Describing the accelerated thoughts of our scien-
tists by using single and readable sentences the
audience can key into if they get a bit lost in the
complexity of scientific research findings, is the
key role of science journalism.
I understand it can be a scary and difficult
threshold to go in conclave with a journalist in
general, but now more than ever, we need scien-
tists who are prepared to break the silence. To set
neutrality and the fear within,
aside.
Yes…true…Journalists and
Scientists have different roles,
but they share a goal; an in-
formed public! Like you as a
scientist, we are simply search-
ing for the truth! It is our job to
translate the complex research
findings of your intriguing
work and inform the general
public, in an understandable language. This
search for knowledge is in my genes, our genes…
in the genes of mankind globally and it is never
going to be quenched. To understand and use the
scientific language, as a part of today’s civiliza-
tion, requires an open-hearted but downright
communication between science journalists and
scientifically trained people like you.
The general public needs to experience your en-
thusiasm, understand the complexity in your ad-
vanced theories and your work. So, let us science
journalists, help to open that door to the wonder-
land that is science. Let us take your science, sub-
tract your bullet points and your jargon. Let us
divide it by relevance, share with the world what
is relevant, and multiply it by the passion that
you have for this incredible work that you are do-
ing. And that is going to equal incredible interac-
tions that are full of understanding having the
prospect of plural pleasant collisions in the trans-
fer of comprehensible science with the general
public.
We need you…the world needs you…badly!
2014…that was the year I become really in
touch with my inner nerd due the teachings of
the myriad scientists that I was working with.
As I started writing as a science journalist, being
exposed to the inner workings of both profes-
sions, I experienced a bit of what it must have
been like to be Alice in Wonderland. And I was
scared, really scared! I was scared of these super
intellectuals with their big brains, their big books
and their big, unfamiliar
words. But as conversations
and interviews unfolded, I ex-
perienced what Alice must
have when she went down that
rabbit hole and saw that door
to a whole new world playing
with my curiosity. That is just
how I felt as I had those con-
versations with these open-
minded scientists. I was
amazed at the ideas that they
had, and I wanted others to experience this won-
derland as well. I believe the key to opening that
door is great communication. The general public
is desperately in needs for great communication
from our scientists and engineers in order to
change the world. These supper-minds are the
ones that are tackling our grandest challenges,
from energy to environment to health care,
among others. But if the public does not know
about it and does not understand it, then the
work is not done.
I believe it is our responsibility as science jour-
nalists, to have these interactions. It is our task
to blunt the jargon, which is a barrier to many,
into the understanding of progressive ideas and
groundbreaking experiments in new science, and
invite the general public into the wonderland of
science.
Science journalists are making these ideas acces-
sible to the general public which is not the same
as dumbing it down. Instead, as Einstein said,
“Make everything as simple as possible, but no
simpler.”

Complex Research Findings and the General Public

Death Finds a Way or Mud
Chapter 5, The Rubicón
By William John Murray
n hour later, at 11, Elly walked out into the
sun. Her return flight was Thursday, the
next day, and the police had offered to take her to
her hotel, but Elly had no reason to go there, and
the mortuary was closer to the centre of town.
Her feet lead her round the old part of town, fol-
lowing, for reasons she could not have explained,
the route around Santander Lola had outlined.
Her phone soon brought her to the square with
the Ventilador in one corner. At midday it
seemed the most innocent of places. A pair of
businessmen were hav-
ing a coffee, but most of
the tables were de-
serted.
Elly talked to the wait-
ress, but she had not
been there on the Mon-
day night, and nor had
the bartender. She
moved on, trying to
find the restaurant. A
couple of blocks, a cor-
ner, and a main street
was all the directions
she had to go on, and it
took her nearly an hour before she was at the
Sandoñana, but looking inside it was clearly the
right place. It was closed at this time of day, so
she went back to a cafe she had rejected, and
bought herself a hamburger. She sat slowly
munching on it and feeling as if she was getting
nowhere. Afterwards she walked across town to
the Rubićon, where she pushed through the door,
and had a little more luck.
“Hello, I wonder if you can help me.” “Of course,
do you want a drink or something to eat?” the
bartender replied in excellent English. “Oh, nei-
ther. I am trying to trace my father”. Elly wasn’t
sure she meant to say that, but it was out. “Ah,
are you the daughter of the man who was found
in the harbour yesterday? The police were asking
about him. It is sad, very sad. Yes, yes, he was in
the bar here.”
“So what happened? I just want to know.” “Well,
he came in about eleven and he had a drink with
a girl. I am not sure you want to hear this
señorita.” “Go on”. “Well the girl, she was Chi-
nese I think, she must have been about your age.
She was dressed... all very sexy. They were
drinking vodka and orange. I think they had two.
And I noticed they were dancing...well, people are
free to do what they like. But most of the people
here in the evening are young and your father
and this girl made an unusual couple – it’s a big
age gap. But they did-
n’t leave together. I
remember the man
bought a single drink
about 1 am.” “Why,
what happened?” “How
would I know? I just
serve drinks. I think I
told you all I know.”
“Thank you, it’s very
helpful. Oh one other
thing, did you say
there were two Chinese
women, or one?” “Just
one, as I told you.”
Elly wasn’t sure what else to say, so she thanked
him again and walked back out into the street.
The sun was shining brightly, making her blink.
Was it possible the barman had forgotten Shi? Or
was Lola trying to hide something? She remem-
bered the taxi in Boston. Why had they gone to
Shi’s hotel first? She felt uncomfortable, remem-
bering that her father sat in the centre, with her
on one side and Lola on the other. Who’s idea was
that really? She turned a corner and walked
down a road, which descended steeply at first to-
wards the harbour.
The dock where Dad had been found was just a
short walk away, and he must have traced these
steps, before... whatever happened, happened.
But she felt no closer to understanding. This was
the night before his triumph. Surely he didn’t
take his own life? Or had he ...done something

This was where the body had been found, in the
water just below. It was so calm now, so beauti-
ful, it was hard for her to visualize any of the pos-
sibilities: a drunken slip, a suicide, a murder. She
watched the ripples in the harbour lapping at the
wall, but inspiration elluded her. At last she
came to some sort of a conclusion: if the dead
would not talk to her, she should try the living.
She decided to visit the biochemistry conference.

to Lola and couldn’t face himself? Could she have
lied to spare him embarrassment? Why had they
split up? They were staying in the same hotel.
There must have been some sort of disagreement,
mustn’t there?
Elly found herself overlooking the harbour at half
-past two. The Centro Botin hovered over the wa-
ter, its underside dappled with dancing light. The
space-craft like building had only been finished a
couple of months, and gleamed on its stilt-like
legs. Next month; Chapter 6; Javier

n impossible hypothesis is tested
scientifically.
In 2011, an article by the social psychologist
Daryl Bem, "Feeling the future: Experimental evi-
dence for anomalous retroactive influences on cog-
nition and affect." caused a commotion in the sci-
ence community. Daryl Bem showed in a series of
psychological experiments with over 1,000 par-
ticipants that people on average were able to pre-
dict the outcome of future events that could oth-
erwise not be anticipated by “normal” means on
an above-chance level. For example, in one of
these experiments male, heterosexual college stu-
dents had to guess behind which of two curtains,
presented on a computer screen, an erotic photo
was hidden. The chance of guessing the right
door with the stimulating photo lay at 50%.
The participants were able to significantly pre-
dict the right door above chance level, not to a
great extent, but in the statistical terminology
applied in experimental psychology, significantly
so. All but one of nine different experiments in
that article showed this small but statistically
significant above-chance effect. Following this
publication an ongoing debate started about the
possibility or impossibility of precognition, a form
of looking into the future. Were the students
really able to use some information about the fu-
ture (or their own future state), so they could
press the right button?
The discussion of whether these effects are genu-
ine parapsychological effects or artifacts quickly
gets very technical. Psychological theories are not
easily checked or falsified. Therefore, I will try to
summarize this part of the statistically-oriented
discussion that evolved over the past few years.
Individual researchers have voiced their opinion
that regarding parapsychological effects (I am
paraphrasing): "if the statistics show a signifi-
cant effect then the statistics must be wrong."
Accordingly, psychologists like Eric–Jan Wagen-
makers advise the use of a different set of statis-
tical methods called Bayesian analysis. With this
alternative method some of the initially positive
effects indeed had to be discarded. But that is not
the end of the story. There is now a discussion
pertaining to the right use of the Bayesian
method. You see, it is not so much a question of
whether experiments show positive findings, they
often do, but the problem lies in the selection of
the statistical method. It is quite complicated and
not a question of “let’s do an experiment and see
what is the result.”
As usual in science, an initial finding has to be
replicated by other researchers. Meta-analyses
are a means to decide whether, across all these
studies, an effect can be found. Some studies
show an effect, others don’t. In meta-analyses
one combines all studies and tests whether a pre-
sumed effect holds. Such analyses, for example
one performed by Daryl Bem and colleagues,

The (Really) Astonishing Hypothesis:
Looking into the Future
A
How does our experience of time develop? Can we change it with conscious
efforts? Why does time matter so much in our personal well-being? "Time
researcher" Dr. Marc Christoph Wittmann, born in 1966 in München, Ger-
many, explains and explores the riddle of subjective time, from why time
speeds up as we grow older to the connection between time and conscious-
ness in his book Felt Time: The Psychology of How We Perceive Time. (2016)
Dr. Wittmann is a research fellow at the Institute for Frontier Areas of
Psychology and Mental Health in Freiburg, Germany and received his PhD.
(1997) and his Habilitation (2007) at the Institute of Medical Psychology,
University of Munich. For more information about Dr. Marc Wittmann and
his latested book Altered States of Consciousness: Experiences Out of Time

