Message from the President of City Council
Welcome to the Denver City Council!
The Denver City Council, created in 1904, is the legislative branch of government for the City and County of Denver. We represent more than 600,000 residents in 11 council districts with two of our members representing Denver at large. We serve at the pleasure of the residents of Denver and work tirelessly to engage our citizens and ensure we meet their needs.
As a nonpartisan government body, our primary goal is ensuring that residents receive city services consistently and equitably. Council members serve on committees that cover all aspects of keeping our city running, from arts and culture to zoning and land use.
On Monday nights the Denver City Council convenes to handle the city’s legislative business. We encourage public engagement through a variety of channels, including comment periods in committee, live broadcasts on Denver Channel 8 TV, and public hearings. Please tune in to our next meeting and share your thoughts with us!
For more information about the City Council, our public meetings, legislation and more, visit our websites or call our offices. We look forward to hearing from you.

COUNCIL DISTRICT #10 President 2008 - 2009
City Councilmakes laws, budgets City money, and can investigate City agencies.
Since 1971, the Council has had 13 members — 11 from equally
populated districts and two elected at large. Council members, who must be at least 25 years old,
U.S. citizens, and two-year Denver residents, are all elected at the
same time every four years. Council committees, each concerned with
various areas of city government, meet frequently to discuss and
prepare proposed laws. The whole Council routinely meets on Monday
nights with a few exceptions.
