MYRRHA LINAC - Why R&D?
2
A conceptual design of an ADS-type high power proton linac has been initiated by EURATOM Framework Programmes 5 and 6 (PDS‐XADS and EUROTRANS projects)
The MYRRHA linac has a challenging reliability goal• less than 10 failures over a 3 month operation cycle (a failure
being identified as a beam trip longer than 3 sec)
R&D programs are now focused on:• Advanced beam dynamics and error studies• Reliability modeling• Optimization of the injector design and
construction• Prototype cryomodule design and operation
