Ex-offenders and EmploymentEx-offenders and Employment
Reentry into the labor market is one of the most challenging situations an ex-offender faces when returning to the community. Yet research consistently indicates that providing ex-offenders with the skills necessary to be self-sufficient, contributing members of society is a proven link to stopping the cycle of re-offending.
To assist individuals in finding a job, Oriana House provides employment services including a job skills training program. Employment services may be available to Oriana House clients as well as ex-offenders in Summit and Cuyahoga counties.
Oriana House is a private, non-profit agency that has been providing community corrections and chemica l dependency treatment services since 1981.

Moving Toward Employment Summit County
Through the Moving Toward Employment program, ex-offenders living in Summit County and Oriana House clients in need of employment services are given case management, assessments, job training, and opportunities that can help them identify and address barriers to employment. Oriana House’s comprehensive services help individuals with a criminal conviction prepare to become reliable, self-sufficient, and responsible members of our community.
Employment aftercare classes are also available to address any issues that an individual may face once he or she is working.
ServSafe-intensive services
T h e S u m m i t C o u n t y Department of Job and Family Services and Oriana House have partnered t o p r o v i d e
the ServSafe program to train and certify individuals to work in the food service industry.
EmploymentServices
Employment Readiness Center Summit County
Staff at Oriana House’s Employment Readiness Center (ERC) in Akron work with clients and assist them in finding and maintaining long term employment.
T h e E R C i s equ ipped wi th a computer lab, resume software, internet access, telephones, and a job lead board to
help clients with their job search. Staff members are available to assist clients by providing assessments and case management.
Staff rely on the assessment and an interview with the client to identify barriers to employment and determine programming needs and the client’s interests and skills. Referrals are made to on-site workshops that address resume writing, interviewing, and using e-mail and internet. Clients may prepare their resumes on site and are provided with professional copies of their resume.
Employment services may be available to Oriana House clients as well as ex-offenders
residing in Summit or Cuyahoga counties.
The comprehensive ServSafe course prepares students to:
• Protect against food-borne illness• Reduce Liability Risk• Minimize Insurance Costs• Improve Food Quality
ServSafe is recognized by more health jurisdictions than any other food safety training program in the United States.
ServSafe may be available to Oriana House clients and ex-offenders residing in Summit County.
New Employment Transitions Cuyahoga County
New Employment Transitions (NET) is a program that serves as a One Stop provider of employment services for residents of Cuyahoga County who are or have been involved in the criminal justice system.
NET is a partnership between Oriana House’s North Star Neighborhood Reentry R e s o u r c e Center (NRRC) and Towards Employment, Inc.
N E T o f f e r s varying levels of assistance with a job search, based on an individual’s need. Assessment tools are used to determine the types of support that are needed to obtain gainful employment. NET services and resources include computer and internet access, individualized counseling, Job Search Booster workshops, Job Search/Job Placement support, GED and technical training, and other employment-related resources.
