EHEF INTRODUCTION
Background
Europe has been one of the leading study and research destination for international students, offering both cutting-edge education and value for money. European Higher Education Institutions offer high academic standards, a great variety of international degree programs, advanced research facilities and the most impressive diverse cultures, languages and societies. Those have been the reasons for hundreds of thousands of foreign students each year to study in Europe. Studying in Europe is not merely enable students to have access to high quality education and academic standards, students are also able to experience how academic excellence, innovation, tradition, and diversity exist side by side in Europe. Students will be having an opportunity to enhance their multicultural skill, aside from their academic skill.
Currently, EHEF Indonesia has been the biggest and most awaited annual education fair in Indonesia. Following the success of 7 previous EHEFs, the EHEF Committee and Delegation of the European Union to Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam presents the 8th European Higher Education Fair in Indonesia that will accommodate the information delivery on studying in Europe as an alternative destination to pursue excellent quality of higher education for Indonesian students and professionals. The prospective students will be able to discuss study plans directly with representatives of more than 150 European universities/institutions in Jakarta, 100 in Yogyakarta and 90 in Surabaya, who come to Indonesia specifically to meet potential Indonesian students.
This year EHEFs were held in 3 cities, Yogyakarta, 2 November 2016; Jakarta, 5 - 6 November 2016; and Surabaya, 8 November 2016.
Objective of the EHEF
EHEF was established to provide opportunity for prospective Indonesian students and academicians to know more about European higher education institutions and to pursue their education at dedicated universities. Every year there has been an increasing number of more than 20% Indonesian students continuing their study in Europe. In 2015, more than 5,000 Indonesian students departed to Europe joining a total of 9,000 Indonesian students studying in Europe. During EHEF, the students will also have the knowledge that The EU and its Member States also provide around 1,600 scholarships for Indonesian students annually. Moreover, for self-financed students, many European universities offer modest tuition fees and in certain cases they may be waived altogether, thanks to the governments of European countries who provided subsidies and/or scholarships. In addition, this event was also dedicated to facilitate the collaboration between HEIs in Europe and Indonesia, with the focus on improving the quality of education in Indonesian HEIs.

Venue
EU Workshop on Erasmus+
To support and enhancethe cooperation between education institutions in both continents, a Networking Event was organized a day prior to EHEF Indonesia 2016 that were attended by the representative from Indonesian Higher Education Institutions and European Higher Education Institutions.
In 2016, EU Delegation to Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam organised 3 workshops which were held in Jogjakarta on 1 November 2016, Jakarta on 4 November 2016, and Surabaya on 8 November 2016. These series of workshop were in relation with the implementation of the EHEF Indonesia 2016 in those cities. The Erasmus+ programme, which runs from 2014-2020, provides funding opportunities for cooperation among European countries and between European countries and Partner Countries throughout the world. However, the participation number of Indonesian higher education institutions / universities / research institutions in the Erasmus+ programme and Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) is still lower than other Asian countries in particular China, India, and Vietnam. One of the reasons for low participation number was due to unfamiliarity with these programmes and the requirements for participation. Therefore, it was considered necessary to organise Erasmus+ and MSCA workshops in order to disseminate information on these funding opportunities, to encourage future partnerships and proposal applications.
The workshop facilitator were Dr. Graham Wilkie, Deputy Head of Unit for International Cooperation, DG Education and Culture (EAC), European Commission, Brussels, Belgium and Ms Destriani Nugroho, Programme Officer, the EU Delegation to Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam.

Visitors
As the previous EHEFs mechanism, the visitors who would like to come to the fair should register online. In total we received 22,652 online registration during the registration period. EHEF Indonesia 2016 were concluded in 3 cities, with a total Visitor of 20,229. Following are the detailed visitor number per city, EHEF Yogyakarta: 6,041, EHEF Jakarta: 9751, EHEF Surabaya: 4,437. It means 89% turn in rate.
The number of visitors in Jakarta and Jogjakarta were lower than 2015. We faced a weather condition in Jogjakarta; it was raining heavily for more than 1 hour. While in Jakarta, there was a big demonstration in the city center on Friday, which resulted people became reluctant to go out.
