JAMMU, Sept 21: Interna-tional Centre for Cross CulturalResearch and Human ResourceManagement (ICccR & HRM),University of Jammu, todayorganized a case based interac-tive workshop for the students,research scholars and facultymembers from across theFaculty of Business Studies, JU.

Professor Manoj Anand fromManagement DevelopmentInstitute (MDI), Gurgaon, wasthe resource person for theworkshop. This workshop hadbeen organised with the objec-tive to train the participants whowish to engage themselves inresearch and case writing, whichis a fundamental tool for learn-ing through doing.

Professor Manoj Anand,during the workshop, discussedan array of case-studies rangingfrom corporate ethics to projectmanagement and encourageddivergent thinking amongst theparticipants. The participantsalso indulged in immense brain-storming and elucidated theirperspectives about the cases.Professor Manoj highlightedthat by the adoption of case-based methodology in a class-room setup, higher level of cog-nitive learning is observed andparticipants move beyond therecall of knowledge to analysis,evaluation and application. Heencouraged the students tounderstand the significance of

case based teaching methodolo-gy as a facilitator to interdisci-plinary learning and a tool toestablish the connect betweenspecific academic topics andreal-world societal issues andphenomena.

JU Vice-Chancellor Profes-sor R D Sharma, who was alsopresent there, expressed satisfac-tion with the kind of initiativesthat are undertaken at theInternational Centre towards theholistic development of the stu-dents. He appreciated the contri-butions of Professor NeeluRohmetra, Founder formerDirector, ICccR & HRM andcurrently Director, IIM, Sirmaurfor bringing the true internation-al orientation of the department.He also lauded the efforts ofProfessor Deepak Raj Gupta,Director, ICccR & HRM, forensuring quality, professional-ism and value creation throughsuch endeavours.

Earlier, Professor DeepakRaj Gupta, during his address,discussed the need for holdingsuch a workshop at ICccR &HRM, JU. He said that the case-based approach not only acti-vates the thinking process butenables in bridging the gapbetween theory and practice.

The workshop was attendedby the students, research schol-ars and faculty members fromICccR & HRM, Department ofCommerce and School ofHospitality and TourismManagement, JU.

The holy town donned a fes-tive look as tableaus depictingspiritual and cultural heritage ofthe State passed through its ever-busy roads. The beautifullydecked up Jhankis depicted thenine forms of Maa Durga.

Minister for PHE, Irrigationand Flood Control Sham LalChoudhary inaugurated this year'sNavratra festival by taking part inthe Shobha Yatra from AsiaCrossing. Minister of State forTourism Priya Sethi and Ministerof State for Finance Ajay Nandaalso participated in the ShobhaYatra which culminated at BusStand.

During nine day festival, thevisiting devotees would witnessseries of Shobha Yatras, PrabhatPheris, Mata ki Kahani, Ramleela,All India Devotional SongCompetition, poetic eventGuldasta, wrestling competition,folk festival and cultural pro-grammes.

In his address, ShamChoudhary said that Governmentwould make every effort to attractmaximum pilgrim tourists for thismega event. "For improved facili-ties and adding more festivity to

the event, this year theGovernment has increased thebudget for the festival to Rs 70lakh", he added.

He said taking the tourists toother potential places of Jammuregion would remain the mainfocus of the Government, addingthat border tourism is also beingpromoted at Suchetgarh in a bigway.

While addressing the gather-

ing, Priya Sethi said that this year'sfestival would lay special focus ondiverting the visitors to other spotsof Jammu region.

"To this end, the TourismDepartment has formulated a cali-brated package to woo the pil-grims to other spots of Jammuwhich offer captivating naturalbeauty, attractions for adventurelovers, water sports like raftingand many other attractions," sheasserted.

She said Mansar, Surinsar,Patnitop, Sanasar and numeroushistorical shrines in the adjoiningdistricts have huge potential.These are being showcased for thetourists under this package, sheadded.

