He regularly testifies as an expertwitness.

JasonfoundedDFIRLABS in2014after leavingtheSpecial InvestigatingUnit,wherehewasthenationalheadoftheCyberForensicLaboratory.Inthisrole,he was responsible for the development and implementation of the digitalforensics capacityof the Special InvestigatingUnit, and in conductingdigitalforensics engagements on several high profile cyber-crime, fraud andcorruptioncaseswithintheSouthAfricanpublicsector.

PriortojoiningtheSpecialInvestigatingUnit in1998,JasonasaDetectiveinthe South African Police Service Commercial Branch where he conductednumerouswhite-collarcrimeinvestigations.

Jasonisalsoanactiveadvisor,assessor,academic,researcherandtraining inthe local and international digital forensics and information securitycommunities.Hecurrentlyteachesdigital forensicsand incident responseatRhodes University, as well as for the SANS Institute and the InternationalAssociationofComputerInvestigativeSpecialistsinNorthAmerica,theMiddleEast,andEurope.HealsoservesontheAdvisoryBoardfortheDepartmentofComputerScienceattheUniversityofPretoria.

He currently serves as an assessor for the Netherlands Register of CourtExperts, and is responsible for the assessment of the competency of digitalforensicspractitionerstestifyingincourtintheNetherlands.HealsoservesontheexpertadvisorypaneloftheDeputyMinisterofJusticeinSouthAfricaforcyber-crimelegislation.

His digital forensics research has been published in textbooks and ininternational peer-reviewed journals, and he is a frequent speaker atprofessional,scientificandtechnicalconferences.HeisalsotheChairpersonofResearch and Development for the International Association of ComputerInvestigativeSpecialists.
