EBISOAA Culture of Feedback
11/2013 Clinic
Pregame
• “2nd-to-last defender…..” speech – useful?• Explain how you’re really different– Possessive about the penalty area?– Like being called by name?– Picky about substitution handling?
• Talk about the game at hand– What you know about the players– What you know about the coaches– Your approach to this game: tight, flowing, rando
Postgame
• Allot 5-10 minutes to talk about the game• Collegial, not supervisorial• My list of non-confrontational questions:– What signals did we cross or miss?– On this hard foul/PK/yellow card/red card, what
did you see?– What were the player/coach reactions to the
game?
Non-confrontational Feedback
• “You kept looking at your feet” vs “I usually look at my ARs at dead ball situations. If you look back, I can get a better feel for how you think the game is going.”
• “You got the direction wrong” vs “If you’re a little slower with your flag and look at me, I can help you with the direction.”