By Dr. Marc Wittmann, PhD, www.psychologytoday.com
show overall positive effects of “looking into the
future,” also when applying Bayesian analysis.
Actually, there is not the Bayesian analysis, the
selection of the method rests on assumptions one
can endlessly discuss (for the initiated: the use of
priors). Again, there is no clear-cut, rational way
of deciding which method to use.
In this blog, I want to high-
light an additional criticism,
besides the one concerning
the right use of statistics.
This type of critique becomes
apparent in the published dis-
cussion in a series of articles
that appeared in March 2018
in the journal Psychology of
Consciousness: Theory, Re-
search, and Practice.
In their article “Precognition
as a form of prospection: A
review of the evidence,” Julia
Mossbridge and Dean Radin
from the Institute of Noetic
Sciences in California provide
an overview of the current
empirical evidence in investi-
gations of precognition. Each
chapter in this article on dif-
ferent forms of prospection
starts with a historic account
of research in the 20th cen-
tury. It features both positive
and null findings concerning
potential effects of precogni-
tive dreaming and computer experiments on pre-
cognition. Two chapters deal with potential
physiological and psychological mechanisms to
explain the results. Of course, one could say that
the way of presentation in this article is in favor
of the veridicality of precognitive effects. But
then this holds true for any summary where re-
searchers present their ideas. If the results were
concerned with a mainstream topic, then the sig-
nificant results would probably just pass without
a roar.
What I want to turn to is the style of arguments
voiced in two articles in this article series which
represent the critical side of the debate.
The articles by Schwarzkopf and by Houran and
colleagues are telling in that they categorically
deny the possibility of scientific investigations of
precognition.
To cite Schwarzkopf, “No matter how strong the
statistical evidence, if the hypothesis is impossi-
ble, it must necessarily be false… I certainly will
not be convinced of its exis-
tence by some implausible ob-
servations, no matter how sig-
nificant the metaanalsis.” This
then stops any scientific de
bate. That's ideology. Houran
et al. write about the “crap
factor” visible in the parapsy-
chological effect sizes (as if
they knew what effect size
would not fall under a “crap
factor”). These are gut reac-
tions, similar to the one Eric–
Jan Wagenmaker was pur-
ported to have had when he
read Daryl Bem’s 2011 paper:
“Reading it made me physi-
cally unwell.”
Why was there such an uproar
concerning positive psi find-
ings? For sure, the presented
evidence goes against what we
learn in school. It is about an
astonishing hypothesis. But
should we react in such an
emotional manner? The debate
on whether there are true
parapsychological effects or not will continue.
Researchers should work in a non-judgmental
way when trying to weigh the evidence of even
extreme claims. That is actually the approach of
Schooler and colleagues in this series of articles.
And that’s how new and astonishing findings in
science have been made. That’s also how aston-
ishing hypotheses were falsified. A very personal
gut feeling may be a strong motivation in re-
search, but it has to be complemented by rigor-
ously applying scientific methods. The overview
given by Julia Mossbridge and Dean Radin on
evidence for precognition is a strong claim that
demands further research.

t is a fact; your brain cannot catch a break! In
fact, your brain, and body stay remarkably
active while you are at sleep. Long after your
muscles have drifted off into the lands of dreams,
your mental engine is still humming and hard at
work finding its way to keep you healthy and
happy.
Sleep is a natural part of our daily routine. It is
a recurring state of mind, characterized by an
altered consciousness, and important to a num-
ber of brain functions, including how nerve cells
(neurons) communicate with each other. While
we are at sleep, sensory activity of nearly all vol-
untary muscles are being reduced to an anabolic
state whereby inhibited interactions with one's
surroundings.
The boundaries between sleeping and waking,
reality and illusion are thin and blurred indeed
especially when we are talking about dreams…
elusive first-person experiences which seem real-
istic while in progress. Over 80 listed sleep disor-
ders have being researched since a Greek physi-
cian, Alcmaeon, postulated around 450 BC, that
sleep was a spell of unconsciousness brought on
by the lack of circulation to the brain. It was in
1953 that REM sleep was first detected by
Eugene Aserinsky and Nathaniel Kleitman.
Dreams during this state of mind can seamlessly
incorporate elements within a person's mind that
would not normally go together and create bi-
zarre, terrifying moments during REM sleep.
Sleep paralysis; it sounds unbelievable. You
wake from sleep and sense that someone is
standing over you in the darkness. You try to
move your head only slightly to take a subtle
glance, but you cannot. Someone or something is
surely holding you down. You attempt to thrash
your arms and legs, but you are frozen in place.
Sheer panic washes over you as your paralysis
lingers. Are you dying?!
Though this may sound all too unreal scientific
studies shows that sleep paralysis is indeed a
very real experience.

n the issue of January the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics and GRAVITY
project were briefly mentioned in an Q&A with IPP concerning the future of Plasma Energy.
Founded as sub-institute in 1963, MPE is the neighbour institute of the Max Planck Institute for
Plasma Physics. The scientific activities of the institute are mostly devoted to astrophysics with teles-
copes orbiting in space. A large amount of the resources are spent for studying black holes in the ga-
laxy and in the remote universe. MPE‘s GRAVITY project is the second-generation VLTI instru-
ment for precision narrow-angle astrometry and interferometric imaging. It will bring the most ad-
vanced vision to the VLT: with its fiber-fed integrated optics, wavefront sensors, fringe tracker, beam
stabilization, and a novel metrology concept, GRAVITY will push the sensitivity and accuracy far
beyond what is offered today. Providing precision astrometry of order ten microarcseconds, and ima-
ging with four milliarcsecond resolution, GRAVITY will revolutionize dynamical measurements of
celestial objects: it will probe physics close to the event horizon of the Galactic Center black hole,
unambiguously detect and measure the mass of black holes in massive star clusters throughout the
Milky Way, uncover the details of mass –accretion and jets in young stellar objects and active galactic
nuclei, and probe the motion of binary stars, exoplanets and young stellar disks. www.mpe.mpg.de
MPE‘s GRAVITY Project; The First Successful Test of Einstein’s
General Relativity Near Supermassive Black Hole
MPE Press Release, July 26, 2018
I
Observations of the Galactic Centre team at
the Max Planck Institute for Extraterres-
trial Physics (MPE) have for the first time
revealed the effects predicted by Einstein’s
general relativity on the motion of a star
passing through the extreme gravitational
field near the supermassive black hole in
the centre of the Milky Way. This long-
sought result represents the climax of a 26-
year-long observation campaign using
ESO’s telescopes in Chile.
Obscured by thick clouds of absorbing dust, the
closest supermassive black hole to the Earth lies
26 000 light-years away at the centre of the
Milky Way. This gravitational monster, which
has a mass four million times that of the Sun, is
surrounded by a small group of stars orbiting
around it at high speed. This extreme environ-
ment — the strongest gravitational field in our
galaxy — makes it the perfect place to explore
gravitational physics, and particularly to test
Einstein’s general theory of relativity.
New infrared observations from the exquisitely
sensitive GRAVITY , SINFONI and NACO in-
struments, developed under the lead of the Max
Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics
(MPE), have now allowed astronomers to follow
one of these stars, called S2, as it passed very
close to the black hole during May 2018.
At the closest point this star was at a distance of
less than 20 billion kilometres from the black
hole and moving at a speed in excess of 25 million
kilometres per hour — almost three percent of
the speed of light.
The team compared the position and velocity
measurements from GRAVITY and SINFONI
respectively, along with previous observations of
S2 using other instruments, with the predictions
of Newtonian gravity, general relativity and
other theories of gravity. The new results are in-
consistent with Newtonian predictions and in ex-
cellent agreement with the predictions of general
relativity.
These extremely precise measurements were
made by an international team led by Reinhard
Genzel (MPE) in Garching, Germany, in conjunc-
tion with collaborators around the world, at the
Paris Observatory–PSL, the Université Grenoble
Alpes, CNRS, the Max Planck Institute for As-
tronomy, the University of Cologne, the Portu-
guese CENTRA – Centro de Astrofisica e Gravi-
tação and ESO. The observations are the culmi-
nation of a 26-year series of ever-more-precise
observations of the centre of the Milky Way using
ESO instruments.
“This is the second time that we have observed
the close passage of S2 around the black hole
15 I The Next Truth March 2019
in our galactic centre. But this time, because of
much improved instrumentation, we were able to
observe the star with unprecedented resolution,”
explains Genzel. “We have been preparing in-
tensely for this event over several years, as we
wanted to make the most of this unique opportu-
nity to observe general relativistic effects.”
The new measurements clearly reveal an effect
called gravitational redshift. Light from the star
is stretched to longer wavelengths by the very
strong gravitational field of the black hole. And
the change in the wavelength of light from S2
agrees precisely with that predicted by Einstein’s
theory of general relativity. This is the first time
that this deviation from the predictions of the
simpler Newtonian theory of gravity has been
observed in the motion of a star around a super-
massive black hole.
The team used SINFONI to measure the velocity
of S2 towards and away from Earth and the
GRAVITY instrument in the VLT Interferometer
(VLTI) to make extraordinarily precise measure-
ments of the changing position of S2 in order to
define the shape of its orbit. GRAVITY creates
such sharp images that it can reveal the motion
of the star from night to night as it passes close
to the black hole — 26 000 light-years from
Earth.
“Our first observations of S2 with GRAVITY,
about two years ago, already showed that we
would have the ideal black hole laboratory,” adds
Frank Eisenhauer (MPE), Principal Investigator
of GRAVITY and the SINFONI spectrograph.
“During the close passage, we could even detect
the faint glow around the black hole on most of
the images, which allowed us to precisely follow
the star on its orbit, ultimately leading to the
detection of the gravitational redshift in the spec-
trum of S2.”
More than one hundred years after he published
his paper setting out the equations of general
relativity, Einstein has been proved right once
more — in a much more extreme laboratory than
he could have possibly imagined!
“Due to the extremely strong gravitational field
we expect to see the effects of general relativity -
but only if we can look close enough,” says Stefan
Gillessen, “This is why we needed to push the
technology. With SINFONI we can measure the
radial velocity of stars very accurately and
GRAVITY gives us extremely sharp images and
accurate positions.”
Continuing observations are expected to reveal
another relativistic effect very soon — a small
rotation of the star’s orbit, known as
Schwarzschild precession — as S2 moves away
from the black hole.
Xavier Barcons, ESO’s Director General, con-
cludes: “ESO has worked with Reinhard Genzel
and his team and collaborators in the ESO Mem-
ber States for over a quarter of a century. It was
a huge challenge to develop the uniquely power-
ful instruments needed to make these very deli-
cate measurements and to deploy them at the
VLT in Paranal. The discovery announced today
is the very exciting result of a remarkable part-
nership.”

