21 members braved torrential rain to�attend our August meeting, which was�a very good turn-out considering the�conditions. There was some�discussion about where we should go�for our next outing.�With the cost of the bus hire now so�expensive we have to look at places�not too far from home. Our President�has got information about the Collie�Museum and it sounds very�interesting. The Seniors have said�they will share the outing with us�which is a great help financially to�both clubs. No date has been fixed as�we will want to wait until the weather�improves, but it is something to look�forward to. It was agreed a morning�tea visit to Neil Twaddle’s museum is�definitely on the agenda, but again we�will wait for better weather. Everyone�enjoyed our Christmas in July dinner�at the Waroona Country Café. The�food was excellent and good friendly�service. I’m sure we will go back. After�the meal a presentation was made to�Eileen Doran as a token of�appreciation for her 22 years as�President. Raffles followed and then a�few jokes wound up the proceedings.�It was a very successful event.�The next Pensioners Social Club�meeting is on Wednesday 4�th�

September at 1.30 pm in the Senior�Citizens Hall. We welcome new�members so if you are new to town�and want to meet people give our�meeting a go. I think you’ll find we are�a friendly bunch. If you would like�more information please ring Grace�Lay on 97331950�

I’m often asked what inspires me to�write. I’d have to say anything and�everything. It could be a newspaper�article, a photo, an obituary, an�overheard conversation, an event, a�person. There is no limit to my�imagination.People, their�circumstances, their reactions to life�events, even the area in which they�live, play a pivotal role in story-telling.�All these things help to inspire my�writing.�I was recently driving toward the town�of Harvey and spotted a road sign. It�seemed to have ‘stuck’ and within�days another story was writing itself in�my head. Book number six, perhaps?�I won’t reveal the title just yet. We still need bedding,�school items, toilet accessories and�clothes for Bali. There is a box in the�Library for items for this appeal.�Suzanne will take all the items on 19�th�

Sept. after her talk.�I have 300 knitted squares that need�to be sewn together. If you cannot�

knit or crochet but can sew perhaps�you would love to help. The squares�can be taken home if you prefer�however, you are most welcome to�stay and join us for a cuppa. On 22�nd�

August we had a morning tea to say�goodbye to Mona who comes from�New Zealand to stay with her�daughter. Mona visits us at the library�most Thursdays. The morning tea�was also for Mavis as she is visiting�her daughter for three months from�overseas. Mona demonstrated how�to make a brooch using the old metal�zips.�Ladies are busy knitting more scarves�for St Vinnies and the Salvos for them�to sell in their shops. We still need�rugs for the needy as it has been a�cold winter. July and August have been busy�social months for Quambie Park�Residents and Clients with plenty of�interesting events during the period.�The magic show held Friday the 12�th�

of July was a great success and�shared with special guest from Hocart�Lodge- Harvey, Bedingfeld Lodge-�Pinjarra and the Waroona community�joining the residents at Pam Corker�House it was the event not to be�missed. The audience were dazzled�and amazed by the magician’s tricks�and illusions, a real show stopping�performance. The afternoon was�rounded off with special afternoon tea,�allowing the audience to catch up with�old friends and enjoy some good�Waroona style hospitality. Thank you�to the Pam Corker Lifestyle and�Catering team for making the day a�success.�On a very wet and cold evening of the�26 July 2013, Quambie Park�Retirement Village residents and�Community clients celebrated a�Christmas in July Function at the local�Waroona Senior Citizen Hall. The�evening was a wonderful opportunity�

to enjoy a catered meal of Christmas-�style goodies, some Christmas Carols�and dancing, lots of dancing. The�evening was supported by Quambie�Park Community Services staff who�volunteered their time to make the�evening a rousing success. We are�sure there were a few hoarse voices�the next day after the singing and�laughing. A special thank you is�extended to all of the Community�Services staff for supporting the event�on the night and with the planning.�Snakes alive� - literally as Pam Corker�House hosted a special wildlife visitor�on Monday the 12�th� of August 2013.�The Road Display Group from�Baldivis visited with the residents and�brought with them , a dingo, 2�pythons’ and a cuddly koala. The wild�life staff talked about the animals and�provided plenty of opportunity for�residents to touch and feel theses�amazing animals. Every one of the�residents and the staff loved the koala�as most of them have never seen one�up close before. For the python,�some were a little apprehensive to�touch or hold but as the photos show�others were more than happy for a�python cuddle. This was a wonderful�event and very much a fun and�interactive morning appreciated by�everyone. Well done again to the Life�Style team for arranging such a�different social event.�

Last�month�this�column�looked�at the�updated�livestock�owners�

hip and identification requirements�under the new regulations that came�into force in May. This month’s�column covers livestock movement�under the Regulations. Pastoralists�and other commercial owners will�already be aware of many of the laws�governing livestock. However, rural�residents who own just one or two�stock animals, which they consider�primarily as pets, recreational or�display animals, may not realise that�they must adhere to the same�regulations. Managers and stewards�of agricultural shows and field days�also have legal responsibilities when�accepting livestock on to the grounds�where the event is held.�A letters and numbers game�Livestock being moved for any�reason, including sale, agistment,�breeding or show and competitive�purposes, must be identified and�accompanied by the relevant�movement document. Horses must be�identified but don’t require paperwork.�The owner registration process is�essential as it provides the owner of a�‘livestock’ animal with a unique�Property Identification Code (PIC) and�identifiers to be used on their stock.�Owners of stock need to register even�if they do not own the land where the�animals are kept. The registration�indicates location and ownership of�the animals. The PIC must be shown�on all documentation for any�movement of livestock off the property�or properties registered to the owner�of that PIC.�Moving moments�There are various reasons for�livestock to be moved, ranging from�short-term relocation to reaching the�end of their use. Even small�landholders and people owning just a�

few animals will face these situations�and decisions. Movement may include�transport to saleyards, feedlots, an�abattoir, from one property to another�owned by the same person, to�showgrounds or to a new owner on a�different property. Regardless of the�destination, all stock must be�accompanied by the correct�documentation at every stage of the�movement. The document may be�simply your PIC card for regular�movement of your animals between�properties listed on that PIC card. It�may be a plain waybill where you�provide details of the property of�dispatch and destination together with�proof that the livestock are being�moved with the owner’s consent. A�National Vendor Declaration (NVD)/�waybill is required for sheep, goats or�cattle that are being moved from their�home property to an abattoir,�saleyard, feedlot or a new owner. Pig�owners are required to use the�PigPass NVD. The NVD is a�commercial requirement containing�valuable information for the buyer�regarding livestock treatments and�animal health. It is combined with a�waybill to provide the movement�details of the stock. Whichever type of�movement document you use, it must�show the PIC of the property the stock�are leaving and the PIC of the�destination property. This means that�you cannot buy or sell stock without�both parties being registered stock�owners. NVD waybills are available by�registering with the Livestock�Production Assurance program at�mla.com.au/lpa or by phoning 1800�683 111. Plain waybill books are�available from your local Department�of Agriculture and Food office or by�phoning 9780 6207. Movements of�sheep, goats, cattle and buffalo must�also be recorded on the National�Livestock Identification System (NLIS)�database. The database allows for�rapid identification of stock and�properties during a disease outbreak�or residue contamination. It is the�responsibility of the person receiving�the stock to ensure the database is�

updated (except for stock purchased�in a saleyard). For NLIS database�issues not covered in this column,�please contact the NLIS helpdesk on�1800 654 743 or email�nlis@agric.wa.gov.au� for more�information.�Safety and security�The Regulations aim to protect both�livestock in transit and their owners�against loss, whether by theft or the�straying of animals. Importantly, the�required movement records are vital�to assist during a disease outbreak.�During an outbreak there is an urgent�need to identify the source of the�disease. This is done by tracing all�relevant livestock movements and�identifying other stock they have been�in contact with. For this reason,�inspectors from the Department of�Agriculture and Food and officers�from WA Police can inspect livestock�in transit and check for correct�identification and documentation at�any time. The movement�documentation and database records�are designed to safeguard livestock�health, food safety and the rights of�legitimate owners and traders. I started playing basketball in�Waroona as soon as I was old�enough, my dad, sister and brothers�always played so I was very keen to�get started. I played locally in�Waroona and at country week for all�of my junior years. Country week�carnivals were the highlights of the�season, they were always fun and�enjoyable times and we were lucky�enough to do quite well and win a few�years. After a country week game I�was approached by a man who�introduced himself as the coach for�the Women’s Country state team. I�wasn’t really aware what Nationals for�basketball was, but he explained it all�to me and said he enjoyed watching�me play and wanted me to come try�out. It took a bit of pushing from my�family to go to tryouts as I didn’t know�any of the coaches or other players,�but it was the best decision I ever�made. Since that first tryout, I have�represented Western Australia at the�National Championships four times, at�the under 16’s, under 18’s bottom age�and top age and the most successful�team the under 20’s team where we�came home with a bronze medal. I�would not have been able to achieve�or experience any of this without the�help of the Waroona community. The�coaches and support I received when�I was a young player to help develop�my game and also the sponsorship�from businesses and the community.�Without the generosity of these�people and businesses I would not�have achieved half of what I have,�and I am forever thankful for that.�Early in the year of 2012 I was given�some exceptional news. I had emailed�a few coaches at colleges in America�about possibly attending there school�and playing in the league. I contacted�a Coach at a University in Miami,�Florida and he saw potential in me as�a player and offered me a basketball�scholarship to attend the University as�a student/athlete. This had been a�goal and aspiration of mine for a few�years so I was extremely excited! I�now attend Barry University in Miami,�Florida and play basketball for the�university. Being on a sports�

scholarship does not exempt you from�classes; I attend class every day of�the week and then train 6 days a�week for basketball. College is quite�full on, especially trying to find that�balance for class, homework, training�and games and also a bit of time to�relax and socialise. I attended the�university for one school year and I�have been home on holidays for the�past few months. I fly out to Miami�again at the end of August for my�second year. Although I am sad to�leave my family and friends I am�looking forward to returning for my�second year of playing basketball for�Barry University and starting classes�again.�In order to receive a sporting�scholarship you not only have to be�committed to your sport but also have�good grades. America works with a�grading system called GPA, grade�point average. In order to play�basketball on the team you must have�a minimum GPA of a 2. A 2 is the�equivalent of a C average, so a 3.0�GPA is a B and the highest GPA is a�4.0 which is straight A’s. If a player�was to drop below the required GPA�you could not only be banned from�playing for a period of time but�possibly lose your scholarship, so�keeping up with classes and grades is�a very important aspect of the whole�experience. Being away at college is�a very full on experience, but one I will�not regret and look back on in 20�years from now and be glad I went to�that first ever tryout to play basketball�for Western Australia. Going away on�trips around Australia to play�basketball, touring America and now�playing for a college in America are�some of the highlights of my life. If�anyone has any kind of opportunity�like this I encourage you to take it.�The friendships you make are life�long, and you grow as a person. If you�have a goal whether it be sporting or�education, know that to achieve you�goal is not easy; but if you want it�enough and work hard anything is�achievable. Don’t say no to�opportunity, you do not know what�can come of something until you try.�

BEN ELTON is�known to many�people as the writer�of the television�

shows BLACKADDER, THE YOUNG�ONES and HAPPY FAMILIES, where�he has written for many of his�contemporaries in the entertainment�industry such as Jennifer Saunders,�Rowan Atkinson, Stephen Fry, Hugh�Laurie, Emma Thompson and Robbie�Coltrane. Other people may know him�as a stand up comic but on this�occasion the Book Club will look at�this multi-talented entertainer as an�author of novels.�Elton wrote his first novel STARK in�1989 and his latest TWO BROTHERS�in 2012 and in between has written�another twelve books.�Those Book Club members who read�the latest Two Brothers all enjoyed�the story of the brothers one the�natural born child of their parents who�were Jewish and the other who was�Aryan and adopted into the family and�the choices they had to make as�Hitler’s Armies begin to take over�Europe and much of the story takes�

place in the trenches with this warfare�being bloody and horrific.  The class�system which still existed amongst the�English Army was amusing as it was�evident even at the front line. Readers�found Elton to be an intelligent writer�and felt that this novel really�showcased his talent.�Among the other books read were�MELTDOWN, BLIND FAITH, PAST�MORTEM, CHART THROB and�FIRST CASUALTY they were�received with mixed reactions with�some readers finding them amusing�whilst others didn't like his humour or�in some instances the topic of the�books.�Generally most felt that if his next�books were along the lines of Two�Brothers that they would consider�reading them.�This month we are reading the Young�Adult author MEG CABOT who is an�American writer of romantic and�paranormal fiction for teens and�adults she has written under a�number of names but now writes only�under her own name.�Until next time HAPPY READING.�

Waroona Lions Club�Alcoa Grant�

Recently the�Lions Club�received an�

ACTION grant from Alcoa to upgrade the�surrounds of Jim’s Kitchen. Several�Lions members who work at Alcoa gave�assistance to local concreting expert,�Charlie Dimasi, to concrete the�surrounds of Jim’s Kitchen. Over the�years the verandah area around the�building had become uneven and unsafe�and it was decided to apply for an Alcoa�grant to upgrade it. On the first day the�area had to be dug away and form work�erected. Rain then delayed the pouring�

of the concrete for a day, but any early�risers saw the concrete poured the�following day. Phil Turner drew the short�straw to baby sit the concrete until it set,�but he still managed to be absent long�enough for a local youth to ride his bike�across the edge. Well done, Phil!�Thanks also to Alcoa for the grant.�

Lions Markets Going from Strength to Strength�Since the move from the Walmsley�Pavilion to the Memorial Hall the Lions�Farmers Market have gone from�strength to strength. There was a few�problems with parking at the last one,�since the Football Club had a home�game. For that we do apologise to�anyone who was put off by this, but�there was parking on the highway�opposite the Memorial Hall and to the�south of the Hall. Our next markets will�

Land Urgently Needed for the Lions Driver Education�

Any young person who has been�through the Lions Driver education�Program will always sing its praises.�Over the years the program, which is run�in conjunction with the RAC has taken�many of the Waroona Youth through�their paces and all have benefited.�Unfortunately the land that we have�been using is no longer available and�the program will have to be cancelled�unless we can find a suitable site.�The program is run for one day, three or�four times a year. It requires a fairly�large area about 400 metres long by 50�metres wide. This should be reasonably�flat and preferably gravel or bitumen.�

We heard a story only recently about�a young girl who gave up her place�in a running race to help a friend.�

Our AGM was held in�August and all�committee positions�were filled for a further�

12 months. We are looking forward to�holding a display in the Memorial Hall�at the Waroona Vintage Machinery�Rally on 8 September, so come and�have a look at our photographic�collection, ask us any questions or�bring along any photographs or items�that you think may be of interest.�

Our Facebook page is gaining more�likes and being shared by other sites�like the Waroona Visitor Centre. The�latest album of photographs displayed�on the site are of the Waroona�Speedway and some dust raising�action around the bends. Also�resulting from an enquiry via the site�we have learnt more about the family�of Caroline Beard (nee Crease) who�had travelled to Waroona by train to�spend some time “recuperating” with�the Station Master and his wife, only to�be found dead by the Station Master,�the day after arriving. An inquest�determined Caroline’s death was not�suspicious, however the story that was�passed down through the family was�quite a different one.�

However, kits to�make a doll for your own child or to�send away are available for $5 (a real�bargain) and there are various craft�items to raise money for freight�expenses and support of Zulu�

personnel.�Experience has shown that it costs�almost $2 per doll in freight costs and�considering we have sent�approximately thirty five thousand�three hundred and fifty dolls from the�Perth office and more from Albany�and there are 1.5 million children�under six years old who would love a�doll to call their own. The mind�boggles!�

The Response of the Waroona Veterinary Clinic�

The Cat Act 2011 comes onto force on November 1st 2013�We contacted our local Vet and the local Council for their advice on the enforcement of the�

2011 Cat Act. Here are their responses:�What is the purpose�of the Cat Act 2011?�Our new cat laws are�

about encouraging responsible pet�ownership and reducing the number of�unwanted cats in the community and the�number that are euthanased each year.�The full�Cat�Act�2011�will take effect from�1 November 2013�and will require all�cats that have reached six months of age�to be:- Microchipped; Sterilised; and�Registered with the relevant local�government.�What does this mean for your Cat and�you?�Your cat will be required to wear a collar�and registration tag to ensure they can�be easily identified and returned to you if�they become lost. The legislation applies�to all cats of all ages. If you are�

concerned about your cats age and/or�welfare, your vet can issue an�exemption certificate if sterilising your�cat is likely to have a negative impact�on your cat’s health and welfare.�For Cat breeders:�The legislation requires that a person�who chooses to breed cats must�apply to their local government for a�permit. When a cat is sold or given�away, the seller must ensure the cat�is microchipped and sterilised prior to�transfer. If the cat cannot be sterilised�due to its health or age, the seller�must issue a prepaid sterilisation�voucher to the new owner.�What concessions or assistance�will be available for pensioners or�low income earners?�

The Government has provided�funding to assist and provide low cost�sterilisation for cats owned by�pensioners and people on low�income.�Pensioners will also receive a�discount on registration fees.�Where can I get more information?�For more information, including tips�for being a responsible cat owner,�visit the Department of Local�Government and Communities’�Responsible Cat Ownership web�page at:�http://dlg.wa.gov.au/Content/�Legislation/Responsible�CatOwnership.aspx�

