Cleanse your body while remaining active with Dr. Katie’s juice fast guide.
“Benefits of juice fasting include: giving your digestion a break, increasing energy, a hunger “reset”, and jump-starting weight loss. After going through a juice fast, patients may find they are better able to choose foods that are good for them and don’t need the super pro-cessed, salted and sugary foods so prevalent in the standard American diet. Juice fasts can be maintained, if done with care, for up to 30 days.
Symptoms you may experience during the fast include headache, light-headedness, fatigue, “brain fog,” irritability, and hunger. They should pass within the first 24-48 hours, revealing a higher level of energy, mental clarity, and a sense of well-being. Activities to do while fast-ing: stretching, deep breathing, relaxing, journ-aling, listening to positive music; use your time as a fast for the body and spirit, feed your spirit with activities that elevate your mood without using substances or food.”
NOTE: I recommend always purchasing organic produce when at all possible — particularly when you are going to consume all parts of the fruit or vegetable.

How to Plan & What to Expect
ONE WEEK BEFORE THE FAST
DAY 1 OF JUICE CLEANSE
Eat an anti-inflammatory diet - Avoid these foods in any form: dairy, wheat, sugar, eggs, processed foods (including meats), caffeine, alcohol and any of your known food sensitivities.
Today is the day to stop eating solid foods, however, you may use this as a transition day to liquids eating only a small amount of brown rice and steamed veggies if your hunger is unbearable or you have other undesirable symptoms. Otherwise, follow the daily blueprint.
BREAKFAST
• 2 – 4 Glasses (8 oz)Fruit and Veggie Juice or Master Cleanse Recipe
• Unlimited Water
Upon rising, drink 1 glass of filtered water then a second glass of water with 1 tbs lemon juice (either fresh or preservative-free, pure lemon juice). After lemon juice water, rinse your mouth. This volume of fluid should encourage your first bowel movement of the day. After this BM is the ideal time to take your weight.
Optional: Follow your fluid with a home enema (fill enema bag with body temperature water with 1 tsp sea salt). Retain enema fluid for 5-15 minutes, laying on your left side, right side, your back and (if you can handle it) your stomach. Massage the abdomen to encourage flow through the colon.

• Unlimited Water

• 2 – 4 Glasses (8 oz)Fruit and Veggie Juice or Master Cleanse Recipe

BREAKING THE FASTTreat the period of 5-7 days following your cleanse with utmost care and consideration. Use this time to honor the tremendous work you have done. Come out of the cleanse the same way you entered it — use your last juice day to ease into easily digestible foods, choosing smoothies and soups (your digestive juices have decreased due to the cleanse and will take a few meals to increase once more). Avoid inflammatory foods for the next 5-7 days, slowly increasing the number of solid foods you take in. Well done!