Can you see northern lights with naked eyes?
Our naked eye can most easily see the green-yellow part of
the spectrum where the sun emits most of its light. Green is
the most common color observed but the Northern Lights can
also appear white-gray. And a cloudy night if you've never
seen them before, you might not even be entirely sure of what
you're looking at.
How far south can the Northern Lights be seen?
To observers at far-northern latitudes, the Lights are a
frequent occurrence, but many who live in more temperate
climates have never seen them, even though they are
occasionally seen as far south as 35 degrees North latitude.
How long will Northern Lights last?
How long do the northern lights last? Anywhere from 10 minutes
to all night long, depending on the magnitude of the incoming
solar wind. "Coronal holes" consistently produce nice auroras but
big solar flares and CMEs-coronal mass ejections are responsible
for global-wide aurora displays…the BIG shows!
What is the aura borealis?
The Aurora is an incredible light show caused by collisions between
electrically charged particles released from the sun that enter the
earth's atmosphere and collide with gases such as oxygen and nitrogen.
The lights are seen around the magnetic poles of the northern and
southern hemispheres.
What time of the year can you see
the Northern Lights?
In this period of time, no Northern Lights can be
observed. In the most intense Northern Lights area
(notably Alaska, Iceland, Northern Scandinavia and
Yukon), the lights are observed from late August to
mid April. However, from late September to late
March, it is dark after 6pm, and one enjoys
maximum chances.

ick Pope (born 19 September 1965) was an
employee at the British Government's Minis-
try of Defense (MoD) from 1985 to 2006. His post-
ings included being assigned to the Joint Opera-
tions Center during the Persian Gulf War, where
he was a briefer in the Air Force Operations
Room.
Between 1991 and 1994 Nick Pope was posted to
a division called Secretariat (Air Staff) where his
duties included researching and investigating the
UFO phenomenon, mirroring the work done in
America by the United States Air Force’s Project
Blue Book. Although most sightings could be ex-
plained as misidentifications of known objects and
phenomena, a small proportion appeared to defy
any conventional explanation. These included
cases where the witnesses were pilots, police offi-
cers and military personnel, cases where UFOs
had been tracked on radar, and cases where there
had been near-misses between UFOs and civilian
aircraft. Nick Pope takes no position on the true
nature of the UFO phenomenon, but can testify,
based on his official research and investigation,
that it raises important defense, national security
and air safety issues.
While working on the MoD's UFO project Nick
also looked into alien abductions, crop circles,
ghost sightings at military bases, and people who
claimed to have psychic abilities and wanted to
volunteer their services to the UK's intelligence
agencies. When details of Nick Pope's work be-
came public, after the introduction of the UK's
Freedom of Information Act, the media started
referring to him as…the real Fox Mulder.
Today Nick is a freelance journalist, media com-
mentator and author of five books, all of which
are international best-sellers, and have been
translated into many different languages. His
books, Open Skies Closed Minds, about UFOs,
The Uninvited, about alien abductions, Encounter
in Rendlesham Forest, about the UK's most fa-
mous UFO sighting, and Operation Thunder
Child & Operation Lightning Strike, two sci-fi
techno-thrillers about an alien invasion, are

was a shithole. As a young SAS captain he had a
better geopolitical take on the situation then most

one of those public school educated officers who
underestimated his subordinates. That is how
Nick Pope’s latest book “Blood Brothers” starts
off.
Blood Brothers is a hard-hitting action thriller
that draws on some areas of Nick Pope's knowl-

ing classified information about Special Forces
operations, counter-terrorism policy, and the in-

of the ongoing struggle against terrorism in the

as fiction.

n the dark sticky world of that unnamed (for legal reasons) Carshalton pub surrounded by an old
swarthy, sticky carpet and turned up beer mats Andy and Nick's musings and mumblings have
turned to sequences. Care has to be taken because in this land of White Van Man any mistaken refer-
ence to "sequins" could lead to spontaneous flying objects and near death experiences. The paranor-
mal world can indeed be perilous.
What happens in the order of things when people start suffering from poltergeist activity or haunting
and what seems to be a typical sequence of these events? Does the level of activity increase? Does it
fade away or remain? Andy and Nick discuss in their pub philosophy way typical paranormal events
drawn from folklore perpetrated by TV programmes and popular literature.
Firstly, the consensus is that poltergeist and
haunting are two different things, as we already
discussed in our article about entities in the No-
vember issue of The Next Truth. Interestingly,
these manifestations can share similar traits and
it could be argued that somewhere in the middle
ground they are one and the same. But there are
no definitive answers regarding the paranormal
as yet and our ramblings are more about the se-
quence of events rather than definitions, well
that's our excuse and we're sticking to it!
Equally, defining your ghost opens up many lines
of thought so the following does not attempt to
cover every aspect of ghostly manifestations.
The first sequence is, commonly, that the
"hauntee" (we’re still trying to find an appropri-
ate noun for someone who is haunted so we’ve
made this up) has a feeling or sense of being
watched, a feeling that they’re not alone which is
sometimes accompanied by an oppressive atmos-
phere or they start to experience cold spots in the
house. That’s a bit like how Nick felt when he
was at work, the whispering voices behind his
back and the uneasy presence of micromanage-
ment, plenty of demons in that place.
The hauntee then starts noticing peripheral
noises, typically scratching, footsteps, whispering
and murmuring or raps; objects being moved
about out of sight or disappearing altogether;
doors shutting or opening in other parts of the
house, perhaps fleeting glimpses of ghostly
shapes. If there are any children in the house,
they may make invisible friends. In a case we're
currently looking at the child can provide her
mother with a name, description and place where
the "friend" lives in the house.
With poltergeist activity these early occurrences
generally increase in intensity, starting low-key
it’s almost like it doesn’t have the energy to go
full-on at the very beginning; it’s something that
seems to build up. It's easy to believe it’s some
sort of sentient being that enjoys watching the
hauntees at first, then getting to know the people
in the building, finding out their weaknesses, and
finally causing conflict and thriving on the nega-
tive feelings it's generating. Oops, we are back to
Nick’s old boss again so let's move on...
The next part of the poltergeist sequence involves
objects being moved or apparently thrown in the
presence of the hauntee; it might include house-
hold objects as well as items from an unknown
source such as stones or coins which sometimes
seem to travel through walls and roofs and even
pools of water may appear. There are rare cases
recorded whereby fires within the property have
been localised as this intensity builds, and walls
are often daubed with writing and rooms can be
trashed. The human focus of this activity may
appear possessed, that is talking in tongues, levi-
tating and appearing to become the conduit
through which the poltergeist can communicate
with any of the observers.

There’s usually some form of strong negative
emotion within the family unit, generating feel-
ings of depression, fear, anger and conflict. In ex-
treme cases bereavement has been linked to pol-
tergeist activity.
What's interesting is that poltergeist activity
generally fades away; it is as if the "energy"
burns out and finally stops over a relatively short
period. Hauntings however seem to hang around
although there is a view that in time they too
fade away.
"What forces are in
play?" This is the big
question is when we talk
about the activity sur-
rounding poltergeists.
There seems to be some
sort of energy but we
have to be careful be-
cause the obvious ques-
tion that follows is,
‘What sort of energy?’
This still unknown form
of energy is something
inexplicable in terms of
current scientific think-
ing as instrumentation
does not register this en-
ergy but the weight of
evidence demonstrates
‘things’ are clearly happening.
“That why it’s paranormal” the collected masses
shout at our two humble and red faced investiga-
tors. From the very basic description of sequences
given above our intellectually challenged investi-
gators count on their beer stained digits the
forces that manifest themselves during polter-
geist activity and hauntings.
Well, sound, heat and light but what is it that's
energising these forces. The answer is quite sim-
ply "we don't know" and that's why these activi-
ties are paranormal, with thanks to the collected
masses. That's probably the only certainty. There
may be hypotheses but the good old bottom line
says "case not proven" (is that a mixed meta-
phor?) so our musings turns back to the se-
quences and thoughts about what people are ex-
periencing.
Let’s go over this in more detail...
Objects being moved, appearing or disappearing
produces some peculiar anomalies. With haunt-
ings, objects generally get moved out of sight and
this is the case in the early stages of poltergeist
activity. As this intensity grows the objects start
to be moved directly in front of witnesses what
makes it look like the entity getting bolder. An-
other factor is that very few people actually ob-
serve the object starting to move, is this because
witnesses are not focused on the object and only
realise it’s moving after the event. So what’s hap-
pening? Is it a form of intelligence making these
objects move or is it
some form of telekine-
sis? Are the witnesses
themselves the unwit-
ting force behind these
objects moving?
Where objects are di-
rected at people and the
victim is hit, they’re not
usually hurt, the objects
invariably move slowly,
almost at half speed.
Could there be a time
and space element to
this? If so, how are ob-
jects being manipulated
in this way? As men-
tioned it's very rare for
someone to see an object
move from a stationary position, it’s usually seen
mid-air. On the subject of motion; what about
those stones? (Amongst other objects) These ap-
pear to be thrown from nowhere! Where do they
come from and why stones?
As we mused earlier they generally appear to
move through the fabric of the building and when
picked up are warm to the touch. There are many
accounts of witnesses throwing stones back in the
direction they came from only to have them
thrown back. Is this due to an unknown and un-
seen intelligent entity or have the stones become
energised in some way? The fact that they are
warm indicates they have possibly been subjected
to some force or energy. Of course this goes back
to the notion that maybe there is some sort of dis-
turbance in time and space and that they appear
from beyond “the veil”. Or maybe it's that ghosts
just don't like to live in glass houses and enjoy
throwing stones ;) If anyone has a haunted green-
house we would love to hear from you.
Shocking scientific research has led to some pretty
awesome inventions and points out when stimulating
the left temporoparietal junction of the brain, that
defines the idea of self, shadow persons become 'real'.

