Respect, Responsibility, Learning, Co-operation and Participation
19 August 2015 No. 25 (Week 6 Term 3)
Educating Communities
Congratulations to the students’ wonderful support at the Talent Quest and Gold Coin Donation Day in support of Arielle Taylor who will represent NSW at the National Swimming Championships later this year. The funds raised will be used to assist with the large cost for transport, accommodation and participation at this event. I have a number of raffle tickets to be sold ($2 each) which will also help reduce the cost. If you would like to purchase one (or more) of these tickets please send money to Mr Payne. Josie Morley has also been selected to represent NSW at the National Soccer Titles, and we will be holding an event shortly to assist her in her journey. Both these young ladies are fantastic representatives of East Maitland Public School and we should celebrate their achievements and support them as much as possible! Following is an email that I received regarding our boys Touch victory last week, and is typical of the response we often receive when participating in the PSSA Knockout competitions. Congratulations boys & Mr Taylor.
Dear Ian Foulstone Yesterday our school, Muswellbrook Public played your boys touch football team. I would like you to pass on my congratulations to the boys and Sam. Sam was very easy to work with and the boys were a delight. They played the game showing great sportsmanship and are a credit to your school. Obviously Sam is a very positive influence on the boys. Our school would like to wish the boys all the best for future games. I am aware of several students who have siblings that are eligible to apply for Kindergarten enrolment in 2016, yet have not done so. Our numbers are climbing quickly and we are about to begin our Orientation/
Transition program so it is imperative that we have all students enrolled as soon as possible. If you have not contacted the school yet, could you please do so immediately. Regards, Ian Foulstone Principal

A Big Thank You Our students are loving the new iPads in the library! Many thanks to the parents and grandparents who supported our Book Fair earlier in the year. The profits from this event have helped with the purchase of these iPads. Thanks also to our P&C for their generous pledge to assist in the purchase. Book Week Just a reminder that Book Week is next week! All students have been invited to the following performances: Monday 24th- a visit from Maitland library to showcase the 2015 shortlisted books. Friday 28th- Perform Educational Musicals will sing, dance and dramatically showcase some of the shortlisted books. Monday 31st- A visit from author/illustrator Michael Salmon who will entertain and captivate the students with the way he writes and illustrates his books, added to this, some lucky students will have their stories illustrated and caricatures done! Please return your $10 and permission note to your classroom teacher to make sure you don’t miss out. Colouring Competition entries should also be handed in by Friday 21st August. The Great Book Swap Challenge To celebrate Indigenous Literacy Day and to raise money for children in remote communities, who don’t have access to books, we are participating in the Great Book Swap challenge. The challenge works like this: 1. Students choose a book from home that they no
longer want, checking with mum or dad first 2. Students bring the book (maximum of 2) into the library from Wednesday 26th August in return for a book token (1 token per book) 3. On Wednesday the 2nd September we will hold our book swapping challenge through lunch 4. Students present their token(s) and $2 (If students have handed in 2 books they will need 2 tokens and $4) 5. Students will then be able to choose a pre-loved book of their choice 6. All money raised will go to the Indigenous
Literacy Foundation.
The Indigenous Literacy Foundation advocates to raise national awareness in schools, libraries, universities, businesses and the general Australian community, of the many challenges that remote Indigenous communities face when it comes to acquiring basic literacy skills. This should be a great event for our school and students please help support such a good cause. Mrs Hookway Banner Winners Owen Cox, Llewella Brooks and Mackenzie Kirk.

Now the weather is FINALLY getting warmer and the growth spurts are happening, head to the uniform shop for any spring gear you might need. Any old uniforms in good condition would also be GREATLY appreciated by the P&C to sell at a very minimal cost at the uniform shop or to be used by sick bay for unfortunate accidents. Drop them off anytime at the office or uniform shop. We will be asking for volunteers to help with our Great
Fathers Day Breakfast BBQ very soon!
We will be looking for budding BBQ chefs and general
helpers on the morning of Friday 4th September.
We plan to hold a ‘Dads barbie brekky’ , everyone is
welcome and a small stall will be held before school.
Please keep this date free, it will be a great morning!
If you have any questions or queries please email us on
[email protected] and don’t
forget to send in your proud parent moments so we can
