Gulati Institute of Finance and Taxation (GIFT), formerly Centre forTaxationstudies(CTS),isanautonomousinstitutionofGovernmentofKerala.In2009,withagenerousfinancialsupportfromGovernmentofIndia,GovernmentofKeralaupgradedandrenamedCTSasGIFTafterthe renowned economist late Professor I.S. Gulati, who was closelyassociatedwith theGovernment of Kerala notably asVice-chairman,Kerala State Planning Board.
TheoverallgovernanceoftheInstituteisbyaGoverningBodypresentlychaired by Hon’ble Finance Minister Dr TM Thomas Isaac and its members include senior administrators from State and Central Government,eminenteconomists,notedlegalandmanagementexperts.
Affiliated to the Cochin University of Science andTechnology for itsPhDProgram,GIFT is engaged in teaching, training, consultancy andcuttingedgeresearchonissuesrelatedtoPublicFinance,Taxation,Law,Accounting,ManagementandGovernance.Whileitsempiricallybasedandtheoretically informedresearchservesan input forpolicymakingat the regionalandnational level, its consultancyservicesareavailedbyvariousgovernmentdepartments,publicenterprisesandcorporates.
GIFTinfluencespolicyformulation,apartfromitsresearch,byservingasaplatformfordeliberatingonissuesofcontemporaryrelevanceatthenationalandregionallevelbybringingtogetherdifferentstakeholders.The institutebringsout its researchoutput in the formofdiscussionpapers/workingpapers,monographsandresearchreports.Themonthlylaw journal -KeralaTaxReporter (KTR)publishedsince the inceptionof the institute (1992) is a much-acclaimed journal by jurists, taxpractitionersandlegalexperts
The institute has been offering a diploma program, Post GraduateDiploma in Taxation (PGDT), since 1993which enabled the diplomaholderstoenrollasSalesTax/ValueAddedTaxPractitionersinKerala.In2004anotherprogram,DiplomainSalesTaxation(DST),waslaunchedto equip small traders, entrepreneurs and accountantswith practicalknowledgeintheareasofSalesTax/VAT&Accounting.

Introduction
Finance and Taxation are two areas that offer immense careeropportunities both in public and private sector in the areas of law,financialaccountingandmanagementespeciallywiththe introductionof Goods and Services Tax (GST) in India. Taking this in view, GIFTlaunched thePostGraduateDiploma inGoods and ServicesTaxation(PGD-GST) in 2018. The program is designed to cater to the ever-growingdemandfromtradeandindustryforcompetentandskilledGSTprofessionals liketaxpractitioners,accountants,andlegalconsultants.Unlike conventional academic courses offered by Universities, PGD-GSTwill focus on imparting practical skills through training sessionsonallaspectsofGSTlaws,procedures&accounts.Thiscourseenablestheparticipants to acquire professional skills inGSTwhichhavehighdemand in trade and industry.
Course Vision
ThePGD-GSTprogramenvisagestohelptransformingGSTinto‘GoodandSimpleTax’forallconcernedasarticulatedbytheGovernmentofIndiabycreatingahighlyaccomplishedandaccountabletaxpersonnelwhohelpindustryandbusinesstocomplyingwiththetaxsystemwhileensuringthetimelycollectionofthetaxbythegovernment.
Duration
PGD-GSTCourseisofone-yeardurationandwillbeimpartedthroughtrainingprogrammeof120hours(fordetailsrefer2.4)coveringtheoreticaland practical aspects of GST.This course consists of five papers (forsyllabusrefer4)andthemediumofinstructionandexaminationwillbeEnglish.
120-Hours Training Programme
The 120 hoursTraining Programmeswill be conducted through classroomsandonlinemodeduring theacademicyear in twostreams, i.e.WeekdaysandWeekendstoaccommodatestudents,employedpersonsandthosewhopursueothercourses.
Stream I - Weekdays Training Programme (WDTP):WeekdaysTrainingProgrammewill be conducted only at GIFT Campus,Thiruvanantha- puram.During the duration of the Course, aminimum of 40 days (3hours/day)training programmes will be conducted during weekdays(MondaytoFriday).
Stream II - Weekend Training Programme [WKTP]: Weekend Training Programme will be conducted at two centres i.e., ThiruvananthapuramandErnakulam.DuringthedurationoftheCourse,2

a minimum of 20 days (6 hours/day) training programmes will be conductedduringweekends(Saturday&Sunday).
The above two streams of training will consist of theoretical andpractical sessions to equip the students to understand and complywithvariousprovisionsintheGSTActs,Rules&FormsandAccounting. A minimum attendance of 80 per cent is mandatory to complete the training programme. Training Certificate will be issued to students only on completion of 120 hours’ training programme.

Submission of Application FormStudents with required minimum qualification should submit their applicationandremittheprescribedfeesONLINEonly.ForonlineapplicationformfollowPGD-GSTlinkinGIFTwebsite,www.gift.res.inPayment of FeeAll fees should be paid through NEFT, RTGS, Debit/ Credit Cards or NETBankingonly.Nofeeswillbecollectedincash,bychequeorbydemanddraft.Refund of FeeFees once paid will not be refunded. However, if the application is rejected by the Institute, the fees remitted will be refunded after deductiingofadministrativechargesasdecidedbytheInstitute.Communication to StudentsAll communications to the students such as admission, dates & centres of training programmes and examinations will be communicated throughSMStotheirregisteredmobilenumberandemail.AllsuchinformationwillbeavailableinGIFTwebsitealso.
Registration ValidityRegistration is valid for three academic years from the date of joining the course within which period the candidate should complete thecourse. Original Certificate(s) for eligibility should be produced for verificationasandwhencalledfor.

Examination
ScheduleThe PGD-GST examination will be conducted during April/May every year. The examination centres are at Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam. However, in addition to regularexamination, supplementary examination will be held atThiruvananthapuram only during December/January for failed candidates.
EligibilityStudentspursuing thePGD-GSTcourseareeligible toappear for the examination once they have obtained the Training Certificate. For obtainingtheTrainingCertificate,thestudentshavetocompletetheirtrainingprogrammesbyfulfillingminimumattendancerequirements(fordetailsrefer2.4).OnlythosewhohaveobtainedTrainingCertificatesareeligibletoapply&appearfortheexamination.
ApplicationApplicationforexaminationmustbemadeintheprescribedformalongwith theexaminationfee.Theapplication,complete inevery respect,should be submitted online. The details of the examination will be published in GIFTwebsite andwill be informed to students throughtheir registered email and mobile number.
FeesThe examination fee is Rs. 900 (inclusive of all taxes) irrespective ofthenumberofpapersthecandidatewishestoappear for.Thedetailsregarding online application forms, payment procedures etc. will be informedtothestudentsthroughourwebsite,andbySMSandemail.
Qualifying MarksAcandidateshallbedeclaredtohavepassedthePGD-GSTexaminationonly if she/he obtains 50% marks in each paper.
ResultsExamination results will be published in GIFT website, Kerala Tax Reporter[KTR]andmajornewspapers.
RevaluationRevaluation of the examination papers is allowed. Application for Revaluationof answer sheets alongwith the required fees ofRs.125(inclusiveofalltaxes)perpapershouldbesubmittedonline.Thedetailsregardingonlineapplicationformsforrevaluation,paymentproceduresetc.willbeavailableinourwebsite.