We have been asked our opinion�of the public’s readiness for the�Cat Act coming into full effect in�November. We have not seen any�significant increase in the number�of cats being sterilised or enquiries�regarding sterilisation. We have�seen a small increase in the�number of enquiries regarding mi-�crochipping. It is our opinion that�most of the cats we see for sterili-�sation are brought in by owners�who would have sterilised their�cats anyway regardless of the Act�as they do not want unwanted be-�haviours or litters. These are the�cats we generally see as kittens�for their kitten vaccinations and�then for sterilisation as they get�older. We would think very few of�our clients have only sterilised a�cat because of the Cat Act.�In re-�gards to microchipping we have�seen a small increase in the�number of owners opting for mi-�crochipping their kittens and also�some older cats are being micro-�chipped. We have some excep-�tional owners of multiple cats who�have had all their cats micro-�

chipped. On the flip side quite a�few cats we have sterilised have�not also been microchipped at the�same time. A common consensus�is many residents believe there�will be very little enforcement of�the Act. In terms of affordability a�sterilisation and microchip are pro-�cedures that only need to be done�once in the animal’s life. They are�already very subsidised proce-�dures (case in point - the entire cat�spay operation for a female cat�costs less than the normal price�for an inhalation gas anaesthetic�alone - and this is true for nearly�every veterinary practice in the�country). There are also subsidies�that we provide for clients such as�aged pensioners are given a fur-�ther 10% off the price. In combina-�tion with the Australian Veterinary�Association of WA we have intro-�duced a further $50 subsidy�voucher for those on low incomes�towards the cost of the surgery for�a male or female cat. A require-�ment for that subsidy is that we�provide a free standard microchip�in combination with the AVA sub-�

sidy vouchers (the cost of which we�must absorb as a business). How-�ever this is a very limited scheme as�it has been provided through the�funding from the state government�gained by the AVA of WA from the�grants available to help with the im-�plementation of the Act. This is an�approach many local governments�are taking by seeking this kind of�funding for residents so they can�provide discount vouchers as they�see fit. As a small private local busi-�ness whose prices for these serv-�ices are actually quite competitive�compared to the average there is�only so much we can do to help cat�owners. We receive no funding or�donations to cover any of the ex-�penses incurred. For owners of older�cats there are exemptions under the�act that can be sought on a case by�case basis if it is not in the interest of�the animal to be sterilised or micro-�chipped due to age or illness.�We all�know that Waroona has a problem�with stray cats. The Cat Act is one�way to deal with this problem by�making owners of cats responsible�for them and the local government�

responsible for removing the stray�and feral cats that are not owned.�It is the ‘semi owned’ cats that are�in most need. These are the cats�that may hang around a house�and may have some food left out�for them, but nobody actually�owns. Quite often they are males�that live between several houses�and because nobody really owns�them they are never sterilised or�given routine care such as vacci-�nations, or any flea or worming�treatments. These cats spread cat�diseases and often live horrid lives�as when they are in need they are�often shooed away because a flea�ridden cat with an open abscess�on its flank is no one’s problem. It�can be worse for the females in�the same situation as they often�have litter after litter and have all�the same kind of problems. It is�these cats that need to be target-�ed. If they are loved enough by�someone to be missed they�should be sterilised and micro-�chipped. The level of responsible�cat ownership is actually quite low.�

Waroona Veterinary Clinic’s response - Continued�

Few cats are routinely vaccinated.�We have seen an increase in a�number of deadly cat viruses�(such as Feline Aids) in the area�which could be controlled through�vaccination. So the number of cats�being sterilised or even micro-�chipped as a proportion of cats in�the area is quite low. Even the�AVA discount scheme has had a�very low number of people take it�up.What we would like to see is�some public education for the resi-�dents of the shire to increase�awareness of cat owner’s obliga-�tions. We have written numerous�articles and adverts for this very�publication on the Cat Act and the�benefits of sterilisation and micro-�chipping. To have this backed up�as important and very shortly man-�datory by the Waroona Shire�Council would hopefully help to�improve the rate of cats undergo-�ing these procedures. We would�also like to see the Waroona Shire�Councils plan on housing for the�cats that are picked up under the�act. We are concerned that our�

wonderful rangers will be over-�whelmed with the number of cats�which will now be their responsibil-�ity. We would like to see where the�cats will be housed while they are�waiting to be transferred to the cat�holding facility that will be set up in�Mandurah. How will the cats be�protected from disease and injury�from other cats picked up? What�kind of disinfection regime will be�used between cats housed for�transport? If an owned cat is�picked up it must be protected�from the feral cat carrying cat flu,�Feline Aids or any number of in-�fectious diseases. We are willing�to provide advice to the Shire�Council on any of these veterinary�aspects of the enforcement of the�act.All of us at the Vet Clinic are�here to help. We are more than�willing to answer any questions�that members of our community�have.�

