Is your workplace kitchen deadly?
Before you answer, here are a few things to think about:
• Is every employee trained in fire prevention?
• What about first aid training? Have your employees completed refresher courses at least every two years?
• Does your workplace kitchen have suitable fire blankets and extinguishers?

O In any workplace, you have to take care of your co-workers’ safety as well as your own. A kitchen is no exception to this.
O You can make the kitchen a safer workplace by following a few simple steps.
Tips that could save a life (or a limb)
• When carrying a knife, always point the tip towards
the ground, never in front of you
• If you smell gas, check the stove. Don’t ignore it.
• Always let people know if you are moving hot foods around the area. Yes, you can shout “hot stuff, coming through!”
• Clean up any substances, especially oil or liquid soaps, before they cause a slip, trip fall and you will have an accident.
