PLANNING AND PREPARATION WI Teaching Standards 1,7 (Conceptualization, Diagnosis)
Teacher Knowledge, Skills, Dispositions Evidence in Your Teaching Your Students Responses
You selected and created learning experiencesthat were developmentally appropriate and
involving to diverse learners.
Your lesson design included clear objectives,
instructional procedures, and methods of
assessment. These elements were clearly linked
to each other.
You prepared your lesson in advance and
sought feedback from your supervising teacher
and cooperating teacher.
You organized and integrated relevant teaching
resources/ materials into your lesson design.
I incorporated reading, mapping, and reading
comprehension into my lesson plan. These different
skills will allow me to reach multiple learning types.
The objective of my lesson was understood by both my
cooperating teacher and by the students.
I prepared my lesson to go with the section the students
were working on in their Social Studies class. I work
with my cooperating teacher to make sure that my
lesson plan was going in order with the rest of the class.
I was organized with the text, read it over and over, and
developed my own set of worksheets to go along with
the lesson.
The students were able to
remember the vocabulary and
information about the Mayas and
Aztecs when they were done with
this lesson. They really responded
well the vocabulary work sheet,
and were excited to talk about the
differences between the Mayan and
Aztec culture.
This self assessment is designed to help
you connect events from your teaching to
broader expectations of professional
teachers. The statements below are drawn
from the Wisconsin Standards for Teacher
Development and Licensure and the

Teacher Knowledge, Skills, Dispositions Evidence in Your Teaching Your Students Responses
You interacted in a positive and sensitive
manner with your students. You were a
thoughtful and responsive listener. You encouraged discussion, listened and
responded to group interaction. You elicited
samples of student thinking orally and in
writing.
You responded effectively and respectfully with
strategies to manage students behavior andattention.
You recognized opportunities to demonstrate
multiple perspectives.
You supported students individual and groupwork.
I made sure that the students felt comfortable when
reading out loud. I also made sure they were able to
comprehend what they were reading. I encouraged the
students to work together when doing the vocabulary
work sheet and the map. On the worksheet they were
also asked to describe the differences between the
Mayans and the Aztecs. This then turned into a nice
discussion between the students.
Since the students had to listen to one another, they were
very respectful of each other. They were quiet while their
classmates were reading.
I supported individual and group work by having us read
together as a class and start the worksheets as a class.
Then I let them go off on their own to complete the two
worksheets.
They seemed to enjoy the
discussion about Mayans and
Aztecs. However I know for a
fact that they really like the
vocabulary worksheet. They said
that they had never received one
of those before, and that it made
it easier for them to understand
the chapter.
The students seemed to like when
I let them work on their own to
draw up their own maps. They
even knew the current names of
the countries one the map.

Teacher Knowledge, Skills, Dispositions Evidence in Your Teaching Your Students Responses
You connected instruction to studentsexperiences.
You presented the lesson objectives clearly and
accurately.
You modeled appropriate strategies in
conveying ideas and information.
You developed student thinking by asking
different levels of questions, encouraging
discussion and/or preparing different kinds of
explanations.
You used some teaching and learning strategies
to engage students.
You adjusted and revised the lesson plan during
instruction based on student needs.
During the lesson we talked about emperors and empires,
I related this topic to the Emperors New Groove. Thismade the concept of an empire very clear to the students.
The lesson was clearly represented by reading the text,
answering the vocabulary, and discussing the Mayans and
Aztecs.
While reading the section I would stop the students andask them comprehension questions about what we just
read. This showed me if the students understood what
they were reading.
The students really understood
the concept of empires and
emperors once I related it to
something they liked. Once they
understood these two terms they
were able to understand the rest
of the vocabulary.

I found out what the students were able to learn by asking
them questions throughout the lesson. I also read over their
vocabulary sheets to make sure they understood the terms.
I was encouraging them when they would answer a question
correctly and when they would map out the Mayans and theAztecs in the correct locations.
The forms of assessments used were taken from the
information in the text.
They seemed to be more
connected to the reading when I
asked them questions while they
were reading. If they knew they
were going to be questioned thenthey seemed to listen closer,