Where there have been attempts at capturing
recordings of these occurrences, particularly with
a video camera, they don’t get picked up which,
for the sceptic, means they never occurred and
undermines the validity of the claims. But it's
curious that there are so many of these occur-
rences in the first place yet there seem to be a
universal law which means that as soon as you
point a camera at something, it won’t bloody hap-
pen! Does that indicate that investigators are
somehow being defeated by a natural law which
defies the camera?
Andy has read about a pol-
tergeist case where a person
witnessed an apparition,
seemingly it was aware that
it was being watched, it
couldn’t move through the
wall despite its best efforts
and it seemed to get con-
fused. Instead, it moved
down a corridor and out of
sight, the witness ran after it
but it was gone. There
seemed to be something
about him watching the ap-
parition which interfered
with its ability to pass
through the wall.
So, what is that all about?
Andy ponders if it's the same
universal law that states
that if someone stands next
to you in the toilet urinals
you suddenly find you can't pee? Or was the wit-
ness exerting some influence over the poor sod
and that the two have a binding energy or attrac-
tion? That alone, makes Andy’s “universal law”
even more worrying when thinking about it.
But we go on to muse that from a rational point
of view, one may consider this and apply a hefty
dose of scepticism and then declare, “Well, it’s a
load of baloney”. But if you give it the benefit of
doubt to the witness, regardless what’s causing
this event; it would seem to have some sort of in-
telligence. If it’s trying to get through a wall but
then moves along the corridor to be out of sight
because it is unable to do so, that indicates that
it’s got some sort of free will, which is very inter-
esting. Conversely, there are plural of eyewitness
accounts which state that entities can walk
through solid objects and disappeared through
walls so there is no universal pattern to this be-
haviour and you pays your money and take your
choice. OK, so what’s next in the paranormal
goody bag? Hauntees may then discover that
where children are involved there is a connection
with the child's invisible friend to a death in the
property, for example, the same name and, or, a
physical description.
Or how about a prayer and blessing the house
while trying to make peace in the property? At
this point, the owners are
thinking ‘something is going
on here, it’s not just us hallu-
cinating'. Well, you’d like to
think so, but who knows?
Sometimes blessing the
house for the first time brings
a lull in the disturbances and
the activity calms down for a
little bit, but what tends to
happen is that whatever this
energy or entity is, it seems
to come back stronger and
angrier. Think of it like a
wasp that’s just been given a
hefty clip round the mandi-
bles.
Now it becomes more inter-
esting (for the observer) be-
cause after experiencing
these yet unexplained noises,
bangs, knocks, seeing objects
move around, a visual appa-
rition will usually appear for the first time per-
haps in the form of a shadow figure. The entity,
or whatever it might be, becomes more threaten-
ing or increases its night visits to the bedroom
(as per the norm in movie land). Thinks! You’re
probably at your most vulnerable when you’re in
bed and you’re sleeping, or trying to fall asleep.
It’s like a show of power, it’s got stronger and it's
taunting you, ‘not only can you hear me but now
you can see me’!!! People start to hear disembod-
ied whispers, voices or even a growl. Growls are
very common for some reason. People may then
be touched, scratched, bitten, slapped, pushed,
dragged... there is certainly a physical contact
that starts to happen and no pillow or duvet is
going to protect you.
The thing with the Enfield poltergeist was
Carbon monoxide is an odorless, colorless gas
and it's dangerous because our red blood cells
absorb CO much easier than they do oxygen.
Oxygen deprivation leads to symptoms such as
weakness, nausea, confusion, and eventually
death. But before you kick the bucket, you might
experience hallucinations...it'll have you seeing
ghosts.
21 I The Next Truth March 2019

that once the investigators were able to establish
it could make a noise, it was encouraged to speak
and it started uttering through one of the girls in
the property. It was actually making contact in
that way. So again, it seemed to up the ante in
the sense that it started making growling noises
through the girl which developed into speech.
Was she actually projecting her own voice? Tests
indicate that if you try and speak in that un-
earthly voice which came from the back of the
throat and very guttural, it could be done for a
few minutes before the throat began to hurt. She
was doing that voice for hours and should have
damaged her voice box. What's also interesting
about this case was the personality of the voice
what distinct from this young girl. It sounded, by
many ears, like an old man, swearing, being
rude, pedantic. It was not just a voice change but
a personality change. Was she truly possessed
and was her body now hosting something un-
worldly?
By now the entity from this case, recorded in
England between 1977 and 1979, has increased
its power and its visibility whereby some of it's
unintentionally have being captured in a photo-
graph as well as you can see an unexplained
mass in images and might think ‘What’s that
blob?’ or ‘What’s that blur?’ So people start to
think ‘okay, there’s some kind of physical form to
it’. Others might not. Nick feels a bit awkward
when it comes to photographs and mention of
blobs, his diet is just not working.
Our journey now moves onto Electronic Voice
Phenomenon. When people start to get intelligent
responses to the questions that are being asked
they might also get manifestations of substances,
something that looks like blood. This substance is
actually tested and it's found to be blood group O
- well then it is blood. Bloody hell. But how did
this manifest in our reality or perhaps more in-
terestingly from whom? Insects, particularly
flies, bees and wasps may swarm or become more
obvious. Don’t forget the spiders.
Next, as the family panics (yes, they’ve got the
message) they might start thinking about an-
other blessing or exorcism, usually in the form of
a Christian ritual or the classic Native American
smudging. What happens then? Temperature
dropping can be felt in the room and batteries
start to drain in the equipment brought into the
house. Do 'ghosts’ and ‘poltergeists' feed off
human fear, electrical charged energy, alkaline
batteries, but not rechargeable batteries (they’re
obviously fussy), electrical equipment left on
standby, nearby phone masts and mobile phones?
In poltergeist cases text messages have been re-
ceived to a dismantled mobile phone with no
power and no SIM card which is indeed a bit
weird.
However, in most poltergeist activity cases, the
energy, or whatever it is that’s causing this
event, does actually eventually dissipate and dis-
appear. So it’s very much a temporary thing,
which is quite an interesting point when you talk
about ‘ghosts’ and ‘hauntings’ in the broadest
sense, which are recurring that something is at-
tached to the place. Perhaps poltergeist activity
attaches to the person at a particular moment in
their life. What's interesting is that when the
connected person dies the poltergeist activity
stops altogether. May we conclude that these
events have to do with certain types of people? A
haunted house having residence living there for
four years, moves out, new residence moves in,
nothing happens and as they move out a new
family move in and it all kicks off again. Is there
some kind of link between having the right peo-
ple in the right environment for these things to
happen? Or is it that people are just imagining
the whole?
Within the final sequence of hauntings, objects
continue to be thrown or moved and sometimes
the entity, or energy force, can make the room
shake!! Other times the activity will stop sud-
denly and the room feels lighter, the atmosphere
seems brighter like opening the curtains on a
bright day. In other cases the entity will come
back stronger and angrier forcing the family to
move out for good. However, despite the above
sequence of events reported on TV programmes
and in popular literature, most cases of paranor-
mal activity is reduced to anomalous smells and
sounds only. Very rarely are apparitions seen
and objects thrown. It may be less dramatic but
this is the way that it seems to go.
The conclusion.
There is a pattern starting with low energy,
building up in intensity to a crescendo and then
dying away. The problem about paranormal ac-
tivity in research is it’s very rarely longitudinal,
there is little year on year research or long term
follow up, that is, talking to the same people
22 I The Next Truth March 2019
years later and establishing whether they are
experiencing any further paranormal activity ei-
ther at the haunted location or elsewhere. We
just get a snapshot of something at that moment
of time. The psychology of hauntings and polter-
geist activity has become a specialised field but it
does not capture tangible proof or satisfactory
explanations of the phenomena.
The science behind it.
Taken from a scientific perspective there is
plenty of anecdotal evidence from reliable wit-
nesses but the whole question of whether this is
proof is another matter. Much of the evidence is
personal experience and cannot be duplicated.
These are spontaneous events which seem to be
linked to the person or a set of physical circum-
stances which are beyond our current under-
standing of time and space and matter (likely but
not provable).
Finally, we encourage all who is curious to what
lurks in the unknown to spend some 10 minutes

taken in this world by Rosemary Breen. https://

e all wonder so now and then about what
will happen to us after we die. When a
loved one have passed away, we long to see him
or her again after our turn comes and having a
glorious reunion with them as we are walking
one of the most wonderful places containing har-
monic melodies coming straight from the heart.
Is such a reunion a non-illusion moment and
thus a realistic possibility what we experience
with full awareness or is death really the end of
all consciousness?
Well, according to some re-
searcher’s consciousness is
just another property,
emerging as a result of tril-
lions of electrical pulses
shuttling across the brain.
According to this, conscious-
ness is only a property and
not an entity. As on the
other hand the bible, for in-
stance, is teaching us that
life does not end after our
bodies die. “I am the resur-
rection and the life…those
who believe in me, even
though they die like everyone else, will live
again.” The bible describes how eyewitnesses be-
ing the closest to Jesus, told the event in him
demonstrating his power over death by rising
from the dead after being crucified and buried for
three days. But what if we do not have to wait
until our biological clock stops ticking whereas
the universe is absorbing our energy and gravity
gets a definitive hold on to our physical body and
lays it to rest, just below the surface of Mother
Earth.
Now that would be something right, accessing
the ‘powers’ of Cellular Memory Release (CMR)
in multidimensional existences while we are still
alive and well? Could this be a fact. Straightfor-
ward, WE CAN! But before we can ‘control’ this
superpower we have to understand how these
subtle bundles of ‘info-energy’, which are com-
prised of physical, mental and emotional data
and comes from all of your life experiences, ge-
netic heritage, and past generations, looks like in
its behavior.
First of all, you have to know that ‘The Cellular
Memory phenomenon’ (a consciousness at cellu-
lar level) is the collective energy field in your
body, like the Higgs-field is to quantum particles,
and generated by these individual cell memories.
Nothing we experience escapes from our reality
and is being imprinted into
our cellular holographic
memory in the form of a cell
memory whereas it operates
behind the scenes of our
subconscious mind.
These subtle bundles of ‘info
-energy’ in the Cellular
Memory pre-disposes or,
‘programs’, you to perceive
and behave in a certain way
as thoughts and feelings are
made. A new world pro-
duced by a thin, irregular
sheet of neurons in the cen-
ter of the brain what is
called ‘the Claustrum’ it manifests within your
consciousness. In this idea we can use the anal-
ogy of a computer in were the holistic beingness
is the hard disk, as the Cellular Memory is the
database on the storage disk whereas the files
within the database are the cell memories. It can
be stated that everything, which has ever hap-
pened to us, is recorded in the cells of our body
similarly to files being stored within a computer.
Looking at the behavior of our cells and their info
-energy in such a manner, a great part of the
Theory of Everything (ToE), which e.g. speaks
about the one’s and zero’s (the Binary-code em-
bedded in string theory) of the universe can,

