Maria Vassilakou City of Vienna, Vice Mayor The city of Vienna is proud to host the fourth European Cycle Logistics Conference. I am sure you will enjoy the fantastic programme of speakers and events, that have been organised for you. Cycle logistics forms an important part of our ambitious Smart City Strategy, which aims to create a carbon neutral transport future in our city. This year Vienna has a strong focus on cargobikes and is launching some exciting initiatives to promote usage to both businesses and residents alike. I hope you enjoy the conference and please make sure to find some time for cycling and walking through our great city!
Martin BlumCity of Vienna, Cycling Coordinator On my ride into work, it’s a great feeling to see the rising number of cargobikes cycling through our city every day. At the Vienna’s Mobility Agency, cargobikes are one of our main priorities this year, including free test riding sessions all over the city. A few days ago we launched a cargobike subsidy scheme for all citizens of Vienna and now we host this event at the former imperial horse stables. I wish all of you an interesting and inspiring conference. Have a great time in Vienna and enjoy your stay!
richard Armitagedirector, european Cycle Logistics federation Welcome to the largest ECLF conference and exhibition on cycle logistics. Our earlier events - Cambridge, UK (2012), Nijmegen, NL (2014), San Sebastián, ES (2015) - doubled in scale each time; in Vienna in 2017 the event has more than doubled. We are witnessing significant growth in cargo bike use and cycle logistics. Growth brings with it “growing pains”. Technically, we need better and stronger cargo bikes and trikes; digitally, integrated data sharing plat-forms are essential to make cycle logistics efficient and cost effective; economically, we need strong businesses operating cycle logistics to ensure growth can continue and all our staff are paid properly; socially, we need municipal government to make the cargo bike welcome, enabling family and domestic use through cargobike friendly infrastructure, parking, training and loan schemes. None of this is to make false claims about our sector: we are not the solution to congestion, poor air quality, urban noise, and carbon-dependent transport, but we are most definitely part of the solution. After Vienna, we hope you can return home confident. It is practical to change your world with the humble cargo bike.

european Cycle Logistics federation (eCLf)ECLF is the professional body that supports cycle logistics businesses, informs about the potential of cycle logistics and lobbies policymakers. It is a membership organisation, with over 150 members.
The aims and objectives of the Federation include highlighting best practice, sharing knowledge and experience, establishing a lobby group(s) to influence relevant stakeholders, identifying oppor-tunities for shared promotions, marketing and costs and establishing appropriate information resources.
The central intent of the Federation is to develop and help implement a strategy for transferring as much as possible of the freight/goods being moved within the urban environment in Europe, from motorised vehicles to bicycles, cargo bike & trikes. In addition, it will support any business or social enterprise which uses or intends to use a bicycle to deliver its operations or services.
To date, ECLF has delivered four international conferences, many training workshops for new cycle logistics operators and municipal councils (with the support of the EU-funded CycleLogistics Ahead Project), and two surveys of Europe’s cycle logistics sector.
During the Conference, please find Gary Armstrong, Richard Armitage or Susanne Wrighton, to discuss the ECLF’s future and your part in it.
