Project planning Critical path analysis
Activities that have no float are critical activities.
Delay in a critical activity will cause delay to the overall project completion date.
Joining all critical activities in a PERT diagram identifies the critical path.
The critical path is the longest path through a PERT diagram.
The total time on the critical path is the shortest time in which the project can be completed.
Project planning Formula
EST + duration = EFTLFT - duration = LSTFloat = LST - EST
RulesWhen an activity has multiple
predecessor activities, on a forward pass use the highest EFT as the next EST.
When an activity has multiple successor activities, on a backward pass use the lowest LST as the next LFT.