wave hitting our magnetic field (aura) due cer-
tain chemical reactions in our brain and thus our
cells. (Histone code)
Our body has the capability to release the electric
impulses of these subtle bundles of info-energy
(CMR), stored in the cellular memory, as soon as
our atoms are started to get excited and slightly
crack, they release its nuclear photonic light from
the core. This coded bright light is then trans-
ported via the nerve-system to the brain where is
starts a plural electric explosion what we became
to understand as neuronal behavior. Now the
brain received this ‘collective energy’, it can
transmit the information, in vibrations/waves,
towards the magnetic field of
the body where it becomes a
readable language for those
who have learned to received
it as well as transforming it in
images, sound and or feelings,
in other words…telepathy. So,
like an e+/e- pair can spawn
from photonic-light from in-
side a black hole and commu-
nicate with the Higgs field,
our ‘inner-light’ can transform
into electro-magnetic waves
whereas it is triggering the
aura and even light it up a little bit.
Creating this crazy transformation from particle
into waves, a closer look to the, in science, well
known ‘slit experiment’ which was performed by
Davisson and Germer in 1927, is also not entirely
useless. Skipping the complicated interior of this
experiment, which is not magical or weird but a
completely straightforward consequence of quan-
tum mechanics, it comes down to the behavior of
photonic light, static or not, changing from parti-
cles to waves and probably vise verse whereby
the Fabric of Reality is swirling a Schrödinger-
box providing a strange evidence for the many-
worlds interpretation.
Now let us bend the borders of our thoughts just
one more time by replacing this slit-experiment
for the human retina and maybe even in reverse.
Many say it is not possible for the human eye to
observe this form of light with full awareness
but, looking at the possibility of how photonic
light can be polarized by a medium like the hu-
man retina, it does have the ability in creating
both a vivid image inside the brain as it can
James Gate jr. whom he refers to as "adinkras".)
In this way, the Cellular Memory is, so to speak,
a bio-computer what is charged up due an electric
spark and influences our relationships to every-
thing and anything that is happening in our per-
spective of time, space and matter.
Now, let us take a brief look at an underlying
level in this idea of the similarity between the
blueprint of our existence and that of the uni-
verse by trying to imagine an endless rotating
spiral of plasma, which is representing time, in a
pitch black place containing nothing except for
one tiny bright spot. This electric charged spot,
floating in a soundless place
a such and is slowly bending
some arrows of time as it is
drifting through the center of
this spiral, towards a form-
less gas-cloud of hydrogen
(H2) and Helium (He) which
is present around the core of
a black hole (BH).
We all know these days that
a black hole is pre-eminently
one of the creepiest places
the universe has to offer as it
is exhibiting such strong
gravitational effects that nothing, nor particles
nor electromagnetic radiation, such as light, can
escape from inside it. With this being said, a bor-
der in our way of thinking has being created in-
stantly…but these invisible borders should not be
a fact in their existing.
So, like the nuclear energy in our atoms, we leave
those particles exactly where they are … inside
the black hole as we leave the info- energy inside
our cells. Like the particles inside the black hole
and the info-energy inside our cells, we are going
to force our thoughts again and bend the borders
of the fabric of time as we transform them into a
clear vision containing vibrating energy having
the capability to communicate with a field what
is connecting us all together.
Looking at the behavior of a strange alpha or
photonic light, which is being pressed against the
edge of the inner-shell of a black hole due the
centrifugal force (CF) and starting to act as an
electron-positron pair (e-/e+) just on the outer-
shell, our info-energy is starting to act in a simi-
lar manner and shows itself as an electric coded
‘Info-Energy’; it is

your existence as it
is the energetic
expression of you as
a holistic being.
25 I The Next Truth March 2019
created a multiply dimensional holographic pro-
jection in the visible spectrum and perceptible by
bystanders.
Four methods in creating this form of light con-
taining electromagnetic waves, are known; po-
larization by transmission, by reflection, by re-
fraction and by scattering whereby scattering is
the one closest possibility in creating a natural
holographic effect in ‘The Eye of Ra’ (mid-brain)
while traveling through a medium like that of the
human retina. And as we are entering the know-
ledge of physical chemistry as well as we are
scraping the surface of basic physics, we can see
that this manner of scattering speaks of light
striking the atoms of such a medium and often
sets the electrons of those atoms into vibration.
The vibrating electrons then produce their own
electromagnetic wave that is radiated outward in
all directions.
This newly generated wave strikes neighboring
atoms, forcing their electrons into vibrations at
the same original frequency which we under-
stand as communication in the form of transmit-
ting images, sound or/and emotions by telepathy.
These vibrating electrons produce another elec-
tromagnetic wave that is once more radiated out-
ward in all directions as this absorption and re-
emission of light waves causes the light to be
scattered about the medium and is partially po-
larized.
So, if the human retina has the ability to absorb
these polarized photons and is creating a strange
effect in a possible distortion of our visible spec-
trum, a behavior as such can trigger the optic
nerves and thus the neuron activity in the brain
which again gives an effect in the Claustrum, or
‘Key stone’ when looking at certain medieval leg-
ends, being charged and transmits this electricity
to the nerve system as well as it is charging the
fluid in the mid-brain also known as ‘the eye of
Ra’. Due an effect like this, the fluid in the mid-
brain is being slightly charged (heated up)
whereas it is merging with the chemicals the Pin-
eal gland is releasing. This gives a result of,
around the Corpus Callosum, Hydrogen release
due extern magnetic fluctuations from the aura
and the intern electricity the body gained due
photon polarization.
Looking at the info-energy our cells contain in
such a manner, we could say that a crazy galactic
behavior is taking place inside our body meaning
that there is a plausible possibility that the uni-
verse could have its origin in our minds as we
projecting our ideas, emotions and experiences on
a place which is bearing the name ‘The Eather’.
So, everything you see and experience in 3D, in-
cluding time and matter, could be a reversed in-
terpretation of a reality existing somewhere in
another universe … a one of a four-strand Theory
of Everything (TOE) which is a state of mind and
matter whereby an equation is 'ALMOST' utterly
useless due the chaotic behavior of an subatomic
universe.
Will there ever be tangible evidence of its exis-
tence and will we ever accept a scientific explana-
tion as such which definitely has the power of
proving the reality of the paranormal?

ome laws can be bent, and some can be bro-
ken...But NOT the Laws of Nature and the
Universe! These laws govern ALL things, every-
where and ALL the time! The laws of the Uni-
verse are not like rules and regulations; they can-
not be bent, avoided, or broken. They are the way
things have to be, the way things work, no mat-
ter what. Everything follows these Laws.
The Universal Law of Karma (Cause and Ef-
fect) In chaos theory, “the butterfly effect” is the
sensitive dependence on initial conditions in
which a small change in one state of a determi-
nistic nonlinear system can result in large differ-
ences in a later state. The name of the effect,
coined by Edward Lorenz, is derived from the
metaphorical example of the details of a hurri-
cane (exact time of formation, exact path taken)
being influenced by minor perturbations such as
the flapping of the wings of a distant butterfly
several weeks earlier. -Wikipedia
The universal law of Karma says for every action
there is a counteraction. Karma is not punish-
ment or retribution, but simply an absolute ex-
pression or consequence of natural acts. Karma
means "deed" or "act" and more broadly names
the universal principle of cause and effect, action
and reaction, which governs all life. The effects
experienced from an action are not automatically
fated. That is to say, a particular deed now is not
obligatory to some particular, predestined
future experience or reaction; it is not a simple,
one-to-one association of reward or punishment.
But of course, the prevailing belief is that it is. I
guess instant Karma would be just that.
Karma is consequence of our actions.
Karma is not doom, luck, providence, or fate. We
act of “free will,” creating our own destiny
whether we realize it or not. According to the
Vedas, if one shows goodness, one will reap good-
ness; if one sows evil, one will reap evil. Karma
refers to the totality of our actions and their asso-
ciated reactions in this and previous lives, all of
which determines our future and future lives.
The conquest of karma lies in intelligent action
and dispassionate response.
The Hindu say:
If you treat others with good will, you will experi-
ence the same, although not necessarily from the
same place or immediately.
In Christianity, it is said:
“Do unto others as you would have them do unto
you.” “Love thy neighbor as thyself, for love of
thee (God).” And “whatever ye shall sow, that
also shall ye reap.” Karma is the energy released
to the universe in thoughts, words, and deeds.
This can be in the ways of daily interactions with
others or nature. In spoken and written words,
prayers, spells, intentions, and conversations,
also through thoughts.

Prayer, intentions, or spells are all the same
thing. Putting our desires, wants and needs into
a concentrated chain of thoughts and words and
then releasing it to the Universe/God/Goddess/
Deity.
The Universal Law of Karma also says: “No Kar-
mic Debt ever goes unpaid.” If not “instant
Karma,” then it could be days, months, years, or
even in the next life. But it will come back.
“Cause and Effect” is a universal law on all
levels; everywhere in Physics, in all kinds of Re-
lationships, throughout life. For every action,
there is a counteraction. The reason I am spend-
ing so much time explaining this is because peo-
ple do not believe this actually exists, but they
are so wrong. “Out of sight, out of mind” is the
way most humans deal with Karma. It is a Law
that governs all things in existence. There is no
breaking this law or attempting to go against it
because it will always inevitably come back to
you.
In Paganism, the Rede proclaims:
“Ever mind the rule of three; what ye send out
comes back to ye.” In this belief system, what you
do, think, or say comes back three-fold, be it good
or not. This is why “spells” rhyme, to make the
intender of the manifestation (prayer or request)
fully think through what it is that he/she is ask-
ing for – besides making it easier to remember
and pass on to others if it worked.
Just thinking about something releases an inten-
tion. “Be mindful of this” is an ounce of preven-
tion. “Be careful of what you wish for" warns us
of this. Your prayers will now be answered with
joy and bliss.
Our body’s energies are interconnected from
chakra to chakra to energy layers or auric bodies
to the Universe. Within these layers of energy is
where thoughts, desires, wishes, and prayers are
formed through the Astral-Bridge of the Heart
Chakra and then broadcasted out to the Universe
through what I refer to as the Cosmic-Bridge, or
the 8th Auric Layer. (See Auric Layers in Chapter
10 for details of the inner workings.) So the Uni-
verse acts on our thoughts as soon as they pop
into our mind.
Here is an example of what I’m talking
about. Let’s say you really need $50,000 to keep
the house out of foreclosure, keep the car from
being repossessed, and pay the utilities before
they are shut off, all due to a layoff or cutbacks at
work. Therefore, this prayer/intention, goes out
to the universe off the top of your head in des-
peration: “Please, please, please (insert favorite
deity), I need $50,000, and I don’t care how I get
it. I just need it really, really fast! I’ll be good (go
to church, listen to parents, blah, blah, blah) …
I’ll do anything.” And exasperated you fall asleep
on this.
The desire was stated, and the intention was re-
leased to the universe with detachment. A day or
two later you get a message telling you that rich
Uncle Fred dropped dead, and you inherited
$50Gs.
What will really bake your noodle is,
• Did your intention cause his death?
• Was it a premonition to know he was dying?
• Was it a premonition to know the exact amount
of money you were to receive?
• Or was he just old and unhealthy, and the
whole thing was just a very strange coincidence?
These questions can never truly be answered in-
disputably, so now for the rest of your life, you go
on wondering. Talk about bad karma.
Truth is, there is no definitive answer to that…
so it would be bad karma following you around
forever. "Watch your thoughts; they become your
words. Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habit. Watch
your habits; they become your character. Watch
your character; it becomes your destiny. -Lao
Tzu
The lesson to be learned here in setting up and
sending out your intentions, prayers, spells, or
manifestations is to always follow these rules. Be
mindful of your thoughts… two thoughts cannot
coexist at the same time. Your thoughts exist
only in the “here and now,” the only time that
change can occur.
All of your intentions, desires, and needs must be
of free-will to anyone involved; known and un-
known. Always for the best and highest good to
everyone involved; known and unknown. With
harm to none unless in self-defense. There, now
you’re covered. May good karma be in all desires
you conjure.

