Composites

What’s a composite?

A "composite" is when two or more different materials are combined together to create a superior and unique material. A common

example of a composite is concrete. It consists of a binder (cement) and a reinforcement

(gravel). Adding another reinforcement (rebar) transforms concrete into a three-phase

composite.

Plastics composites

• The plastic substance is a synthetic macromolecular structure, and which is constituted by a large number of molecules of hydrocarbons, alcohols and other organic composites, ie the plastic is an organic substance given the amount of carbon among numerous molecules.

• The plastic may be formed, and is usually formed by the action of heat and pressure either natural and artificial heat and pressure.

Dental composites

• Dental composite resins are types of synthetic resins which are used in dentistry as restorative material or adhesives.

• A polymer is chemical compound where A polymer is chemical compound where molecules are bonded together in long molecules are bonded together in long repeating chains.repeating chains.

Origen & History

The firts uses of composites date back to the 1500s B.C. when early Egyptians and Mesopotamians settlers used a mixture of ud and straw to create strong and durable building.

Origen & History

Later, in 1200 AD, the Mongols invented the first composite bow. Used a combinations of wood, bone and “animal glue”, bows were pressed and wrapped with birch bark.

Uses

It is uses since S.XX. in the most varied fields: aeronáutica, manufactures of prostheses, astro and cosmonautica,

marine engineering, civil engineering, camping items, etc.

Uses in Odontology.Se utilizan en odontología para obturar dientes. A diferencia de la amalgama de plata, que necesita tener unas cavidades especiales (cavidades de Black) para su obturación, el composite se adhiere micromecánicamente a la superficie del diente sin depender de la cavidad.
