Introduction
These 10 questions are for you to use to help get ready for the load chart and rigging part of the CraneSafe Certification assessment for Friction Lattice Crane.
The questions on your assessment will be different from these but will be presented in the same format as these questions.
Following the questions are load charts and jib rating charts. We have not included all of the charts for this crane - but everything you need to answer the questions is included in the load and jib charts you have here. You do not need the crane manual or full load chart package to answer the questions.
Following the load charts are rigging tables - use these to help answer the rigging questions included in the practice questions. These same rigging charts will be used in your assessment so it is a good idea to become familiar with them.
Attached to the back of this practice exercise is an answer sheet. The answer sheet explains how we arrived at the correct answer and you can use this to help work through any questions you may have gotten wrong.

This rating chart is invalid if the crane has been modified or altered by use of other than GENUINE AMERICANPARTS as such modifications or alterations may affect its capacity or safe operation. See American CraneCorporation Service Bulletin #259.
Ratings in this chart are in POUNDS and do not exceed the percentage of tipping specified for this crane by ANSIB30.5. All ratings require that the crane be standing level on a firm uniformly supporting surface.
Do not lift loads in excess of those shown on this chart. Lifting loads in excess of those shown or operation not inaccordance with good operating practice, including limitations shown on page 3499 of Operator's Manual, can causetipping, structural damage or catastrophic failure.
" RADIUS IN FEET " is the horizontal distance at ground level from the crane centerline of rotation to a vertical linethrough the center of gravity of the suspended load.
When using the main boom fall with jib in place, the main fall ratings must be reduced by the jib effective weight shownon the jib rating chart plus twice the weight of all suspended blocks, slings, rope, etc., at the jib fall. See Appendix A.
When using the main boom fall with boom tip extension in place, the main fall ratings must be reduced by the weight ofthe boom tip extension plus twice the weight of all suspended blocks, slings, rope, etc., at the boom tip extension fall.See Appendix A.
Blocks, slings, buckets and other load carrying devices are considered part of the load. The weight of standard hoistingropes for the rating at a given radius has been calculated as part of the boom point load and need not be considered indetermining net allowable loads. See Appendix A.
This chart was developed exclusively for use with a boom only. Under no circumstances are these ratings to beinterpreted for use with a jib.
Ratings shown on this chart make no allowance for such factors as out of plumb loads, wind, poor soil conditions, improper inflation of rubber tires and dynamic effects due to excessive operating speeds. The user (operator) mustexercise judgement to make allowance for these conditions. See page 3499 of Operator's Manual for detailedinformation.
No account is taken of the wind force on the load. This effect, which can be substantial for loads with large surfaceareas, must be considered by the user. In any wind it is strongly recommended that taglines be used to control the load.
BOOM HOIST LINE is 10 parts of 0.625 inch diameter 6x26, WS, FW, RAL, IWRC, EIPS wire rope with a minimumbreaking strength of 41,200 pounds.
BOOM PENDANT SUSPENSION is 2 parts of 1.125 inch diameter MONOLAY wire rope with a minimum breakingstrength of 140,600 pounds.
MAIN LOAD LINE is 0.875 inch diameter 6x25, FW, RRL, IWRC, EIPS wire rope with a minimum breaking strength of79,600 pounds.

Answer Key
1. Answer: 4 parts
Gross Load:
Block 1,200 pounds
Rigging 500 pounds
Load 67,000 pounds
68,700 pounds
4 parts of line are good for 90,970 pounds
2. Answer: 15,030 pounds
Gross Capacity at a 62.8 degree boom angle is 15,030 pounds.
When the boom angle is between listed values use the next lower boom angle to determine the capacity.
3. Answer: 5,370 pounds
Deductions from Gross Capacity:
Ball 325 pounds
Rigging 75 pounds
400 pounds
When the radius is between listed values use the next longer radius to determine capacity.
Gross Capacity at a 90 foot radius is 5,770 pounds minus deductions of 400 pounds which equals a Net Capacity of 5,370 pounds.

4. Answer: 40 feet
Gross Load:
Block 1,200 pounds
Rigging 150 pounds
Load 14,000 pounds
15,350 pounds
Gross Capacity at a 40 foot radius is 15,970 pounds which is more than the deductions of 15,350 pounds.
5. Answer: 20,010 pounds
Deductions from Gross Capacity:
Block 1,200 pounds
30 foot jib 1,400 pounds
Ball (2 x 325) 650 pounds
3,250 pounds
Warning: When using the main boom fall with jib erected the main fall ratings must be reduced by twice the weight of all suspended blocks, slings, etc. at the jib fall.
Gross Capacity at a 35 foot radius is 23,260 pounds minus deductions of 3,250 pounds which equals a Net Capacity of 20,010 pounds.
6. Answer: 7,135 pounds
Deductions from Gross Capacity:
Block 1,200 pounds
Ball 325 pounds
1,525 pounds
When the radius is between listed values use the next longer radius to determine capacity.
Gross Capacity at a 70 foot radius is 8,660 pounds minus deductions of 1,525 pounds which equals a Net Capacity of 7,135 pounds.
