Downtown is Centre StageDowntown Vancouver is peninsula with water on two sides and Stanley Park on a third. It’s a planned city, so most streets run parallel or perpendicular to the water making navigating its distinct districts easy to do on foot.
Granville Street is at the centre of downtown. With more than 100 funky, unique and affordable retail stores, restaurants, hotels and clubs, it’s a great destination to shop, people watch, listen to buskers or visit the BC Entertainment Hall of Fame’s Star Walk. Check out the 12 one-of-a-kind electrical boxes decorated by Emily Carr University of Art & Design students. During the Summer, enjoy Viva Vancouver each weekend when the street is for pedestrians only.
Home to 13 beautiful historical buildings reflecting its heritage as the city’s original main commerce street is Hastings West. Today it showcases unique luxury retailers. Relax on the rotating platforms called Working Landscape (1998; Daniel Laskarin) in the parkette on Hastings @ Hornby or step back in time in the art deco gem Marine Building, 355 Burrard St.
Food is an art form in Vancouver. With over 200 restaurants, a variety of ethnic and continental cuisines will tempt your palate. From elegant fine dining to casual cuisine, to a to a wide array of street food carts, downtown is the spot for great dining.
Downtown Vancouver hosts many annual festivals andevents throughout the year, ranging from the International Bhangra Celebration, Word on the Street, Vancouver ComedyFest, the TD International Jazz Festival, to the DOXA Documentary Film Festival.
Make sure to visit Vancouver’s theatres for outstanding live performances, including the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, Vancouver Playhouse and the Orpheum Theatre.
Tourism Vancouver’s Tickets Tonight (Plaza Level, 200 Burrard Street) provides you with access to an amazing variety of arts, cultural and performing arts events. Vancouver only same-day, half-price ticket outlet. Visit us online ticketstonight.ca
