This fall travel course fulfills the Citizenship graduation requirement and offers travel to
Cuba in January. Global Citizenship Cuba provides UNE students the unique opportunity
to volunteer in and explore an exciting new era of U.S.-Cuba relations by spending nine
days in Havana and in the small coastal town of Varadero. While there, students will
perform volunteer activities on an organic farming cooperative and in a local elementary
school. Students will also engage in cultural learning, exploring the history and impacts
of the Cuban Revolution, the music and dance of Cuba and the national games of baseball
and dominoes. To register, students must have completed at least 60 course credits.
Registration priorities are given to students minoring in Latin American Studies and/or
those who have completed or are enrolled in Spanish 211 (or an equivalent intermediate
Spanish course). Students are encouraged to apply for travel scholarships in the Global
Education Office.
