consumption is attributable to
refrigeration.*
By far the single biggest energy
consumer in a supermarket is the
refrigeration system.

Significant reduction of the CO2 footprint
The best way to minimize the effects of refrigeration on the
environment is to save energy. Very specific criteria dictate the
complexity of refrigeration systems. We consider three steps
in implementing a complete system so as to achieve the best
performance with the lowest energy consumption:
1. Parameters and components are selected in such a way that no
more energy is consumed than is needed.
2. Installation and commissioning demand utmost precision to
guarantee optimal operation per the design requirements.
3. Continuous service keeps performance and energy consumption
at the optimum level over the entire life cycle of the refrigeration
system.
Energy energy saving – over the entire life cycle
Efficiency sustained performance – in temperature, food quality & energy efficiency
Environment significant carbon footprint reduction – for the entire refrigeration system
e*cube is the ‘energy, efficiency, environment’ enhancement measures for all our goods and services: refrigerated display cases,

Energy saving features
Carrier created a comprehensive package of
energy saving components such as energy
saving EC fans or Dual-speed EC fans,
electronic ballast, glass lids or glass doors,
partial glass lids, anti-mist glass doors or
front glazing and consequently optimized
control system. Additional energy-saving
features such as LED lighting and night
blinds can be also delivered. Another benefit
is from a lower refrigeration load allowing
for a smaller sizing of the whole refrigeration
system and factory optimized cabinet
control.
Our experts advise
There can be no standard answer to design
an energy-efficient refrigeration system.
Customer requirements, ambient conditions
and other constraints are much too varied.
In the early stages of planning discussions
with customers, our experts take into
consideration the parameters that are critical
for optimal operation. They take a close look
at key elements such as the location of the
machine room, the position of the condenser
and the selection of the display cases. They
match the customer requirements with the
latest developments in our product portfolio.

Insulated glass doors or lids* prevent cold air from escaping, guarding against the occurrence of cold aisles in front of the cabinets. Simultaneously,
entry of outside air into the cabinets is prevented, which extends the efficiency of the evaporator and reduces the need for defrost cycles. This
protects the goods and significantly reduces inventory shrinkage, while allowing for excellent visibility. EC or dual speed EC fan motors* are
included as standard with e*cube. Energy saving canopy, shelf or handrail LED lighting* is available as option from the extensive range of
accessories, offering additional potential for energy saving. In addition, the lower refrigeration load simultaneously allows for significantly smaller
sizing of the complete refrigeration system.

The freezers are equipped with energy saving non-heated triple glazed doors. This yields following advantages: Firstly, the usual heating of the external
pane can be dispensed with. Heat-reflecting coatings on the centre and internal panes as well as a special gas filling between the panes ensure that
they are free from condensate and dry on the customer side at all times. This lowers the energy and refrigeration load. Secondly, the polymer coating on
the internal pane reliably keeps the pane clear visibility after opening. The coating absorbs the humidity in the ambient air and prevents fogging. Lastly,
glass lids on the chest of the Vantis cabinet bring an extra energy saving and improved temperature stability. Electronic fans save additional energy.
Alternatively, e*cube cabinets improved temperature stability, keeping the ambient air effectively away from the merchandise.
Energy saving EC fans save additional energy. As an option, all cabinets can be equipped with LED illumination. In addition, the lower refrigeration load
simultaneously allows for smaller sizing of the complete refrigeration system.