She said the thrust has alsobeen laid on to present the diverseand rich cultural heritage of theState to the visitors through seriesof events. She said the tourismbeing the mainstay of State's econ-omy is receiving special focus of

the Chief Minister, particularly inmaking Jammu as an independenttourism destination.

Ajay Nanda said that Navratrafestival has emerged as a majorevent of north India and witnessesfootfall from across the world. Hesaid the Government has laid spe-cial focus on development ofamenities in the holy town ofKatra for the convenience of lakhsof pilgrims coming here everyyear.

SRINAGAR, Sept 21: In amove towards the digitizationof judiciary, the first paperlesse-court in the State was inau-gurated today at High Courthere.

The court will start func-

tioning from Monday and willuse digitized case recordsthereby bringing down paperand space required to maintainthe records.

Chief Justice of J&K HighCourt, Justice Badar DurrezAhmed, while inaugurating thee-court project said it will helplitigants as well as advocates toknow the status of differentcases speedily.

Justice Durrez thankedChief Secretary, B B Vyas forthe quick response and provid-ing timely funds for the com-pletion of the project; whichtook only four months toaccomplish.

The e-court would provide

an electronic case list (e-caselist) before the presiding judgeto make digital noting on acomputer that has electroniccase records. The case recordsand notings would be synchro-nized in the available database.

"Digitization of recordswill help to keep our records

up to date as well as therecords will not vanish becauseof natural disasters like we wit-nessed earlier in 2014 floods,"he said.

On the occasion, JusticeAlok Aradhe, informed the par-ticipants that 3.25 crore ofpages are in progress to be dig-itized.

Justice Ali MohammadMagrey presented the vote ofthanks at the end of the func-tion.

Number of Dengue cases inJammu region reaches 88

JAMMU, Sept 21: The totalnumber of Dengue cases inJammu region has reached to 88with maximum number of 77people affected with this vector-borne disease only in Jammu dis-trict.

According to official sourcesas on today, a total of 778patients were tested for Dengueout of which 88 cases were foundto be positive and reports of 450were found negative while resultof 240 samples are still awaited.“No death has been reported dueto Dengue so far”, they added.

Elaborating more, sourcessaid that out of 88 Dengue cases,maximum 77 have been reportedin Jammu district, two each inSamba, Kathua, Rajouri andUdhampur districts and one eachin Poonch, Kishtwar and Doda

districts. They further revealedthat out of these 88 denguepatients, 63 were adults (37males and 26 females) and 25were children (13 males and 12females).

They said that so far Denguehas not claimed any life inJammu region and most of thepatients affected with the diseasehave returned to their home aftersuccessful treatment in varioushospitals.

The sources said that HealthDepartment is taking all neces-sary measures to prevent thespread of Dengue. “The maincause of Dengue is stagnantwater and the department isspreading awareness among themasses to prevent stagnation ofwater. The department has alsosensitized its staff and Ashaworkers to combat the disease”,they added.

JAMMU, Sept 21: HighCourt today issued notices toProf R D Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, University ofJammu, Dr Meenakshi Kilam,Registrar and Prof JigarMohammad, Dean ResearchStudies (DRS) in a contemptpetition filed by a PhD Scholar inthe discipline of Sociologynamely Juhie Mohan askingthem to file statement of factsbefore next date of hearing.

When the contempt petitionfiled by Juhie Mohan came upfor hearing Advocate SheikhShakeel Ahmed appearing for thepetitioner submitted that on July26, 2017 the High Court hadquashed Agenda Item No.12dated November 18, 2014 andthe decision of Dean ResearchStudies dated November 8, 2016whereby the claim of the peti-tioner for change of her statusfrom whole time PhD Scholar topart time PhD Scholar wasrejected.

