PRELUDE He Leadeth Me L. N. Porter CHIMING OF THE HOUR WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
We are delighted that you have joined us this Lord’s Day. If you are interested in membership, we invite you to speak to Rev. Susan. Thank you for being with us!
GATHERING AROUND GOD’S WORD
CHORAL INTROIT God the sculptor of the mountains Amanda Husberg
(GTG #5, vs. 1-2) CHILDREN’S TIME CALL TO WORSHIP
Leader: Return, beloved of God, to the fold. God welcomes you to this hour of prayer.
Congregation: God calls us by name and awaits our coming. God summons us out of hiding. Leader: God is like a shepherd, caring for her flocks. God is like a gardener, carefully tending his vines. Congregation: Surely God has provided richly for us. Our lives are sustained by God’s good gifts. Leader: Worship the one who longs for our coming. Sing praise to the one who expects our faithfulness. Congregation: We call on God, who gives us life. May God’s face shine on us to save us.
PRAYER OF PRAISE: from Catherine of Siena Thanks, thanks be to you, high eternal Godhead, that you have shown us
such great love by fashioning us with these gracious powers in our soul: understanding to know you; memory to keep you in mind; to hold you within ourselves; will and love to love you more than anything else. It is only reasonable that I should love you, infinite goodness, once I know you. And so powerful is this love that neither demon nor anyone else can take it away from us unless we so will. Amen.
*HYMN 354 Mine Eyes Have Seen the Glory CALL TO CONFESSION
Trusting in God’s hopes for us, let us come before God with contrite hearts, asking for reconciliation and seeking peace.
PRAYER OF CONFESSION God of hope, we confess our disregard of your care... our doubt of your
providence... our blindness to signs of your love. We are afraid to risk our comforts to find new life; we separate ourselves from you and from others and foster divisions between those you love. Help us to amend our lives and make us your faithful people who bear the good fruit of your Word in the world. Through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
*Please stand as you are able.
CHORAL RESPONSE God the dresser of the vineyard Amanda Husberg (GTG #5, vs. 3) DECLARATION OF FORGIVENESS
God hears our confession, rejoicing as we desire amendment of life. God lifts us from our despondency to rejoice in the company of the saints. God acknowledges the forces that separate us, and brings us to peace. Rejoice in the knowledge of our reconciliation and a life lived in the presence of God.
*GLORIA PATRI HYMN NO. 581 Glory be to the Creator, and to the Christ and to the Holy Ghost.
As it was in the beginning, is now and always shall be, world without end!
Amen, amen.
THE PEACE Leader: Let us now share the peace which Jesus made possible.........
Peace be with you. Congregation: And also with you. Leader: Please greet those near to you with the peace of Christ. ANTHEM Sing Praise to God, Our Strength of Old (Ps. 61) Franz Joseph Haydn
Sing praise to God, our strength of old, and ages count on ages roll'd; with lasting joy thy servant's eyes shall see his children's children rise. Safe in thy presence let us stand, and share the blessings of thy hand;
our dwelling let thy truth defend, thy mercy on our steps attend. So shall thy love awake our song, thy name the willing note prolong,
while warm'd with zeal, our vows we pay, and bless thee to our latest day. PROCLAIMING GOD’S WORD PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION:
God of Wisdom, we eagerly seek your presence in our lives and in the world. By your Spirit, speak your word to us, and give us your grace to recognize the abundant signs of your care for us, so that we might be freed to act in the world with courage and abandon. Amen.

Questions for Reflection
How do you reconcile a sense of division within yourself
and the world with the unity we are promised as the people of God? What sustains you in times of conflict?
Identify some occasions in your life when you were unable to recognize an invitation to reconciliation and
wholeness.
Please consider volunteering for our Samaritan Ministry this Tuesday
August 20 and/or any month hereafter.. It is an easy task that goes
much smoother with two people taking it on! If you are interested, please contact Bill Werts - [email protected].
Two are better than one because they have a good reward for their labor. Ecclesiastes 4:9
