted.
He said the Purple Bed video was a major production (about 25 people wereon set for several days) by the Harmon Brothers company, based in Provo,Utah, which also created Purple’s brand treatment and web site. HarmonBrothers has recently successfully launched other consumer Internetproducts such as Orabrush, Squatty Potty, Poo Pourri, and VidAngel.Squatty Potty’s YouTube video has been dubbed “The Greatest Viral Ad inInternet History,” with 66 million views.
Purple recently launched its new web site: www.OnPurple.com. The site,which features the “Goldilocks and the Three Beds” video, is a full ecommerce site, where consumers can buy the Purple Bed, and Purple’s fullline of seat cushions.
Business is booming at Purple’s 90,000 square foot factory in Alpine, the Pearces said.

While I offer my congrats to most any success in our industry I wonder why
the Pearce brothers didn't place such marketing efforts behind their previous
offerings to the industry? Candidly, the feels of column wall gel aren't all that
great in my opinion, but this marketing certainly is. I predict that they will
experience a pretty high return rate given the different feel that column wall
gel offers. It's a shame that these efforts weren't poured into their previous
brands to help direct all those views and postive feedback into retailers doors.
They would have sold the mattress for the same price, possibly more, minus
all the logisitics they now must deal with at the direct to consumer level. But
in the end this is very smart marketing and very slick production value. Kudos
to you!

C.T.'s MoustacheThe mattress is honestly AMAZING. I haven't come across many
people that haven't liked it. So I don't think they are getting massive
returns. On the contrary, actually. Their business seems to be
booming. I believe they are working on developing sneakers insoles
now, which I will be buying lol. Best mattress I've ever purchased!!!