"The court after threadbareadjudication in the matter hadconcluded that the case of thepetitioner Juhie Mohan deservesconsideration under proviso toStatute 13 of the Statutes govern-ing PhD and it was also held thatthe fresh orders with regard tothe petitioner be passed on theanalogy of two similarly situatedscholars namely Asha Rani andUsha Sharma", Advocate Ahmedsaid, adding "a specific findingwas returned vide Judgmentdated July 26, 2017 that Statute

8(a)(iv) of Statutes governingPhD has no applicability to thecase of the petitioner".

He argued that despite allow-ing of the writ petition, the DeanResearch Studies University ofJammu vide orderNo.RA/17/2642-44 dated August28, 2017 rejected the claim of thepetitioner on the ground that thecase does not fall in any of thecategories as envisaged underStatute 8(a)(iv) and also on theground that the case of the peti-tioner Juhie Mohan is distin-guishable to other two scholarsnamely Asha Rani and UshaSharma.

"Dean Research Studies hasoverreached the directions of thecourt and despite clear cut find-ings has rejected the claim of thepetitioner for change of her statusfrom whole time PhD scholar topart time PhD scholar on thesame grounds when JammuUniversity had earlier vide orderNo.RA/16/4678-82 datedNovember 8, 2016 rejected theclaim of the petitioner", thecounsel for the petitioner said.

After considering the sub-missions of Advocate S SAhmed, Justice B S Walia issuednotices to Prof R D Sharma,Vice-Chancellor, University ofJammu, Dr Meenakshi Kilam,Registrar and Prof JigarMohammad, Dean ResearchStudies (DRS) requiring them tofile their statement of facts.

The members of delegationpointed out that ever since theprocess of Uranium supply toIndia began over two years ago,there has been a mutual rein-forcement of collaboration andthe Canadian authorities werekeen to put forward certain pro-posals for value addition in thiscollaboration. Prison Deptt starts e-PrisonManagement System

SRINAGAR, Sept 21: In a bid to digitize the data related toinmates, e-Prison Management System has been started in all thejails of the State.

The development happened after meeting of representatives ofNIC, JakeGA, Superint-endent Jails of the Valley and senior offi-cers of the Prisons Directorate was held under the chairmanship ofDGP Prisons S.K. Mishra.

During the meeting various issues in the operationalization ofthe software were discussed threadbare. DGP informed that thesoftware will computerize and integrate all activities related toprison and prisoners management in the first phase and in the sec-ond phase sharing of information regarding the prisoners amongstvarious jails and other components of Criminal Justice System willbe taken up.

DGP stressed on proper training of prison staff in handling thesoftware. He also asked JaKeGA to cover newly commissionedSpecial Jail (Correctional Home) at Pulwama and ICS MishriwallaJammu.

Various suggestions were made by the Superintendents for cus-tomization of the software for J&K State.

SRINAGAR, Sept 21: Armytoday paid tribute to a soldierkilled when Pakistani troopsopened fire on an army patrolalong the Line of Control (LoC)in Keran sector.

A day after rifleman RajeshKhatri (27) was killed, represen-tatives and officials of theGovernment and other securityagencies also joined the Army topay tribute to the martyr in asolemn ceremony at Badam-ibagh Cantonment, a defencespokesman said.

Cabinet Ministers AltafBukhari and Chander ParkashGanga joined Chinar CorpsCommander Lieutenant GeneralJ S Sandhu in paying their lastrespects.

The spokesman said Khatrisuffered bullet injuries in cross-border firing while he wasdeployed at a forward post inKeran sector. He was providedimmediate first aid and evacuat-ed from the post but he suc-cumbed to the injuries.

The soldier had joined theArmy in 2011 and was fromTorayan village in Dailekh,Nepal. He is survived by hiswife, parents and an elder broth-er, the spokesman said.

He said the mortal remains ofKhatri were flown to Varanasi,UP, for last rites and would belaid to rest with full militaryhonours.

In this hour of grief, theArmy stands in solidarity withthe bereaved family of the mar-tyr and remains committed totheir dignity and well being, thespokesman said.
