BUSINESS CASE CNH
On the 1st of January 2011, FIAT Group was demerged in two groups: Fiat SpA Automotive with famous brands such as Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Ferrari, Maserati, Chrysler and Fiat Industrial, whose portfolio includes among others Case New Holland and Iveco.
Sadi, a member of Fiat Services Belgium takes care of, among other things, the customs formalities for the various entities in the Fiat group in western Europe. When the consolidation hub near Antwerp had to be
made ready in 2013 for massive centralisation of the European export activities, Fiat was faced with the challenge of organising the various complex customs procedures. Speed and flexibility were of crucial importance in establishing this role as a consolidation hub.

WEIGHT, TIME AND COST With 75 suppliers in 8 EU member states, all sending partial consignments to the consolida-tion hub near Antwerp, Sadi was confronted with a whole range of different export and transport procedures. To nevertheless guarantee correct export proce-dures, limit the transit times and keep the costs under control, the company had to streamline its customs procedures to the maxi-mum.

STRATEGICALLY LOCATED PORT
To meet the requirement for simplified customs procedures, the various possibilities were weighed up in close consultation with Belgian Customs & Excise and the Trade Facilitation department of Antwerp Port Authority. An efficient solution was finally found based on “domiciliation” and “agreed location.”
In the next steps the stream of administrative formalities was centralised in the e-Desk and an IT application was developed by the Antwerp Port Community System to generate the exit confirmations required by EU law. The e-Desk enables the information in the export declaration to be exchanged between the broker and the exit customs office. The container number and the exit declaration can easily be created in the e-Desk, avoiding the submission of paper export documents.
CONSTANTLY AVAILABLE SUPPLY
Thanks to the reliable and flexible tailor-made procedures that structure the process and streamline the flow of goods and information, many different export consignments can now be handled through the port of Antwerp and Fiat is able to save costs through efficiencies of scale. This higher level of efficiency is expected to bring an increase in the volume.