STOLEN VEHICLE USED IN SEVERAL�INCIDENTS�

Officers from South West Detectives, Harvey and Waroona Police�Stations were involved in an incident yesterday which resulted in the�arrest of two males. On 13 August 2013, an orange Holden Commo-�dore was stolen from a home in Sweeting Way, Withers. It is alleged�there were four occupants in the vehicle, a male driver, a male pas-�senger and two female passengers. It is further alleged at about�1:40pm, the car and occupants were involved in a stealing offence in�Brunswick, where a carton of alcohol was stolen from a store. A�short time later the car and occupants were involved in a burglary�offence in Benger, where property including three firearms were�

stolen. Just before 2pm the car was intercepted by Harvey Police and pursued north along the South West-�ern Highway. A stinger device was deployed on the South Western Highway in Wagerup, resulting in three�tyres on the stolen vehicle deflating. Due to the tyre damage the vehicle stopped briefly before driving at a�police officer standing in front of the vehicle. The vehicle continued for a short distance before the driver lost�control and hit another car. The driver and male passenger of the stolen vehicle then attempted to steal this�vehicle before being apprehended by police. A 16 year old boy will appear in the Bunbury Children’s Court�today charged with Reckless Driving, Fail to Stop, No Authority to Drive, Assault to Prevent Arrest and�Aggravated Assault with Intent to Rob. An 18 year old man will appear in the Bunbury Magistrates Court� today charged with Steal Motor Vehicle, Aggravated Burglary, Stealing, Aggravated Possession of Stole�Firearms and Aggravated Assault with Intent to Rob.�

A narrow loss to Pinjarra by 10�points will see them contest the�sudden death first semi final versus�Baldivis this week with the likely�venue to be Anniversary Park at�Rockingham. They have been in the�two positions by a clear margin all�season and it will be a tragedy if they�bow out in straight sets. Third placed�Pinjarra have now registered two�straight wins over Waroona Reserves�which has seen the defending�Premiers fighting to stay alive. Playing�Coach Rocky Caruso aided by�assistants Justin Giumelli, Vince�Vitale and Lindsay Wilson will be�doing their utmost to reverse their�poor form for the last three weeks with�the emphasis on disciplined team�football. It is amazing�how quickly�time flies, here�we are with�the League�Opening Day�on August 31�st�

and our own�Club Opening Day this Sunday,�September 1�st�. Everyone is invited to�play on Sunday, but either Club�colours or whites are required. It will�be round 2 of the War of the Roses�and starts at 1pm.�The first major carnival for the new�season will be the Alcoa Men Split�Fours on Wednesday and Thursday,�September 25�th� and 26�th�. If you are�interested in playing please organise�your team and nominate as soon as�possible.�Once again the Club is having an AFL�Grand Final Day. The Club Bar will�open at 10 am and apart from�watching all the action on the big TV,�there will be many other activities�going on all day. If you enjoy tipping�there will be: The Winning Team�Margin, The First Player to kick a�Goal, The Norm Smith Medal Winner�and several Money Wheels and more.�As we did last year there will be a Pie,�Chips and Hot Dog Stand open all�day. This is really the next best thing�to the MCG�The new Fixtures Books are now�available at the Club, together with�your Membership Cards. Quite a�number of people have already paid�

their membership, but there are still a�few who have not. Just remember on�Friday nights there is a Members�Barrel and all members’ names go�into this when fees are paid. If your�name is picked out of the barrel you�win whatever the prize is at for the�night. It starts at $100, but if the�person whose name is drawn out is�not present at the Club, then it�jackpots by $50 each week. Last�week it had reached $400 and the�person was present. This week it is�back to $100, so if you want a chance�to win the money, make sure you�have paid your fees and go to the�Club each Friday.�Corporate Bowls is having a name�change this year and becoming�Community Bowls. It wont be starting�until October, but now is the time to�be organising your teams. Just�remember that the maximum number�of teams to play is 14, so it will be first�come, best dressed. Forms for the�competition will be available soon at�the Club.�

November will once again bring us the�Melbourne Cup and Waroona Bowling�Club will be THE place to watch the�
