Elements and Principles of Art:Movement and Variety
By: Una and Sarah
How People See Movement in Art• When you see a piece of art that contains dancers dancing, you can almost hear the music flying through your ears, you can see them dancing with the music.
• You can also see movement in action because the piece of art is just frozen in an unstable position.
Movement Can Be Seen in Other Principals and Elements of Art• Artists wanted to show movement in different ways, so they tried using balance.
• Line is used a lot in movement. Using different types of lines can make movement.
The artist is using lines to create the feeling of movement.
• Movement is also shown in repetition
The artist is using repetition to create the cycle of movement.

The Beginning of Movement
• Eadweard Muybridge began movement in art. He tried to paint a painting that was a photo in action. People wondered how can you show movement in a painting when it is literally not moving? • Alexander Calder was
the first artist to create sculptures that actually moved. Eadweard
Muybridge
How Can Movement Be Shown In Art When It Is Not Literally Moving?• Movement can be shown in lots of different ways because everyone sees art differently. • This painting contains movement because the lines on the dress look like they’re falling in the woman’s pose.
Variety
• Variety is the differences in objects that intrerest to a visual image.
• It is a combination of the different elements and principles
How to create variety• By using strong contrasts
