Cub Scouting is known for using a
theme to bring excitement to pack
meetings and events held for Cubs
and their families. We think it
should be used in all Cub Scouting
Trainings too!
“CUBS ON THE SANTA FE TRAIL” was chosen as
our theme for both weeks of the Extravaganza.
We’ll travel the trail each day celebrating our past
and the present while at the National Boy Scouts of
America’s official Training Center for Scouters.
While enjoying the beautiful scenery of Philmont
during your time there, you will also be
experiencing “one of a kind Scouting & Pioneer
history!”
Scouting: There have been over one million scouts
who have hiked the trails and mountains of
Philmont. The Philmont Training Center has served
over 274,000 Scouters and their families since
1950,with educational experiences that last a
lifetime!
Pioneer: The Santa Fe Trail traveled through the
land known as Philmont today, from 1821-1880. In
1880 the railroad was introduced. On May 29, 2013
the National Park Service and Philmont Scout
Ranch opened a four mile hiking trail that follows a
section of the Santa Fe National Historic Trail.

The Tooth of Time, a geological feature on the Philmont Scout Ranch, is one of Philmont's most popular sights. The Tooth of Time was well-known among the overland traders on the Santa Fe Trail, who used it to mark the final seven-day push to Santa Fe, New Mexico.
