Thanksgiving!
December Newsletter
Thanksgiving may have come and gone by the time you read this, but we continue to be thankful people.
We are thankful for Cheryl Page and Sandy Rader who prepared our DELICIOUS Thanksgiving Dinner!
We are thankful for our Diaconate’s leadership in a food drive for Harvest Hope. Over 836 pounds of food and
$529 were given! Thanks to Joanne Willis and Jean Danner who delivered it. And congratulations to Joanne
Willis and her Deacon Family Group who collected the most—winning the Golden Turkey Award! Second
place went to the Quentin Oswalt/Cheryl Page Deacon Family Group.
We are thankful for Sam Watt’s organization of the DMA trip to the Greek Orthodox Cathedral and Villa
Tronco. Twenty-one of us were inspired by the beautiful art and the grandeur of their sanctuary. A big plus
was our nice lunch together.
We are thankful for the individuals who have stepped forward to be on the Leadership Council and Diaconate,
prepare Narthex Fellowship, serve in Extended Session, and Greet on Sunday mornings!
We are thankful to have hosted seven of our neighboring congregations for a Community Thanksgiving Service.
There is a richness in bringing our faith traditions together.
We are thankful for our beautiful sanctuary and building—for those
who have gone before us and had a vision for the years to come—
and for those today who attend to its maintenance and upkeep.
We are thankful for the ways God is using this congregation to minister
within our community and throughout the world. Our preschool meets a
huge need among young parents in our neighborhood. Our support of
Koinonia in the Eau Clair community and Cooperative Ministries helps
children and families become more grounded and healthy. Our giving to
CBF Global Missions works in many countries and among forgotten
people groups—providing hope through the
Gospel, through education, through medical
missions, and through many other ministries.
We are thankful people at Kathwood!
Thanks be to God.

Giving Updates
Adding to the celebration of Advent, the DMA group will tour the Mepkin Abbey Crèche Festival in Monck’s Corner, Thursday, December 5. Stars created by friends of the Abbey will guide the tour as we “Come to the Stable” viewing crèches from around the world.
Following the tour, the group will lunch at the Five Loaves Café in Summerville. Famous for their soups, salads, and sandwiches the café offers good food and fellowship.
Leaving the church at 8:30, the group will travel by van and cars. Reservations are 11:00 at the Abbey and 1:30-2:00 at the restaurant. Because of the late lunch, individuals might want to bring a snack and beverage.
Reservations are limited so please secure your place with the church office by Monday, December 2. Join us as we “Come to the Stable”.

In case you didn’t see, and taste the cake made by Kevin Krumm—here’s a picture.
It was fabulous!
Preschool Happenings
Share the abundant life of Christ by giving to the Offering for Global Missions.
100% of your gift will send CBF field personnel to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ around the world.
CBF Disaster Response mobilizes members and networks seeking to help communities after a devastating event. Many of our resources are directed to the long-term recovery, rehabilitation, and resiliency of a community after first-responders have finished their work. Through donations, volunteering, and with Life Pack, we can support individuals who have experienced a devastating event and are now in crisis.
Life Packs are supplies to help people who are recovering from disasters such as the recent hurricanes in the Bahamas and Florida. Life Packs include things like water filters, flashlights, first aid kits, soap, tooth brushes, and scripture and thoughts for those dealing with disaster.
Our goal at Kathwood Baptist Church this December is to donate $1000 to CBF global missions. Life Pack is one way to show Christ’s love to our brothers and sisters who are suffering through disaster, poverty, and many other difficult situations. Let’s share God’s love this Christmas season!
Plans are in place for fun things in December.
One of our events is open to all, and that is COOKIES WITH SANTA!
This fun family event is December 14th from 9:00 to 11:00 in the Kathwood Fellowship Hall.
Parents can take their child’s picture with Santa AND Mrs. Claus. There will be cookies to decorate and eat and a craft to complete. This is available to your friends and neighbors for a donation of $10.
During December, Kathwood children will be making a special ornament. The older children will be presenting a special Christmas program on December 17th.
The best part of being in a faith-based Preschool is the chance to share the real meaning of Christmas with the children. The Story never gets old; it’s always special.
We anticipate lots of fun and excitement in the coming month. The Preschool will be closed December 20th-January 1st. Blessings to all at this most wonderful time of the year!
Mark your calendars now. Our annual Christmas dinner
will be held on Wednesday, December 18. We will serve
baked ham along with delicious sides and homemade
desserts. Following the dinner, our Kathwood children will
present their Christmas music program for us to enjoy.

Advent Worship 2019
Advent Special Music

We’re Having a Diaper Shower
Advent is always a special time in Worship at Kathwood. This year is no exception. We’ll be featuring a special Advent hymn during the Lighting of the Advent Wreath. I always enjoy seeing so many families participating in this part of the service. In addition to hymns and service music, the Chancel Choir will be offering additional anthems. On December 15th, the Choir will be singing two anthems which will be accompanied by string quartet. The quartet, led by Beth Reed, will also play familiar arrangements of seasonal hymns and carols.
On Wednesday, December 18th, at 6:30pm in the sanctuary, our children will be sharing Christmas songs. Juli Hancock has been teaching them well; it should be a special treat.
Our Christmas Eve Service (5:30pm) is a special time to remember Christ’s birth, sing familiar Christmas hymns and carols, and share communion with our Kathwood family. Everyone loves singing Silent Night by candlelight. I hope you can be a part of this beautiful service.
I look forward to worshiping with you this season!

Mark your calendar and plan to join your church family on Sunday, Dec. 8, as we celebrate Nicole and Mason Frier and their new baby, Isabella Kathryn, with a diaper shower. We are planning this during our Sunday narthex fellow-ship time. Isabella Kathryn was born on September 24. We invite you to bring different sizes of diapers (size 2 and up) and Pampers Sensitive Wipes. She’s growing fast. More details coming soon.
A big thank you to all who have been so helpful with our property committee this year. We appreciate your
willingness to help with all of our projects. We appreciate your prayers, and your donations to specific needs!
