Agenda
• Clinical Data Warehouse overview• Associated tools• Process for access• Other research platforms• Analytics resources at Emory• Using clinical data for research
Overview
• Consolidated database for clinical quality, operational decision-making support, and research
• Integrates data from multiple business and clinical applications
• Includes some external benchmarking data
• Primary goal: Provide standardized metrics, filters, and reports to ensure that results are consistent over time, among users, and across the enterprise
Caveats
• Not all data in PowerChart is automatically included in the CDW
• Most free text/note data is unavailable• Data availability can depend on clinical site (i.e. –
ESJH, EUH, etc.)
Additional Information
• Data is updated daily• More than 1,000 users employ the CDW to
collectively run over 250,000 reports monthly• Users have access to listservs to support
announcements and self-service analytics• Analytics Resource Center available for user guides
and training materials• Quarterly Analytics Collaborative for announcements
about projects and enhancements
MicroStrategy
• Accessible via intranet• Allows users to:– Run pre-built reports– Drill down into the data– Create ad hoc queries– Export information– Create subscription reports for automated delivery
• MicroStrategy Web: https://prd-cdw-web.eushc.org/MicroStrategy/asp/Main.aspx
Visual Insight
• Dashboard tool for MicroStrategy• Allows users to:– Join datasets– Create visualizations (bar and line graphs, heat maps, etc.)– Share dashboards with end-users
Access Process
• Lotus Notes request submitted by access coordinator• Select only minimum subject areas needed to
support projects• Must attend one day training• If using for research, additional 30-minute online
training required
i2b2
• Operated and funded by Georgia Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA)
• Open source technology created by Partners Healthcare and used by academic medical centers around the world
• Allows users to query parts of the CDW for patient counts and aggregate information
• Great for feasibility• Maps CDW to standards• IRB approval not required
CRADLE
• Analytics sandbox supporting complex use cases in research and innovation
• De-identified data from the CDW• Data enriched through the incorporation of
additional data sources like Census and GA Death Data
• Hosted in Amazon Web Services (AWS) through AWS @ Emory
• Inquires can be submitted to [email protected]
Emory Healthcare Data Teams
• Decentralized analytics structure • Analysts based in departments or business center:– Emory Clinic– Office of Quality– Nursing Quality– Nursing Informatics
• Remedy tickets to request other reports