The Universal Law of Attraction (The Law of
Manifestation – Through Positive Affirmation)
There are so many good books, CDs, DVDs, and
entire modalities based on the Law of Attraction.
There is more written about this Law of the Uni-
verse than there is about the Universe. The Uni-
verse only knows what is being concentrated on,
your center of focus; whether it is something you
want or do not want. It does not know the differ-
ence, only the focus. Whatever you dwell upon,
increases.
Talking about your problems and solving them is
not the same thing. In fact, talking about them
undoes any intention of solving them. Complain-
ing only entrenches and intensifies the very thing
you are complaining about. When you talk of a
problem, do so from the standpoint of finding a
solution to it. Focus only on what you want,
never on what you do not want. Whatever the
focus is becomes greater: happiness, wealth, suc-
cess, etc. Example: you are in need. Focus on
abundance rather than the lack of. If you do not
want to be a victim, stop focusing on the experi-
ences in which you were mistreated. If you desire
more money, see yourself already rich.
If you want peace of mind, stop focusing on
things that call up fear, anger, jealousy, and
anxiety. Dwell on the things you want even as
you take action to remedy what you do not want.
Put the intention out and let it go, “AS IF” it is
already manifested.
The Universal Law of Reverse Effect
Overkill -- Trying to force something to happen
by hanging onto the thought and excessively ob-
sessing over it. One need only put the intention
out to the Universe and release it “AS IF” it is
already taken care of. Overkill or obsessing on an
outcome can include such constant phrases as “I
hope this works,” “I wish this would work,” “I
pray this comes true,” “I think I did this right,”
and “I hope I did everything correctly.” This re-
duces the likelihood of success.
Phrases like “I hope,” “I wish,” “I pray,” are actu-
ally negatives. They imply that it would be nice
for the intention to come true, but there is doubt
and fear that they won’t so obsessive and self-
validating words are used. The ego wants us to
obsess over an outcome “AS IF” we know better.
Chances of success = zero
The Universal Law of Opposites
This relates to the Laws of Attraction, the Law of
Reverse Effect, and the Law of Non-Resistance.
Failure to release the intention causes the oppo-
site to come about. Fear, doubt, worry, anxiety,
stress, obsession, and overkill all attract the op-
posite of what you want.
30 I The Next Truth March 2019
Resistance, which is a negative form of concen-
tration, also tends to bring about the opposite of
what you intended.
The Universal Law of Non-Resistance
Surrender your hold on your desires and release
them to the Universe. Resistance keeps you
locked in struggle. It creates more of the same
problem through the Law of Concentration and
Manifestation, more commonly known as the
Law of Attraction.
Non-resistance is letting go of the pain, and it
frees your energy. Letting go is not defeat. Wis-
dom is putting your time, attention, and energy
into something you can do something about
rather than what you cannot change.
“GOD, grant me the Serenity to accept the things
I cannot change, the Courage to change the
things that I can, and the Wisdom to know the
difference.” By “turning the other cheek,” we are
not inviting abuse but rather changing our focus
of attention towards where the problem is not.
Non-resistance is letting go of physical, emo-
tional, psychological and spiritual pain or disease
(dis-ease).
We are healing the hurt and turning our atten-
tion and energy towards where we are going and
want to be rather than where we came from and
don’t want to be. Remember, the Universal Law
of Attraction answers our focus, be it what we
want or not. We let go of resistance, not as a sign
of weakness, doubt, defeat, passivity, or compli-
ance, but of freedom to move on with our lives.
Resistance, like constantly trying to prove our-
selves right, is a no-win situation. It usually
comes from polarity mindsets, seeing things in
black and white, right and wrong, good and bad,
all or nothing. Truth is beyond both and encom-
passes all.
We each have a piece of the whole, and there is
some truth, some good and some bad, on both
sides. Nonresistance is when you are willing to
concede that you are not ALL right and the other
is not ALL wrong and are willing to look for a
common goal. When you seek the common good
and a truth that is truly bipartisan, you bring
about a third alternative that both sides can
agree upon. This is non-resistance, not allowing
the ego to rule. If you refuse to be disturbed, the
problem will fall away on its own.

n a few years on 4 November 2022, the whole
world will celebrate the centennial of the dis-
covery of the tomb of the ancient Egyptian boy
king Tutankhamun.
The Ministry of Antiquities has launched the
exhibition “Tutankhamun: Treasures of the
Golden Pharaoh” to celebrate the most important
archaeological discovery of the 20th century,
when the intact tomb of Tutankhamun, known
formally to Egyptologists as KV62, was found in
November 1922.
This exhibition will be touring the world at the
very same time that the Valley of the Kings in
Luxor may reveal other secrets. A hypothesis pro-
posing that queen Nefertiti’s tomb could be hid-
den behind the north and west walls of the tomb
of Tutankhamun will be scientifically investi-
gated, and the search is on for the mummy of
Nefertiti herself. Of all the queens of ancient
Egypt, none is as famous as Nefertiti, the beauti-
ful 18th-Dynasty royal wife who ruled Egypt
alongside her husband, Akhenaten, and briefly
after him. No ancient text mentions what became
of her, and 200 years of archaeological investiga-
tion in Egypt has never found her mummy. The
fate of Nefertiti is one of ancient Egypt’s greatest
mysteries.
Through the Egyptian Mummy Project, my
goal was to start a fresh and scientific search for
Nefertiti’s mummy. In the investigations to dis-
cover the family of Tutankhamun, we tested the
DNA of the two fetuses included among the
treasures of Tutankhamun’s tomb. These had
long been thought to be the stillborn daughters of
Tutankhamun and his royal wife Ankhesenamun,
the daughter of Akhenaten and Nefertiti.
We compared their DNA to that of a headless
mummy of a royal woman, one of two poorly pre-
served female mummies discovered in another
tomb in the Valley of the Kings, KV21. The tests
revealed that the headless KV21 mummy was in
fact the mother of the two fetuses, which should
mean that this was Tutankhamun’s queen Ank-
hesenamun. The mummies from KV21 are in
poor condition due to the effects of the floods that
have occasionally swept through the valley and
into the tomb. To prevent further degradation of
the remains, I moved the two mummies to the
Egyptian Museum in Cairo for conservation.
I believe that the second female mummy in
KV21 could be none other than Queen Nefertiti.
The ancient Egyptians sometimes placed mother
and daughter near each other in burial cham-
bers. This was the case in KV35, where the
mummy of Tutankhamun’s grandmother queen
Tiye was placed next to the mummy of one of
Tiye’s many daughters, a woman revealed by
DNA tests to be Tutankhamun’s mother. We will
now also begin the search for other mummies
that belong to Nefertiti’s family, including her
five other missing daughters and her sister queen
Mutnodjmet.
Nefertiti was a strong queen who drove her
own chariot and had her own palace in her hus-
band’s new and short-lived capital of Akhetaten
(Horizon of the Sun Disk) at the site known today
as Amarna. There are even images that show

Could Science be About to Reveal the True Image of
the Ancient Egyptian Queen Nefertiti?
32 I The Next Truth March 2019
If the DNA analysis definitively identifies
Nefertiti’s mummy, we will commission CT scans
of the head of the newly discovered Nefertiti.
A digital reconstruction of the face from the CT
scan will then be combined with the artistic
rendering of the famous bust to reveal the most
complete and accurate image of the queen. After
more than three thousand years, the light of the
sun will shine once again upon the exquisite face
of Nefertiti.
When we attempted to reconstruct the face
of Tutankhamun, we used three teams from the
US, Egypt and France. Without telling the
American team that they were reconstructing the
face of Tutankhamun, we gave them CT scans of
the young king’s mummy. Having no idea of the
identity of their subject, the Americans recon-
structed the face as that of an old man.
I told the Egyptian team that they were re-
ceiving Tutankhamun’s CT scans, and they re-
constructed a face that did not convince me at all
that this was how the king had appeared in life.
The French team introduced their reconstruction
to us, and it showed a person with blue eyes,
which made us all joke about how French he
looked.

her smiting the female enemies of Egypt. She
was very often shown in the art of the Amarna
Period as a loyal, devoted wife and mother in the
company of her husband and daughters. The
princesses participated in life at court and in
worship with their mother.
A group of scientists has also made an amaz-
ing new digital reconstruction of Nefertiti’s face
based on her artistic representations. They com-
piled images of the famous painted bust of the
queen on display in Berlin, another limestone
bust in Cairo, and wall reliefs at Amarna show-
ing the queen. The Berlin bust was discovered to
conceal a slightly different image of the queen as
an older woman beneath its outer layer of
painted plaster. The researchers assembled the
various renderings of her features and presented
the “first revelation” of her face.
Was the final version of the Berlin bust,
showing an image of a youthful, yet mature,
woman, a more acceptable version than the
initial bust carved in stone, which showed the
effects of aging? Is this beautiful portrait a
realistic representation of Nefertiti, or does it
reflect the artistic conventions of the Amarna
Period?

Dr. Brian A. Sharpless Weighs in on the Symptoms and Features
elcome Dr. Sharpless, I appreciate the
time and efforts you took for letting us
peer into your career and/or some of your
ideas/theories/research within the complex-
ity of Clinical Psychology.
Dr. Sharpless: Thank you Maria for chatting
with me.
Q: Dr. Sharpless, you are well known within
the community of clinical psychology. But
for those people who don’t know much
about your background, can you tell us a
little about yourself? Who is Associate Pro-
fessor, PhD, Brian A. Sharpless?
Dr. Sharpless: I think I’m a curious and some-
what obsessive person interested in a lot of differ-
ent things. I spend the majority of my time doing
research, teaching, seeing patients and I also love
to write. My girlfriend would tell you that I love
to cook but hate housework :)
Q: Surfing to the website of the Argosy Uni-
versity (Northern Virginia), American
School of Professional Psychology https://
www.argosy.edu/clinical-psychology/
locations/northern-virginia/faculty/brian-a-
sharpless we can read that your girlfriend
is right and that the areas of your focus are
not housework but Psychopathology,
Psychodynamic, and Psychotherapy. Can
you explain what this corner of psychology
is speaking of?
Dr. Sharpless: Sure. Psychopathology is the sci-
entific study of psychological disorders. It’s a very
broad subject and, from my perspective, one of
the most interesting ones. I specifically study
some of the more rare and unusual disorders that
people can suffer from.
In terms of psychodynamic therapy, it is the con-
temporary version of the treatment formulated
by Sigmund Freud. It basically assumes that
people are not transparent to themselves, and
that we all do things that we don’t understand
And have repetitive patterns of thoughts, emo-
tions, and behaviors that can sometimes get us
into trouble. Psychodynamic therapy helps us to
gain more freedom in our lives by figuring out the
ways that we are not free and then choosing to do
something different. It’s one of the most popular
versions of therapy practiced today and fortu-
nately has evidence that it is effective and cost-
efficient.
Q: What was it that inspired you to step into
the science of clinical psychology?
Dr. Sharpless: I think the clichéd answer that
many psychologists give is that they entered the
field to help people. That’s partially true, of
course, but if I’m being honest with myself it’s
certainly not the main reason. I find people abso-
lutely fascinating, especially the strange things
they feel, say, and do. I think I went into clinical
psychology to try to better understand people.
At a more practical level, though, I never wanted
to have a boring job. I’ve been very lucky to cob-
ble together a life that’s allowed me to read and
write about things I’m interested in, traveling the
world, and chat with amazing people.
I sometimes can’t believe that I get paid to do
what I do. For instance, when I was writing my
first book, I was able to spend several

weeks studying 15th and 16th century “witch hunt-
ing” manuals like the Malleus Maleficarum.
What other job would pay me to do that?
Q: Getting paid for studying and writing
that is a dream job indeed. Did you already
know at a young age you wanted to study
clinical psychology?
Dr. Sharpless: Yes. I even had it written in my
high school yearbook. However, I thought back
then that I would solely be a clinician, and not an
academic. The biggest decision for me was be-
tween philosophy and clinical psychology. After a
lot of back and forth I decided that I could still do
philosophy without a PhD in that field, but I
could not do clinical psychology without a degree
and a license.
Q: How did you experience your study time
at the universities?
Dr. Sharpless: Graduate school was a lot of
work, but a lot of fun. I really enjoyed it and I am
still close to many of those people I met back then
to this day. Learning psychotherapy was amaz-
ingly hard. My first patient was a very severe
paranoid schizophrenic man and, while anxiously
waiting to start the first session, I can vividly re-
member thinking that the $10 that the Penn
State Psychological Clinic was charging for my
services was outrageously overpriced. I ended up
loving psychotherapy, and still maintain a small
practice.
Q: What inspired you to become involved
with the research in the field of rare psy-
chological disorders?
Dr. Sharpless: I was always interested in the
stranger parts of the human experience, even
when I was a kid. I used to love all those popular
books and TV documentaries on rare disorders
and strange beliefs. However, when I went to
university I became involved in researching more
“mainstream” topics like anxiety, philosophy, the
effects of trauma, etc. I’m very glad that I did,
and all those areas are still fascinating. However,
I didn’t really get to return to the earlier inter-
ests until I started my post-doc at the University
of Pennsylvania.
While there, I was involved in a very large panic
disorder treatment outcome study with access to
hundreds of research subjects.
It was a great opportunity to tack some of my in-
terests onto an existing (and funded) study. So,
given that I had access to a diverse group of peo-
ple with panic attacks, I developed an interview
to reliably assess sleep paralysis. People seemed
to be really fascinated by this topic, and I found
out some interesting things, so I’ve been re-
searching it ever since.
Sleep paralysis also became a good springboard
toward other topics like exploding head syndrome
and other unusual disorders. It’s an exciting re-
search area because so little is known about
them. The way I see it, there are dozens of good
people working on depression and PTSD, so I de-
cided to devote part of my time to disorders that
don’t get as much study.
Q: Even though your main study lies in un-
usual and rare psychological disorders,
what is the most hilarious moment in your
career?
Dr. Sharpless: Wow, there are probably too
many to count. Any time you’re teaching or lec-
turing for hours on end, you end up saying ridicu-
lous and/or stupid things. Some of them can be
funny. I remember giving a guest lecture for an
abnormal psychology class. It was for a class of
300+ students, so I had a lavalier microphone on
my blazer so that everyone could hear me. I talk
with my hands a lot when I lecture, and at some
point I accidentally hit the microphone with my
hand. It created a monumentally loud “boom”
that startled everyone and made a few people
gasp. So, I said, “Wow! I guess I shouldn’t touch
myself.” Perhaps not surprisingly, I heard a few
snickers from the crowd. So, I just decided to go
with it and then said, “Priests have been telling
me that for years.”
Apart from funny things, there are also just some
surreal moments. This happened in July when I
was giving a public lecture for a popular science
group in Sofia Bulgaria. I was in an open-air bar,
had a beer in my hand, and was talking about
clinical psychology to 250 or so non-psychologists.
We were having a great time and they asked
really astute questions. It was such a strange ex-
perience to have as an academic that I felt very
lucky to have been part of it.
Q: You told us in the beginning of the inter-
view that you are interested in a lot of
35 I The Next Truth March 2019
›››
things and that you spend the majority of
your time doing research, teaching and see-
ing patients. Do you have hobbies which are
giving a different melody to your carrier as
clinical psychologist?
Dr. Sharpless: Yes, in fact I have. I design and
play electric guitars. It’s my biggest vice. I have
around 15 or so, but don’t keep track of the exact
number. I play everything from punk and metal
to blues and classic rock.
Q: Designing and playing
electric guitars, I am as
stunned as I was im-
pressed by your Curricu-
lum Vitae of which you
gave me the privilege to
peer into. Many awards
you have received since
1996. Which of the 12
awards means the most to
you and which award
made the biggest change in
your career?
Dr. Sharpless: To be honest,
I think that publishing has led
to the biggest changes in my
life. If you write about things
that other people are inter-
ested in - especially if the gen-
eral public has an interest, too
- a whole host of opportunities present them-
selves. You can give lectures and go to confer-
ences. After a while, people start inviting you to
give talks in countries that you’ve never been to.
I found out that I love travelling more than most
things in my life, but came to it fairly late. I went
to my first international conference in 2008 and
have now been to 11 different countries. Travel-
ling and writing are probably the best parts of
my job.
Q: You being an expert in the history and
philosophy of clinical psychology, can you
give us some insight in how it all came into
being as well as what the philosophy is
within?
Dr. Sharpless: Like many academic disciplines,
psychology arose directly from philosophy. Some
of the most astute psychologists (e.g., Nietzsche,
Aristotle) were writing about important
psychological topics before anyone could actually
get a university degree in psychology.
Q: Watching your teachings via You Tube
and National Geographic documentaries,
we learn that humans throughout history
have described a peculiar state between
sleep and wakefulness characterized by pa-
ralysis, and terrifying hallucinations while
having a conscious awareness of one’s sur-
roundings. Which hallucina-
tions are the most common
ones?
Dr. Sharpless: During sleep
paralysis, you have two aspects
of rapid eye movement (REM)
sleep going on while you’re
awake. First, during this stage
of sleep we have the most dream
activity. Second, except for our
eyes we are completely para-
lyzed during REM sleep. This is
presumably so that we don’t act
out our dreams. So, during sleep
paralysis, we are paralyzed
while we are awake and often
have waking dreams as well
(i.e., hallucinations). Some of
the more common hallucina-
tions during sleep paralysis are
sensing or seeing something in
the room, feeling strange body
movements, and hearing illusory sounds.
Q: Why do you think that sleep paralyses is
this close connected in myth, folklore and
to paranormal beliefs?
Dr. Sharpless: Sleep paralysis is not a pleasant
experience for most people. Due to a number of
reasons, the hallucinations during sleep paralysis
are usually scary and involve attacks from other
people or non-human entities. Given that you’re’
paralyzed during these “assaults”, it can be abso-
lutely terrifying, as you have no means of de-
fense. Plus, given that you’re awake, you are
clearly aware that you are not just dreaming, and
the hallucinations are as vivid and “real” as any-
thing in your room right now.
Therefore, it’s not surprising that many people
have mistaken these hallucinations for real world
attacks. Many scholars believe that sleep

Dr. Sharpless: Studying unusual disorders may
not only help people who are suffering from
them, but may also teach us basic things about
how people function. For instance, studying sleep
paralysis and any of the other ways that sleep
can go wrong can tell us more about normal
sleep.
Q: Which people are most likely to be af-
fected by a sleep- and/or anxiety attack? I
mean, are disorders as such related to age,
gender, or origin?
Dr. Sharpless: Sleep
paralysis can affect
anyone and, in fact,
around 8% of the gen-
eral population will
experience it at least
once in their lives.
Certain people seem
to get it more fre-
quently, though. A
certain percentage of
people get it so regu-
larly or so severely
that it can signifi-
cantly affect their
lives. People that
have insomnia (also known as sleeplessness) or
other sleep disorders tend to get it more often.
People with histories of trauma are also more
likely to have episodes. In general, anything that
disrupts normal sleep patterns makes sleep pa-
ralysis more likely to occur.
So, if you drink alcohol before bed, take certain
drugs, suffer from certain types of anxiety, or
even just get jet-lagged after a plane ride, you are
more likely to experience an episode.
Q: Not only do you speak about sleep pa-
ralyses via television or radio, your re-
search can also be read in your book "Sleep
Paralysis: Historical, Psychological, and
Medical Perspectives" in where you, along
with Karl Doghrmaji, MD, examining this
very scary experience in sleep paralysis
from scientific and cultural perspectives.
What inspired you to write this book?
Dr. Sharpless: It is such an interesting topic I
thought it would be a lot of fun. Sleep paralysis
also has so many connections to other
paralysis is a very good naturalistic explanation
for any number of “paranormal” experiences
ranging from ghostly visitations to alien abduc-
tions. The “attacker” seems to vary according to
time, place, and culture. Whereas a 12th century
Italian may believe they were attacked by a de-
mon (e.g., a succubus), a 21st century American
may believe that they were visited by a “shadow
person”.
Q: Even this sleep disorder is connected
with unexplained phenomenon current
medical and psy-
chological research
is pointing out to a
more logical expla-
nation and various
manners in treat-
ing this disorder.
Looking at contem-
porary psychology,
what is the best
treatment for this
mysterious condi-
tion?
Dr. Sharpless:
There’s still a lot to be
learned about how to
treat it. As of today, there has not been a single
large -scale study of any treatment, but some are
promising. Certain medical drugs may be helpful
and I am currently testing a psychotherapeutic
treatment. If any of your readers are suffering
from this condition and are in the Washington
DC area, they should get in contact with me
through my website, as they may qualify to re-
ceive treatment at no cost.
www.briansharpless.com
Q: How different are contemporary treat-
ments compared to when this disorder was
first recognized?
Dr. Sharpless: Some of the earliest “treatments”
were to ward off “attacks”. These might include
amulets, using horseshoes, throwing a handful of
millet outside your bedroom door, etc. Early
medical doctors used venesection (i.e., bleeding)
and changed their patients’ diet. Today, we pri-
marily use medications and psychotherapy.
Q: Why is the research in these rare sleep-
and anxiety disorders so important?
37 I The Next Truth March 2019
Dr. Sharpless: “I think that sleep paralysis is a good,
naturalistic explanation for why people believe
they were abducted by aliens.”
Dr. Sharpless: There appears to have been a
shift in what people “see” during sleep paralysis
episodes. In the college students I’ve worked
with, the most common hallucination is of these
“shadow people”. To be honest, shadow people
somehow flew under my radar as I was reading
about all these supernatural topics, and I had to
do some digging to understand what they were.
Some people have speculated that they are time
travelers or inter-dimensional beings that, for
whatever reason, are unable to fully materialize
in our realm. Thus, they appear to be wispy and
inchoate. However, if you read
some of the earlier mytholo-
gies, there are precedents for
some aspects of their appear-
ance. Vampires, for instance,
were often seen as shadowy,
and could even turn into mist
at will.
Q: If there is any, what is
the psychological function
for humans to have these
paranormal believes con-
cerning this rare sleep dis-
order?
Dr. Sharpless: Good question.
I think it could serve a lot of
functions. I suppose that hav-
ing an explanation for some-
thing - even one that others
might disagree with - is better
than no explanation at all. We have a real human
need to understand, and sleep paralysis experi-
ences are extremely provocative.
Susan Clancy speculated that paranormal beliefs
can give a sense of order, or even purpose. Sadly,
the world doesn’t often seem to give us clear
guidelines for what to do in every situation or
how to live our lives to the fullest. Uncertainly is
uncomfortable for most of us to bear.
Q: What can someone or his /her partner do
to reduce the time period when experienc-
ing the scary moments of sleep paralyses?
Dr. Sharpless: The answer to this is, not sur-
prisingly “it depends”, as everyone is different.
Some easy things to do are to try to calm down
and recognize that you are in an episode of
sleep paralysis and not being assaulted by
subjects that I’m interested in. Since Karl and I
attacked the subject fairly broadly, it allowed me
to incorporate history, philosophy, folklore, and
the paranormal into a mainstream psychiatric
treatise.
Q: Which cultural perspectives are the most
involved?
Dr. Sharpless: This is where individual and cul-
tural differences come into play. The core aspects
of sleep paralysis seem to be the same for every-
one, but the person’s pre-existing beliefs shape
the hallucinations and, in ef-
fect, add the “color”.
Just by being human, we all
have a massive need to under-
stand our world. We’re quite
limited creatures, though, and
can only use what we have
around us to make sense of
things. So, when we have
strange events like sleep pa-
ralysis, we use the explanatory
categories that we have in or-
der to try to understand them.
So, if we believe that we are in
a world populated by witches
and demons, they are the
cause. If we are in a world of
brain science, a problem with
neurotransmitters might make
more sense. Interestingly, some
people I’ve worked with who
know all about the scientific theories for sleep
paralysis still believe that it is an actual
“supernatural” attack. Pre-existing beliefs can be
very powerful.
Q: Googling your book "Sleep Paralysis: His-
torical, Psychological, and Medical Perspec-
tives “via Amazon, we can read in the de-
scription; “Early interpretations of this event
were that it was an actual attack by malevolent
and supernatural entities such as demons, ghosts,
or witches. Some of these beliefs persist to the pre-
sent day in the form of nocturnal visitations by
extraterrestrials and shadow people.”
Apart from your scientific research, what
are your personal thoughts of what these
shadows are and what is the science behind
these eerie shadows that seem to have a cer-
tain kind of density?

The average adult human brain
weighs in at 1300 to 1400 grams (3
pounds). In terms of length, around 15
centimeters long and makes up about
2 % of a human's body weight.
They are sensed, seen, and then felt. So, for in-
stance, a patient may wake up with the vague
feeling that they are being watched. Next, their
brain organizes this into an image. Finally, this
“being” or “object” is no longer occurring in a
purely visual modality, but is now heard, felt, or
even smelled.
Thank you Dr. Sharpless for your time and
open minded answers. You have brought us
definitely a little bit closer in understand-
ing some of the bizarre effects which come
with sleep disorders by e.g. pointing out to
the historical and modern science behind it
all. I would like to invite you back for the
issue of April. We then can discus i.e. the
infamous cataleptic attack/shocks, take a
closer look at your books and how sleep pa-
ralysis can declare UFO abductions.
Dr. Sharpless: Sure. I would love to come back
and discus the varied connections which come
with unusual and rare sleep disorders. And

this condition and are in the Washington DC
area, they can contact me through my website, as

an evil entity. Next, a number of people have
found it helpful to try to move a single body part.
For instance, try to move a finger or wiggle your
big toe. There are a few easy ways to prevent
sleep paralysis. For instance, try not to sleep on
your back. The research is extremely clear that
episodes are far more likely to occur in that posi-
tion. Also, keep your sleep consistent. Go to bed
and wake up at the same times every day (yes,
even on weekends).
Q: With my humble knowledge in psychol-
ogy and neuroscience, may I throw in an
idea within this phenomenon of ‘shadow
people’. Is it possible that these shadows
are caused by a strange form of vibration in
the liquid of the eye which becomes a stand-
ing wave when it is reflecting on the back-
side of the lens? Could such an effect in re-
flection be triggered by the released exited
electron energy from a, by external infra- or
ultrasound, charged Claustrum hitting the
retina cones, while absorbing radiated UV-
light, when directed through the optic
nerve?
Dr. Sharpless: It’s possible that there could be a
physical reason for shadow people like that. In-
terestingly, there seems to be a progression of
sleep paralysis hallucinations.

By doing so this new area is changing the ener-
gies and the frequency of the planet was raised.
In 2012 the new frequencies were fully anchored
and now these frequencies became lighter and as
a result, inter dimensional communication is eas-
ier. Therefore more people are becoming con-
nected to spirit and raising the profile in the
field, unfortunately not always in a good way.
2012, it was the end of a familiar era and the be-
ginning of the Age of Aquarius. https://
earthsky.org/human-world/when-will-the-age-of-

fect on negative vibrating entities; it agitates
them and affects them in one of two ways. They
do not like the higher frequencies and want to
leave the planet so to speak, or they can
y name is Kevin Spindloe and I am the Co-
founder and Team Medium of PRY
(Paranormal Research York). PRY is a new team
made up of experienced paranormal investigators
who are all local to York and have come together
to investigate predominantly in the city of York.
PRY consists from a mix of believers and non-
believers and will always seek the logical expla-
nation first. Researching every aspect of the loca-
tion to be investigated, we are able to build com-
plex time lines with compelling evidence and re-
build the story of historical events including the
people who were involved what then will provide
detailed reports with excellent results.
I have been involved with spirits for most of my
life with a strong interest in the paranormal. I’m
not religious, I believe in a multi-dimensional
world but I do believe in a creator of some form.
As an experienced Medium I tend to look at the
pragmatic angle while working in the ‘new vibra-
tions’ which can be different to other Mediums.
Let me begin by helping you understand the new
vibrations. Up until recently Mediums were
working with the well-known vibrations which,
most of the time, speak of the rising of a univer-
sal consciousness while a new gate or realm has
being opened all by the same energy or wave.
These vibrations are the motion of physical and
non-physical atoms within all matter and sub-
stances, and are measured by their frequency per
second. Touch, sound, odour, taste and sight are
each characterized by particular ranges of vibra-
tions and all phenomena perceived by these
senses occur within defined ranges of vibration.
These vibrations made many people think the
world was ending in 1999 and in various years up
until 2012. I, on the other hand, have been
taught that the Earth is shifting, or sliding, into
a different area of the universe.

A ‘New’ Look at ‘Old’ Vibrations Does it open a new awareness?
40 I The Next Truth March 2019
An example; A young man was involved in a
hanging of a horse thief, horse thieves were
hanged by being positioned on horseback with a
noose around their necks, and the horse is then
startled and allowed to run leaving the guilty
hanging until dead. The young man wasn’t the
one who was hanged but the one who spooked the
horse to make it bolt. This was part of his initia-
tion to make him a man. His guilt stayed with
him for those hundreds of years until we were
able to pass him back to higher vibrations.
I believe that spirits have a story to tell and at
PRY we give them that voice through various
means. We use traditional methods such as crys-
tal pendulums and divining rods and even a hu-
man pendulum to get “yes-no” answers to our
questions. https://haunted-discoveries.co.uk/
db/2018/05/02/the-human-pendulum/ We use new
technology such as EMF meters, Sprit Boxes that
allows spirits to communicate audibly across the
white radio frequencies (white noise) and voice
recorders that record electronic voice phenome-
non (EVP) and record those sounds which are in-
audible to the human ear. I also believe that peo-
ple will find their own proof eventually and then
what we do is well worth our efforts! As a team
we also believe that we need to be accurate and
truthful in everything we do, I would never want
to fake anything to succed.
At PRY, we understand that we are unlikely to
provide definitive proof of life after death to the
world; however, we will never stop trying.

choose to stay and try to beat it. This still agi-
tates them and they become more active and be-
gin to influence more and more people. It is the
equivalent to turning the heat up in a room, some
will passively leave if there is an open door and
some will get angry that the heat has been
turned up. However, the energy will get stronger
in the coming years and the two scenarios will
continue.
At PRY I am using my skills and experience to
help clients have the best experience they can
while they are with us for our events and work-
shops. But my work is mainly focused on soul
rescue; also know as ‘spirit rescue’. Soul rescue is
about helping ghosts, or earthbound spirits, to
cross-over. From their perspective, they are still
the same person as they were when they were
‘alive’. But between their reality and ours time is
distorted in such a way that their energy is un-
aware that several years, or even several decades
may have gone by from the time when they were
alive. Each ‘ghost’ has the ability to view the
world in a way that makes sense to them. If an
entity still believes that he or she is living in the
year 1650, everything that he or she observes will
be from that time period. Instead of airplanes,
cars and freeways, the spirit may see horse-
drawn carriages and stone covered roads.
As a medium working with new vibrations, I lis-
ten to their stories to give them peace and try to
escort these spirits so they can be released from
these dimensions.
